The FODMAP diet can be so restrictive. Someone suffering from issues might wonder what in the world can I make with what I can eat. You've shown some inventive dishes. It's so great how you did your research into this diet.
Try being a type 1 diabetic! It really sucks with the no sugar, no carbs diet. It makes it super difficult to eat, especially if you aren't rich. Eating the way I HAVE to, is super DEPRESSING! I hate the fact that grapes, apples and pineapple are foods my endocrinologist request I don't eat. They are my favorite food!
@@Zendoodler That would be a great one to address on a video. Especially for those who don't have the variety of food markets available to them where they live. My sister is on a very restrictive diet and struggles to find variety in foods, It must be extremely difficult for you in a social setting as well.
I honestly did not react well to seeing something related to amaranth that wasn't tested by monash being put into more than one dish in fairly large amounts. Like just an 'oh no' moment.
@@CatStockings yeah, there’s so much in this episode that’s a DO NOT DO for people who really need a lower FODMAP diet. All the soy sauce - no. Just no. The curry powder is a no for the nightshades. The fermented foods. Sigh.
Love this series! But as a studied dietitian I have to point out that (as june mentioned in the beginning) the low-FODMAP diet is a therapeutic elimination diet an should only be done supervised by a trained dietitian or practionioner for different reasons: 1. what foods are high or low FODMAP can depend on which source of information your leaning on, the preparation technique etc.; so to avoid unnecessary restriction seek help from a professional. 2. navigating symptoms especially for people with IBS can often times be unpredictable and frustrating and a professional can guide you through it! 3. the diet is temporary, the endgoal is always to get back to a diet with as few restrictions as possible. Which FODMAPs trigger you and in what amount is highly dependant on the individual. 4. If you experience stool inconsistency or unusual bloating or gas, please speak to your doctor first as there can be other reasons, eg. food intolerances, that need to be treated with a different dietary approach. Lots of love to you, June.
i would add thats its a good idea to test for celiac before going low fodmap, i know a lot of people that suspected celiac after going low fodmap and havent been able to get a conclusive diagnoses
Definitely a good idea to get guidance from someone who knows what they're doing. Also good advice to check with your doctor about bloating, but also do some of your own homework. I had serious bloating and pain, and my doctor had me get an ultrasound, didn't see anything (although the gas actually obstructed the view a lot) and just gave me prescription strength antacids. I did some online detective work and found out too much sugar in the diet can cause something called candida, where basically sugars are fermenting in your gut. I cut WAY back on sugar and 90 percent of the problem went away. But I also had a weird sharp pain at a point between my ribs near my stomach (which I told my regular doctor) and noticed a bad taste in my mouth every morning. I also woke up a lot at night and drank water because my throat felt sore. When I decided to see a naturopathic doctor she said, "Well, you have a hiatal hernia." Did my homework again and yeah, there was the source of the pain, the sore throat, the weird tastes in my mouth. She wants me to have a CT Scan to make sure, but meanwhile, I've made a number of "lifestyle" changes (including eating small meals and sleeping propped up) and am doing even better. So yes, I agree. Talk to your doctor. Work with a professional if you make big dietary changes. And don't be afraid to do your homework and share what you find with your doctor/nutritionist.
@@hannahkayee831 Not really. IBS is a diagnosis of elimination as there is no test to diagnose IBS it's basically a diagnosis given when all other conditions that present similar conditions can be ruled out. Also, the causes of IBS are not known so it would be pretty difficult to get medication that would be able to treat everything. There is medication that can treat some of the symptoms but for some people it can be really debilitating and medication may not work at all. The low FODMAP diet is the most researched and effective treatment for IBS out there.
Fred is looking way more healthy and happy from when he first came to you. From one cat mom to another great job he looks like a happy healthy part of the family :)
The fact that she engages him by letting him sit in chairs and giving him things to sniff is so disgustingly sweet it almost makes me cry every single time
In all my budget eats dreams I never imagined you’d do an episode so perfectly catered to my niche diet!! I have Crohn’s disease and during a flare this is exactly how I eat. Thank you 💜
I love the way June experiences food. You can almost see the gears turning as she breaks down the taste and texture and decides if she likes it and how much
My sister has the same issue, if you use the recipes with soy sauce double check you're getting a gluten free soy sauce. It can make a big difference for some people, it does for my sister's IBS and it doesn't affect the flavor.
