    I am glad you are giving us your "honest" dislikes. Dishonest dislikes would be confusing.

    When I owned my 996, I wanted a classic air cooled 993 badly but the more I looked at the 993, the more modern it became so I instead bought a 1982 911 SC and so happy I did.

      I love the SCs. Quite raw and they love to rev. ☺️👍

    I hesitate to be picky Robert....but you may want to think about 'upgrading' your mike! Very difficult to hear what you're saying (can't lipread either). Might be an idea to park up and do your piece to camera. Anyhow, managed to get the gist of what you were saying. I agree with you about the standard-fit steering wheel looking a bit 'un-sporty'. My car's previous owner replaced it with a 996/Boxster wheel which looks lot better (also has the coloured enamel Porsche crest in the middle). Still, slightly dodgy sound notwithstanding, good informative vid as usual. BTW, me, the missus and little dog (Westie/Yorkie cross) are off to Sturminster Newton in (hopefully) sunny Dorset on Saturday for a week in a cottage (2 pubs within 200 yards - outrageous) and it'll be nice to give the 993 a proper run after the winter hibernation. Cheers from a miserable, damp and chilly Otford, Kent.

      Thanks Neil. I did upgrade my mic however I agree it could be a better sound. I may need to try another one. Thanks for your feedback and comments Neil 🙂. From a momentarily sunny Glasgow

    Nice. I've a 1996 993 C2 iris blue metallic, 66,000 miles, 6-speed manny tranny, varioram, LSD. No CEL, no oil leaks. Multi-show full-concours winner. I do my own maintenance. I'm never selling it. Yes, I'm damn careful where I take her, and when.

    I've had them in stock form and heavily modified... from years of dealing with these cars I can only say - in stock from they are very dated. As a bare minimum, you need to upgrade suspension to this century. Nice set of coilovers, stainless brake lines, drop links / sway bars, better tire and more aggressive alignment. Next is shifter and pedals - stock pedal placement is not ideal. After doing those, your 993 will be transformed....

      Great points thanks. Yes I should have mentioned that my suspension and tire replacement wasn't standard. Agree on some of your upgrades but to me the pedal placement is good as it is

    Hi there, was really difficult to hear a lot of what was said but sort of get the gist.
    I must say suspension refresh is a must, engine mount, gearbox mount and heat shields go a long way. Also not forgetting the alarm system that can play or the door hing bracket that play up on some. Then the steering wheel honking by itself on some. Personally with a car this age a full refresh makes a big deal and I’d urge people keen o one to get one that’s had all these done. A standard car at this age will not be sharp moreso a garage queen with very low miles will need work. Get a freshly freshened up car and you will be happy for many miles. ☺️

    I own a 996 and I was crazy about 964 before. But then I saw one side-by-side with the 993 and the 964 rear is just so underwhelming. Narrow and sloped. 964 front and profile look good but the rear was just... uhh... disappointing compared to 993. I'd say overall 993 is the best looking 911 ever made. The front is a good mixture of old and new... and the rear is simply the best looking of them all. 996 4S is actually quite a bit like 993 and I love it too. 993 2S probably my dream car but those prices are just unbearable. Cheers, great video and lovely car.
    PS: You COULD have showed the car exterior properly too. Not everyone know how these look like. And take the video from sitting position rather than standing position. I made a car video once and realized how stupid it looks when a 6'3 guy makes a video from his eyeview. LOL.

      Thanks for your comments. All noted. Agree on the looks of the 993. I like the 964 torpedo front wings but to me the 993 is prettier

      The tail on the air-cooled 911s was designed like that for the very good reason that viewed from quarter front, the ugly long overhang disappears. The car looks like a pitbull. 996 styling went bland and from behind the car looks Far East. Dynamically the 996 is of course far superior and a perfect mix of sporty and civilized.

      @@shadeburst You must be a 964 owner. I didn't mean it's a bad looking car. Not even close. Looks great. But the rear really looked disappointing next to a fat ass 993. It's just soooo tiny and narrow. Different story with the 964 Turbo. That looks amazing. I can't afford either 964 or 993 so nevermind me. Cheers.

    • @shadeburst
      @shadeburst Місяць тому +1

      @@detonator2112 I apologize, I confused the last air-cooled 911, the 993, with the water-cooled 996. As I said the fat-ass cars genuinely have a generic Far East look that definitely does not say Porsche. But each to his taste.

    • @detonator2112
      @detonator2112 Місяць тому +2

      @@shadeburst As a 996 owner I'm the first one to admit it doesn't look nearly as good as 964 and 993. They really went to wrong direction with the looks. But it doesn't bother me. It still drives like an analog, small Porsche and you can buy 5 of them for the price of one air cooled. It's great value for money for sure and I have enjoyed my car for 5 years now. I don't care what "Porsche purists" say about it... just enjoying it every week. Cheers.
