The story of The Hanger Project: www.kirbyallis...
The grandad story is beautiful, what a great memory!
wow
Daddy boy 💀
"You don't need a Patek to enjoy fine watchmaking. [...] This is my Patek Philippe because I love fine watchmaking."
Roadjull Precisely.
😂
@Oreus Because I can think of a lot of luxury items I would rather have than a "dumb" watch that does nothing more than tell me the time. I will save about $49,500 and get a watch that I can use to pay for my coffee, get my texts, receive calls, and see email alerts. :)
@@DerekBCook you mean the wrist mounted microphone brought to you by Apple, the fruit we're not supposed to eat?
@@TheBinklemNetwork whole lot of middle ground between a 50 grand watch and an Apple watch
That Chopard is A+. Not just the same old played out hype pieces. Horology with some uniqueness and great style. Love it.
When I was in primary school, I was inspired and impressed by my grade 5 teacher's gold watch on a brown strap, after so many failed attempts to catch the maker's name, I finally asked him and he pulled up his sleeve cuff and showed me.
So when I was in high school, with money saved from a summer job, I went to Kresge's and bought my first mechanical watch, a Timex!
Wonderful story about your grandfather. Watches previously owned by older family members are always my favourite.
Since I turned 50 I started not only dressing better but bought a slew of quality fountain pens, already had high end watches, but now I am into cigars. Mind you I normally don’t smoke but enjoy a great cigar with dear friends. Great video !
I have never been interested in luxury items or bespoke items, but I find myself watching a lot of videos on your channel. I think it is your passion for the subject matters that make them so entertaining. And the presentation is spot on every time.
Awesome! Thank you!
Your collection is very unique. I love how the majority of your watches were gifts...that makes them so special. And obviously that Patek is an amazing stunner best piece in the collection. The DJ is a nice one too. What I love about it is because it was a gift from your grandfather, it saved you any trouble deciding on which dial or index to go with and you ended up with something rarely seen...the arabics with rolexrolexrolex dial finish is neat!
Having friends and family rich enough to gift you watches worth tens of thousands of dollars is special indeed
Absolutely amazing collection. The Rolex and the Chopard are incredible, but my, the story behind the Bremont is on a whole other level. Regards.
I love the fact, that, although a small collection it is such an intimate and meaningful collection to you.
Class without the pretentious crassness of superficial value. The meaning behind the individual and unique stories are values in themselves. The Grandfather and sibling stories are wonderful.
The Bremont is not a watch that I would think you own, but it is quite a pleasant surprise to see you talk about its significance to you and your Brother. Overall, your watch collection is also one that is very similar to what I hope to own one day.
I also inherited two beautiful Omega watches from my father, I truly enjoy wearing them and they are my favorite watches by far that I will pass on to the next generation. They really last a lifetime!
I've been binge watching your videos. I really enjoy them. I also appreciate that you divulged that your Chopard was preowned. I thought that was exceptional honesty and makes it seem that anybody can achieve gentlemanly status and class. Keep up the great work!
All this elegance, and you sat that cup down without a coaster.
I was fascinated my my grandfather’s pocket watch as a child, it now sits on my dresser in its glass case. It brings me back to my childhood, with him every time I look at it.
Your grandfather experience really touched me, thank you for sharing it.
Kirby, thank you so much for making this video, I have been waiting for this one. I love that you have heirloom pieces and the Chopard is a gift from your beloved. That makes these watches worth more than any money in the world.
As a life long collector of vintage watches emotion and history really are the things that turn a watch from an object into a thing with life.
I am going to post this on the watch forum I run.
Thank you, ianmedium! Yes - I feel that we should all desire that the items we surround ourselves with be accompanied with a story that gives them unique meaning and significance.
What are some of your favorite watches! I nominate you to film a video of your watch collection! ;)
That watch that your bother sorted is really cool
That was very enjoyable. At first I didn’t like the look of the Bremont. After you told it’s story it was my favourite. Thank you for sharing.
That Chopard retrograde is my favorite of the bunch, but I love the personal stories behind the DJ and Bremont.
Very good sir.
A nice collection, without the fluff.
Props to you sir. Bravo!
So true, any watch you have memories made are the best watches, you have some beautiful watches, look after them and you can pass them on to your children.
I don't know how I came across this video. But, this dude has class.
Kirby I watch all your videos carefully and with great enthusiasm! As a pilot myself I have to say that I am a bit jealous in a good manner of course for the Bremont watch! Go Navy beat army!!😎 Keep up the good work!!
Beautiful collection. Thanks for sharing it with us, all of your watches, besides telling the time, tell a very interesting story about time well lived. Very nice.