I have an allium (garlic, onions, shallots, lilies, etc.) allergy and it was so exciting to watch a Budget Eats that was entire made up of flavor explorations I could eat. While the Low FODMAP diet is a temporary elimination diet, having a lot of these flavor explorations exist and be presented to the world without any of the potential problem ingredients is amazing because it provides a sense of what can be done. I could add in wheat or potatoes and riff off some of these meals without having to try and figure out how to compensate for a heavy reliance on garlic and onion products to make things actually taste good. I am really so happy to see that this video exists.
If you like Indian flavours and vegetarian food, look for "Jain style recipes" or "Bengali niramish recipes" - both avoid onion (& shallots & other onion cousins) and garlic due to religious reasons, so most recipes would be allium-free!
I noticed you used a lot of herbs and spices that are beneficial to digestion and inflammation, your recipes are thoughtful, and I really appreciate that.
Would be very interesting to see a video where you could only shop at a convenience store. Many people live in food deserts and can only shop in dollar or convenience stores which often contain cheap, but poor quality processed foods. I know that there are meal kits that can be ordered, but many people likely cannot afford this service, and or are out of the delivery radius.
I struggle with a lot of anxiety and every time a budget eats videos is posted it brings so much joy into my life. I love watching your videos because they’re so calming and soothing idk why! Maybe it’s your voice or the cooking.
You know, of course, you can use garlic oil. Just let the garlic sit in oil to infuse the oil ... make sure to strain thoroughly, insuring that no garlic solids make it into the oil. I've been doing Low FODMAP on & off for about 10 years and it was such a relief to be able to get some garlic flavor in my food in the elimination phase! I don't seem to be inordinately affected by garlic, onion and tomato (within reason), so I'm lucky even though I have pretty severe IBS, although when I began using the diet, I avoided them. Now I eat them in limited amounts. What REALLY sets me off is carbonated beverages, huge amounts of raw vegetables and, seriously, who knows what? One day a food will be fine, the next, I have a very bad day if I eat it. Thanks for addressing the FODMAP issue.
I have bad seasonal allergies which increases inflammation, and I found out that the swelling is also internal. So when I have bad hay fever, I am likely to have stomach issues.
@sherry ann, I feel like you see me. I am the same with the carbonation. High Fructose Corn Syrup and mushrooms are some of my biggest triggers. I hope you've found some relief from your IBS!
In france, we traditionally use buckwheat flour to make salty thin crepes, then once you cooked all of the crepes, add ham, cheese and an egg on top, fold and fry in a pan :) sooo delish Also, with the Huazontle you can make “tortitas” out of them, a Mexican traditional recipe 🙂 ty for this new episode
@@shitlista4283 1 egg, 250g buckwheat flour, 1 teaspoon of Salt and 700ml of water, 2 tbsp of choice oil. Add flour in a bowl, add the egg, slowly add the water while mixing everything to combine. Clean the pan between each crepes and put a thin layer of oil so it doesn’t burn. If crepes breaks, add 1 egg to your mix, and if you’re allowed to eat gluten, you will have better results by adding 50g of wheat flour 😊

I just love the way June's brain works! Watching her take on a new challenge is always so satisfying and encouraging, using cornbread to make a sandwich was true genius!!
Hi June, love you and this series so so much. Your soba situation reminded me of a Handcrafted (Bon Appetit) vid I watched awhile ago while depressed in bed. It was mesmerizing. Soba masters train for years and years to perfect the noodle. He says several times “if it breaks you can’t fix it” which at the time I received as a metaphor for life. Highly recommend watching it.
I say this with all good intentions, but I literally put budget eats on the fall asleep!! Her voice and content is so soothing, it helps me relax and pass out. I LIVE for June content!
I love stir fry pineapple. There's a Khmer dish that consist of pork ribs and pineapple, pork or beef pineapple. That oyster sauce does it! Always enjoy you experimenting with food, June!
I love how relatable you are. I’m always checking what I have, what’s about to go bad, & how I can transform it into something delicious for my family of 7. Thanks for teaching us how to cook with what we have & make it delicious.
Loved this episode so much! Didn't expect June to ever make a video following a diet that is so similar to how I eat when my chronic illnesses are flaring. I'd love to see a video on a low-histamine diet! There are so many restrictions being low-histamine, and I often run out of inspiration and ideas on what to cook T-T I would LOVE to see June's creativity beat this kind of challenge!
