Bro, very cool what you did with this PS3, I myself have one of the same Super Slim model and I really enjoy playing on it, and congratulations on the sensational and incredible work you did with it, it left it practically brand new !!!
Well done by restoring this console to its former glory. The superslim is the cheapest one built but also the most compact one. I still have my first 80 gig ps3 and added 2 backwardscompatible to my collection and also a slimmodel. Backups for backups for backups in some way xD
@@Elkombinauta i have 2 psones, i playstation, 2 or 3 ps2s (1fat, 2slim) a ps2-tv combination, 4 ps3s ( 2 backwards, my first ps3, one slim), 2 ps4 slim and 2 ps5 discedition. On top of that 2 psvr 2nd gen devices, my psp and a psvita. Thats solely my "playstationcollection".
A common overheating issue with the PS3 SS is the wifi/bluetooth module stops working, which is what happened in mine. However there are not many videos showing how to do this! Was this an issue you had with this console? Fantastic video, loved watching the care you take with it, thank you!
Hey man that's just mind blasting the amount of care and patience you put into this. Found your vid cause I was just playing my 7 year old super slim yesterday night and heard a 'pop' sound inside the machine which switched off immediately. Won't start back up. Repair costs for sth even that old in my area will be exaggerated and I'd rather not buy another one. Think it might be a fuse or thermal paste...very likely overheat and power issue You make it look easy but I probly wouldn't be able to do what you did. Think it's over at that stage :/
Thank you. It is really not that difficult. You have to encourage yourself to be able to learn. There is a lot of information on the internet on how to do these jobs. In your case, I would try to open the console, clean it well and look for any burned component. If it was just a heating problem, it should turn on and then turn off. let me know how it goes... 🙃
@@Elkombinauta I'll give it a shot even if I have zero experience in this. Stupid question maybe but how do I even know a part is burnt? It just looks like it took a flame or..? I don't have any tools besides some screwdrivers for this. Is there anything you'd recommend I get? Don't want to buy stuff I'd only use once and possibly botch that repair anyway 😶
@@axeldrane Well, most of the time you can tell that it is burned just by looking at it (they literally burn). but if not, then you will need a component tester to check.
@@jremeee1599 nothing, i gave up. Its too technical for me and I have neither the tools, know how or patience to do it - happy with the ps4 and will eventually get a ps5 when the pro model comes out.
Great work and cool finish effect! I have only one little note... You should remove metal sheet from CPU. The consol will get overheating, because is there the old thermal paste.
I made the thermal paste change in this video. Some users are recommending me to use less paste since I added a lot. Now that I saw the video again I think they are right, I exaggerated with the amount of thermal paste. 😅
@@Elkombinauta You don't understand me... The CPU have two layers of thermal paste: 1-over of IHS CPU: 2-under IHS CPU. If you want full restoration and more less temperature on CPU... You need take of IHS. You have many videos how to do that. Be carefull if you will try... it's not that simple. Im know what im saying XD
I use Poorboys Pro polish 2, when the plastics are badly scratched. and some finer paste for finishing. They are products used to polish cars, easy to obtain.
Sir, I have a ps3 fat case device. It works on green light. It doesn't display any images. It turns itself off without going into safe mode. I wonder what could be the problem.
Well, this one had the same symptoms. The problem was caused by the accumulation of dirt and overheating. because of the heat some capacitors unsoldered. you would have to disassemble it, clean it well and start checking the different electronic components.
How long it takes for the plastic parts to get completely dry? I restored few consoles myself ps1 and ps2 I am not a pro but always have problems with small spaces like the place where screws are I see some water there always and use some needles for it to take the water out.
Friend, everything you have done is very good BUT. You have put too much thermal paste and that is why when you test the console the fan sounds so much at the end of the video because so much thermal paste causes overheating. And I know that many people will say that the more the better but in this case with the thermal paste it cannot be said that the more the better, you have to put a little (as big as an m&m)
Bro you did an amazing job excellent... A quick question about my ps3 I was having a little black circle ever time I turn my ps3 then it get worse and worse after a month I was playing Rdr with my friend then everything went green and red after that my ps3 restart then my screen turned black the ps working I can hear the sound of the icon I tried to restart again and again but no signal of hope I search about it I found may be need to cleaning or it's the (gbu) I didn't know I go to nearest repair shop he told me I will fix it but it's a chance 30% will work again and if it's fixed it will not be like before or get a new motherboard and motherboard is soo rare in my country and it's so expensive so if you have any advice to say to me I will be really appreciated thanks for reading (sorry for the bad grammar or english)
Okay. I don't think it's a dirt problem since the sound keeps going but the video doesn't (as I understood). It's probably the video processor. and in that case it is a difficult job to do. however a professional should be able to get it running like new...
I don't know what lost CPU you're talking about, it's all there. I use it daily and it works quite well. I changed the HDD for an SSD and it looked very good.
Where can i find parts for the super slim? I need new ribbon cables for the power button and the disc drive, along with the pastic trim. I bought one for $20 because the guy claimed it would stop working after a while but it was just dirty and needed new thermals, I just need to test the drive but i messed up the cables putting it back together 😓
Hello. that happens when the laser does not have enough power. On some occasions performing a laser cleaning is fixed. You can easily do this using isopropyl alcohol and cotton swabs, or perhaps with paper napkins.
When the PS3 super slim came out, the only thing that mattered was making it smaller and cheaper. This is why Sony also decided to remove the retro compatibility. A shame...
unfotunately it is not possible. the manufacturers of these consoles do not like their hardware being modified by hobbyists. so they do their best to avoid it.
I miss my PS3, nice work giving it new life!
Thanks man. I'm glad you enjoy it. what happened to your PS3?
i found a broken ps3 super slim in an alley and fixed it. thanks!!

I always leave it overnight. The ideal is to use air to remove the droplets from those places.

when the console does not turn off correctly when it is turned on again it makes those noises to warn that something went wrong...