Totally agree on your love of mechanical watches. I have several wrist, pocket, and automatic ones as well as mechanical clocks. They are just a absolute treasure to have and bring much enjoyment. My all time favorite pocket watch is my size 18 key wind from the 1880's. Fantastic watch that keeps excellent time for weeks on end. It's interesting how some nice little things can bring so much joy.
That's incredible! Post a picture on Instagram and tag @hangerproject. I'd love to see it!
This Video is shows a great example of how a watch collection should be. You are very fortunate to have a collection of watches where everery single one got a special meaning for you. I rather have a collection like this than just watches that "everybody" enjoys like a submariner.
You just got a new follower. Great video 👍
*Keep the Rolex. Get an Audemars Piguet **_Reverso._** Forget any Breitling **_after_** 1997. (Forget Frank Mueller, too.) If you travel, or love travelling, try Sinn or Fortis or some of the older pilot-style Breitlings.*
Good day Sir..
Your channel is Brilliant.
After 7 decades I no longer wear a time piece, however I remain passionate when it comes to heritage pieces.
Very awesome collection! My grandfather got me also in the watches. He gave me his Pontiac watch that he got as a gift from his father when he turned 18. So I got the watch when I got 18 and that moment I will never forget
TGVG That’s a great story! Incredible. Do you still wear this watch?
The Hanger Project I still wear it with proud almost every day!
“Fewer things of a higher quality”
Never a better way for one to live than by this sentiment, my watch collection is currently at eight timepieces but you could easily get by with two a Sports / chrono and a dress / diver watch.
Great video, Kirby! Just one mention: While your Rolex does not appear to be genuine (although maybe it had its dial refinished in the past by someone else rather than Rolex themselves), the story and meaning that it carries with it makes that fact insignificant. Beautiful collection!
You have a beautiful and well chosen collection. I have a small watch collection and like you I prefer to purchase from the pre-owned market. To avoid counterfeit and other problems I buy from dealers with an excellent reputation. Yes it is more expensive but I view the added expense as an insurance policy.
That pocket watch is absolutely gorgeous.
Great video, and great collection! My interest in style and clothing has also led me down the paths of fountain pens, watches, etc. I really appreciate that you have expanded the scope of your content to include these!
Charlie Howell Great! Have you recently acquired any fountain pens or watches?? Which ones? I always love seeing what other people enjoy.
Hey Kirby! I've acquired a few of each! I've been getting into Japanese pens lately and I have a few Platinums and Sailors, as well as the quintessential Lamy 2000. Down the road, a Pelikan M800/M1000 or a Montblanc 146/149 would be nice, but I'm in no hurry.
As for watches, I haven't had the funds to delve into the finer aspects of horology. However, my first automatic watch with a Swiss movement was a Hamilton Khaki. Then following my graduation from grad school, my family gave me a Stowa Antea. I currently have a few thousand I am planning on using to get a piece that is higher up on the horological ladder in terms of history and movement, but I'm still undecided.
Both of these are things that I really appreciate. Being new in my career as a professional counselor, I really appreciate the history and memories that these items are acquiring alongside my journey in life. From the watches keeping time across countless hours of therapy sessions, to the pens that document the emotional content. It can be kind of cheesy after a certain point, but the thought that these things are, and will be, constant throughout my personal and professional growth is pretty great.
Thanks for all of your videos, Kirby! You've got a fan in Austin! Nice Calatrava, too!
What a fine gentleman. I'm beginning to adopt your style.
Good story behind the Rolex. I noticed the Timex. Every watch person will always have a quartz beater watch. Quartz watches are not to be discounted by watch collectors. There will always be a need for them, whether they are Timex or G-Shock.
I liked the story about the first watch. Thx for sharing it. I enjoy mechanical watches, and I buy myself a watch when I achieve something to remember.
"For as little as a few thousand dollars"
I.e. achievable for everyone, or not ?!
let me just chip a little off of one of my gold nuggets.
I laughed at that part too. 🤣🤣🤣 he’s got more on that table than I make in a year!
Not everyone is poor.
Locutus D'Borg and not everyone has thousands to waste on a watch.
Beautiful watch collection I think my favorite is the first because of the meaning behind it with your grandfather and the music is excellent
Your Chopard is incredible.
a Refreshing channel
I love how each watch has a story. I would love to learn about your belt collection too!
Bren Ram That’s a secret or you want to destroy a marriage 😂
Poldus Eri lmfao
A perfect collection! What is your daily wear/beater? How do you decide which watch to wear to a special occasion?
On a daily basis, I either wear my DateJust or my Chopard.
On a daily basis, I either wear my DateJust or my Chopard.