God, June, how did you get that I needed this? I literally just did the test on food intolerance and have to make major restrictions when it comes to food! This was so helpful! I suffer from gluten and yeast, milk, eggs and ect. intolerance, as well as gastritis for years! This was so refreshing! Love your episodes!
Thank you for posting this!! My doctor wanted me to try low FODMAP and I find it to be an extra challenge that I'm a vegetarian. I find the lists of what you can eat to be a little confusing, so thank you for giving us more details - AND introducing us to that very interesting amaranth/quinoa green. :)
I did it on my own but would not recommend that to anybody! It’s such hard work honestly, and requires hours of research. So would recommend you get a dietician to help you :)
Doubly so if she can do it vegetarian! It's so, so hard to do vegetarian kosher-for-Passover without kitnyot that I pretty much have to do Sephardi-style.
@@juliegolick I survive on veggies, fruit, cheese, and potatoes during Passover as a vegetarian Ashkenazi Jew! Oh, and matzoh. All the matzoh! (I also make a pretty awesome matzoh ball soup with mirepoix and KP pareve chicken bouillon)
June, you should do an episode where you only make food that would be safe for Fred to try with you. I think that would be really fun and cute! You could even have him rate them based on reaction
My daughter and I was watching your episode with the prawn chips. So we finally got some from Amazon and they were incredible. And who knew MSG was really good. Now we have a permanent salt shaker with half MSG and half Himalayan salt. We are putting that stuff on everything thanks
My family grandparents are Swiss and Italian and we use buckwheat all the time! It doesn’t hold well just by itself. They have a version of buckwheat noodles called pizzoccheri (20% wheat flour 80% buckwheat (ish)!!
June your buckwheat noodles were not a fail. I actually had 100% buckwheat noodles before from a great brand but they also smelled of burnt tire lol (perfect description) and they disintegrated too. Really need that wheat gluten to keep them together.
I’ve had a lot of buckwheat noodles (the ones I’ve had from Italy are usually pretty great) and only a few of them go weird- they can be tricky though as the cooking instructions are almost always a bit off. The brand I buy can vary in cooking time from 5min to 12 min (box says 8min).
June is so creative. I'd like to see a no budget experimental show from her. For instance, taking something like hairy amaranth or even popular Asian ingredients and showcasing how to use them in both traditional and creative ways.
The buckwheat… wasn’t it expired? I wondered if that’s why it tasted like burnt tire?? Yes, the expiration was back in 2018! 😂 I am always impressed at her bravery. I eat expired food but maybe not years expired. 😂 June is a champ!
I love your videos June! They’re so accessible to the average consumer, it’s amazing! If you’re looking for more diets to try on a budget, you could maybe try a low-sodium diet. My dad has a heart condition, and learning how to make meals that he can eat while staying on a budget and not spending all of my free time in the kitchen is a bit tricky. Since I know you absolutely love a challenge, maybe doing something similar on your channel would be fun! 😊 Keep up the great work! You’re so inspiring!
I have long Covid and my specialist recommended FODMAP for GI issues but, my long Covid has put my off work so I’m under budget constraints as well. Someone from Twitter told me about this video which has been been very helpful. June! You’re just so flippin’ delightful! Thanks for all the inspiration to go into this penny-wise FODMAP challenge with!
This is my first day on low fodmap diet and first day to grocery store for low fodmap. I was very overwhelmed and came home to learn more first. I am so thankful to have found your youtube video. I immediately subscribed to your channel.
I went 44 years having never heard of asafetida and then just yesterday I learned of it from Tasting History with Max Miller and now today you've used it. I think this is a sign I need to try it. 👍
Be prepared! I just started using it and it smells really strong (put it in a well-sealed container) and you only need a tiny bit in most dishes. I use it to get a little more oniony flavor since I'm not eating onions or garlic.
June’s inventiveness is unmatched!! I just learned about the FODMAP diet through this video and once again, I was blown away by the different combinations of tasty meals she made. Phenomenal job June, as per the usual! 🥳
I just got off low-FODMAP for the second time for my IBS and I love to see meals with foods I can actually eat so I can remind myself that I can still have good meals without onion, garlic, gluten, etc. Thank you for trying this out !! Maybe you could try sugar-free meals later :0
Seriously! If I had watched June cooking when I was a student....cooking for my family, catering for kiddie palates, not being scared of feeding crowds.....I love you June!
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING SHIT I'VE SEEN ON UA-cam EVER. I found out I had IBS type C about a year and a half ago and that garlic/onions were actually ruining my life and physical health - as a person who literally never shuts up about food and cooking when i'm not literally in the act of doing it - this was and continues to be an everyday battle and so disappointing. I can honestly say garlic was one of my favorite things to cook and consume and its been a difficult ride. Eating out and having to go home instead of out with my partner or friends because I didnt realize the hummus or stringbeans at dim sum had garlic in it and now im suffering from intense stomach cramping. Its tested my relationships and its slowly pulled me out of the kitchen and my number one hobby of cooking. I adore you June and I'm so excited to watch this over my lunch break. THANK YOU and I love you.
As soomeone who has been struggling with stomach-issue diagnoses (yes, plural) since July and have followed the FODMAP diet and still can not eat a lot of these things, I feel so seen with this video! I've been eating the same few things every day and can't wait to make some of these recipes!

I learn so much just watching you use foods I’ve never heard of and even parts of various foods that most people throw out. Thank you for keeping us knowledgeable about cooking and more ways to spread a dollar!
Would love a homemade freezer meal prep video. Like making a whole week of meals in one day that are frozen and then defrosted/cooked on the day of consumption.
I've always smile due to the contradiction between the low cost/ June's frugalness by using long expired foods vs Aaron's name brand T-shirt game. Contradiction score 8.9
No matter what you cook, what's the challenge, what's the ingredient, I love the way you cook. This gives me more ideas on how to be experimental and creative in cooking. You are awesome 👌

I'd love to see June make kosher for Passover meals (without kitnyot).
Maybe she can solve the mystery of the rolls that are served in Israel. I've never been able to figure out how to make them.
Doubly so if she can do it vegetarian! It's so, so hard to do vegetarian kosher-for-Passover without kitnyot that I pretty much have to do Sephardi-style.
Are peanuts kitnyot? Since they’re a legume?
@@jamietate3526 All of the Orthodox groups that I know of say peanuts are kitniyot.
This is by far the best cooking channel.
I can’t say how much I love this series. More, more!
Words can't describe how excited I was to see a new budget eats video 😂😂😂
June how is your grandmother doing ? Really enjoyed seeing you bring her food and the reviews she gave. :)
Haha yessss pumpkin spice salt still kicking around! I love it!
i love it so much to have it kinda like a running gag
I absolutely love watching June cook 😍 she is just so creative and it always makes me want to get into the kitchen and cook something ☺️
You leveled up my childhood go to sandwich: peanut butter and lettuce on toast. I really like the idea of the vinegary carrots.
@@FiorLabhair we’re they 100% buckwheat flour noodles or did they have some wheat in them?
@@chrissymozylisky3142 100% Buckwheat (I can’t eat gluten so definitely no wheat 🌾 lol)
Yes the oils in the flour go rancid after some time.
I’m always on the lookout for low fodmap videos - love that June always comes through with videos for all the diets!
Keep up the great work! You’re so inspiring!
I'm on a modified low fodmap diet and I love to see this! I'm so grateful for this diet, it totally changed my quality of life
What makes it modified?
Ugh I just love how she explains the taste n textures 🤌🏼😩
That fact that this queen did this for those suffering 😭😍. We love you June!
You amaze me every time.
Love her!! 💝

Hi June, Thanks for wearing a Swarthmore College tee shirt on Day 2!!! That's my home town. Love your FODMAP recipes
Halal food, perfect for Ramadan that is starting next weekend :)
Ahhhh!!! I can't wait to watch this. I repeat watch Chef June so much with Budget Eats!
I was recently put onto a low FODMAP diet! This couldn't have come at a better time! Thank you for always being inclusive with budget eats!
You are so good at describing how food tastes, I can almost taste it too!
I was so down the whole day but got so excited and happy when I see you've uploaded!! Yeeeeeaaaay!!! Miss yaaah, June!!
Just tried celery leaves in chicken noodle soup and I have a new fave to doctor canned soup.
This video is a heavens send to me, I've been struggling so much and I really needed this video and support.
I would love to see a peanut free & tree nut free budget eats. I notice June uses a lot of peanuts and peanut butter.
LOve this show and his!
Be prepared! I just started using it and it smells really strong (put it in a well-sealed container) and you only need a tiny bit in most dishes. I use it to get a little more oniony flavor since I'm not eating onions or garlic.
@@Glenchx thanks for the tip! 😀
Im from Australia it's 2:30am and I still couldn't resist watching this before sleeping 🤣
same!