Thanks Kirby for information about how to dress on well as a man and wear watches also making me feel like real gentleman
perfect collection nothing more needed
Lovely collection Kirby, thanks for sharing
Nice collection Kirby all price aside my favourite is the chopard and the date just your wife and grandfather have good taste I’m 31 years old and only own a seiko day date that is very similar to yours two tone jubilee but mine comes with the gold dial I’m hunting the other 2 variants and i also recently purchased a seiko presage cocktail I’m hoping to one day own a fine Swiss watch but it’s unlikely 😢 awesome collection I hope you can keep us updated on what timepieces you’re searching for to add to your collection I think a gmt would have a spot in your lineup.
The Datejust gets handed from generation to generation so frequently.
What a generous grandfather!
That and Pateks...
Next Video: *Kirby Allison’s credit card number*
I learned a bit about shoes and things from Kirby, but he is kind of full of himself. Who has a Patek, AND a Rolex. Come on man little pretentious.
@Eric Day ever hear of a collector?
Probably the most unique nickname for a grandparent I have ever heard.
Haha. I know. I don't think anyone in the family really knows how the nickname came about. But it was very fitting - he was one-of-a-kind. An incredible man and someone whom I was incredibly privileged to call my grandfather.
Nice collection! Thanks for sharing your experiences with these watches, it makes them all the more special.
Love the stories! Watches are interesting but the stories give them life.
Hi Kirby, is it time for a watch collection update?
I love your channel. Thank you for all the content.
Wow what an amazing and very versatile collection. Every piece together make sense to this collection and every piece is has a special value for you great video!
There are so many great DateJust stories like that one.
That watch has its own wonderful magic.
The Calatrava is a magnificent formal piece.
Well done!
Thank you! Any watches you own have special stories?
Kirby Allison,
Holy molasses! I just saw your reply from seven months ago for the first time!
Sorry, Kirby. I just discovered that I have an inbox on UA-cam.
To answer your question: no, no great stories for any of my watches. Oh, well.
What a beautiful collection Kirby my fiancé is gifting me a Tudor BB58 blue bezel on our wedding day I’m so excited to get my first luxury watch and would like to add a formal black banded watch as a second part of a hopefully growing collection
Never cared about watches until I saw the Navitimer 01 on commercial banner. Now I'm in love, I'm currently saving up to it, got about 70% left but I just need to have it because it makes me happy everytime I see it.
That's awesome! Let us know when you get it!
No story on the Timex?
I'm a watch guy and I wear a SMP but I only ever had a Casio bought for me - I've passed this on to my son and I hope one day he can dig it up out of the yard and pass it onto his son.
I enjoyed the video. And thanks to you, Mr. Allison, I learned a new way to wear my pocket watch, using the jacket pocket and lapel loop.
Vinilo 1969 That’s great! What kind of pocket watch do you own? I love this one. And the chain is exceptional.
I have an pocket watch from Tiffany, and it has an art deco dial too. Love to look at it but I've only worn it out once.
A very tastefull collection that covers all bases. Hopefully I’ll get there someday!
johnnyboy13131 Thank you! I’m sure you will! It’s surprisingly easy to find some incredible deals on beautiful mechanical watches if you search vintage styles from the 1990’s from makers outside the mainstream (aka. not Rolex or Patek).
The Hanger Project: Kirby, do you have suggestions about where and how to buy nice watches? Since I’m no expert, I’m hesitant to go after watches on ebay and end up with a fake or a watch that’s been damaged. Cheers! -Jonathan
Love the story of your grandfather.
This was the first video I ever watch from you and it was great! I love your background and your watch collection is probably the one of all I ever saw, which I liked the most!
Thank you! Do you own any watches?
The Hanger Project No, I am only 16 years old and can not afford a nice one, but a Cartier tank, a Patek Calatrava and a Rolex Day-Date are my absolut dream watches, which I would love to own one day.
Did you talk about the Timex? Or does that deserve a video on its own?
Another awesome video produced by a fellow Texan. WTG Kirby. Your video's are so informative and well done. Keep up the good work.
Excellent collection! I love that every watch has it's own story. Maybe add a nice (vintage) dive watch next?
I was thinking the same thing. Dive watch or Chronograph
Thank you so much the stories were amazing
Wonderful collection. Thanks for sharing.
When are you going to be on Hodinkee? :D
Gret collection I am a WIS, avid collector over 40 Pieces (lot of high end, plus 12 quartz gshocks and few timex etc) , i love mechanicals and automatics. A great book called A Man and his watch might interest you with stories on some famous people, and famous watches. Exactly like yours with your GrandPa. Every gentleman needs a fine watch, and it does not have to be a Patek. Seiko and Orient make mechanical watches for (on sale black Friday is best) under 500$ (under 300 on sale etc.) . A dress watch for occasions (should be thin under 13 mm thick, little smaller 42 mm to 34 MM) , sports watch (diver or Chronograph), tool watch (i love gshock for this as regardless of water resistance i am keepng my mechanicals out of the pool and sea, no issues taking g shocks in ;-) . Springbars (buy a cheap springbar tool from ebay or amazon) are easy to change the straps to change a watches appearance. Good video!!