Have a good night
as someone who has gut issues, i really appreciate you shedding some light on low fodmap!!
June, stellar outfit on day one! Looking so cute! Also, iceburg lettuce definitely just tastes like water
Not sure why she kept describing it as creamy though. Never heard anyone describe iceberg as creamy before
OH MY GOD OH MY GOD THIS IS THE MOST EXCITING SHIT I'VE SEEN ON UA-cam EVER.
I'd like to see June try the autoimmune protocol diet.
Definitely.. I was AIP before going FODMAP for eliminating/reintroducing foods & it was quite challenging at times!!!
Up
As soomeone who has been struggling with stomach-issue diagnoses (yes, plural) since July and have followed the FODMAP diet and still can not eat a lot of these things, I feel so seen with this video! I've been eating the same few things every day and can't wait to make some of these recipes!
Gracias 🙏 I love “Budget eats”, I learn so much, you are really changing my way of cooking and looking at food ❣️❣️❣️
I could watch June content everyday. Whenever a new video comes out, I try to savour it but that never works out and I binge it.
I love the themes and catering to different diets but I’m worried you’ll run out of new themes. Please don’t stop making this series!!
I guess all I’m saying is I hope repeating of themes is on the table!
Thank you June for doing a low FodMap!! This is awesome!! 🙌🥳💕
Once again the only person that can make me watch a 1+ hour video and still leave me wanting more…
Admittedly I wasn’t a a fan of Aaron when I first saw this series but he’s grown on me. I’m missing his comments XD
Where is he?
I was thinking that very thing.
@@daenerystargaryen2689 he was in the last episode, but she said he’s not home this episode, so I’m guessing traveling?
they broke up
@@hc507 he was in this episode once. He tried the buckwheat muffin looking not popover things, he put a huge amount of butter on his first one and a bit less butter and maple syrup on his second. He was in the video.
I loved this episode, I usually love every episode because it teaches everyone to reduce food waste by being creative in the kitchen, but this episode blew my mind. I had no idea what the concept was and thought you were going to struggle a lot more, but every dish was beautiful and vibrant(tasty and flavorful too). I don't know how you manage to make every dish so lovely and I strive to get creative with unconventional and limited ingredients often as well. Thank you for being so fun and inspiring to watch, I adore you, June💛🥺
I’m allergic to soy in all it’s forms as well as corn. Any chance you could do a budget eats with no soy? It’s in all the things, even some things you wouldn’t expect.
Coco aminos is a "soy free soy sauce" so you could also try that as a replacement?
@@wanderingfinds2268 yup. That’s my go to. Just add some salt and I think it tastes just like it….I have no reference lol
I love your outfit on day one, June! And I always love your videos and creativity! 🥰 I'd love to see a video with time restrictions- only meals under 30 minutes (not counting your day one prep) .
June is back! Hey gurl! 😍✨
absolutely love it when june does her take on any mexican dish 💓
One hour episode, I'll gladly watch June
Oh my gosh- THANK YOU SO MUCH! I didn’t really expect to see this kind of representation on Delish. This is how I have to cook for myself.
Love this! So hard to find some good low FODMAP recipes 🥰 I was recently diagnosed with crohns and was told to go on this diet when I have flare ups. It's been so hard because it feels like there is nothing I can actually eat. Thank you!! 😊
I’m not a cook but love everything you do June! I would totally try all the amazing things you cook!
Such crazy talent you've got June!! Can see your love for food shine through. Honest and insanely creative. You are an inspiration.
I've always smile due to the contradiction between the low cost/ June's frugalness by using long expired foods vs Aaron's name brand T-shirt game. Contradiction score 8.9
You're right! That is funny! I never thought of that before. I wonder if June teases Aaron about his name brand addiction?
Maybe he buys them at thrift stores?
No matter what you cook, what's the challenge, what's the ingredient, I love the way you cook. This gives me more ideas on how to be experimental and creative in cooking. You are awesome 👌
Does junes voice lull anyone else? I love her vids and her voice relaxes me so hard
I love the way you touch and eat your food. Love you June xx
Day one of my quarantine with very little symptoms and you have come to save me
Get well soon!
Thank you thank you thank you for taking on Low FODMAP!! I’ve been on it for 9 years now and never thought I’d adapt to this complete overhaul of my diet. It’s not easy to live in a high FODMAP world, but videos like this give great ideas and just helps one feel heard