Richard Teevan Great comment! I just finished reading A Grand Complication: The Race to Build the World's Most Legendary Watch. Fantastic book! I really hope to add more pieces, especially some more complicated Pateks. Do you have a favorite watch in your collection?
You’re clearly loaded. $100k worth shoes, $30k watches, $20k suits, London gentleman club membership. Way to go
Love the dial on that Rolex. I imagined you'd have a deco dial Reverso.
That Chopard with moon phase is awesome! Quick release bands are really great.
MrJamescord The Chopard is without a doubt my absolute favorite watch. And the quick-release bands allow me to give this watch several different looks. I highly recommend them.
I would love to see you do a piece on how to wear pocket watches. Chain types, placement and etiquette.
I stumbled onto your content, where at first blush you're not pretentious or fake. I saw the shoe video too. Quality should be a constant standard in all things.
Topgun instructor brother...that is super duper cool.
That is an awesome collection! I really love the one that is like your brother's.
Great histories with each one as well.
My "timepiece" is a Casio Walmart special and it still gives good time for $35
Mine is a 3 year old Apple Watch I got on Black Friday I hardly ever take it off.
I have Seiko 5, it's automatic and cost 130€.
Nice video. Daily pocketwatch-wearer here. A 1950s Ball railroad chronometer.
Thank you for sharing your watch collection
I am with you Kirby! I own a Jeager-LeCoultr Tourbillon Regulator, a Ulysess-Nardin gold Maxi Diver blue dial and a Bucheron Steel Big Dare in an art Deco Green Dial. Got my eye on a Omega Constellation Blue Dial Ceramic dial. Of course we all strive to own a PP Annual Calendar. Someday hopefully.
Nice video. I enjoeg to listening youe whatch stories. Thanks!
Beautiful collection indeed. Other watches outside of ur collection that I luv are the Glashutte Original Senator Excellence Perpetual Calendar in a white dial and black crocodile strap with blued hands and the H. Moser & Cie Venturer small seconds Ref. No. 2327-0200, wth the white dial, roman numbers and blued hands on a black crocodile strap. These watches are as classy as the watches in ur collection. Luv the Patek Calatrava and the Bremont F-18 watch. Somehow a Datejust wth Roman numbers never attracts me. A Datejust wth applied hour markers is just perfect for me.
Glashutte makes some beautiful watches! I especially like their oversized date.
Hey Kirby! Your Datejust does not have Roman numbers and i completely got that wrong. I suppose i wasn't attentive enough as the video started. Nice two-tone datejust. My apologies.
Fantastic collection Kirby
Ah yes my favorite WATCHES. Well said far more then telling time they are absolutely amazing wonders of man in my opinion such amazing devices
I liked without even watching the video!☺
Rezwan Sadat That makes sense
There’s only one model missing in your watch collection.... Jaeger LeCoultre REVERSO....Nice video! Great Channel!
Will you ever travel to Switzerland to talk to some watchmakers?
I've had a few nice watches, it's awesome. especially to collect, and or match to fine clothing/outfits and different events ..really like your videos.
Gorgeous collection! I'd love to hear more about the situations you wear each watch? Which one is your daily wear? Which one do you save only for special occasions? etc.
Jainan Sankalia Thanks! The Rolex and Chopard are my daily wears. The Patek is a special occasion, evening watch. And the Bremont is just something I wear occasionally on the weekend.
I'm in love with that calatrava
Same
Kirby... you make me want to make more money and become more elegant! (If possible) thank you!
I feel like if Kirby started signing he’d sound like dean martin or Frank Sinatra - this man is an old souls. Love all your vids Kirby keep up the great work 😎
Steven Brown So was Sinatra... 🤫
Steven Brown Did you know that we Americans come in all colors, faiths, and demographics? It’s not kind to judge someone on an assumption about their financial status. I got that all the time as the daughter of immigrants. Nope, we had money. Sorry not sorry. Now my daily handbag is a Louis Vuitton. 💋
Meaningful stories that will last an age. I could see a Reverso or Cartier on a milestone
Cool collection. The Bremont is interesting. Something vintage with a 1940s look might be a nice addition. I am taking the quantity route with my watches.
Was there a Timex Easy-reader?
you forgot tell us about the Timex
You have such a good taste on watches kirby
