I'm a Giants fan and I was listening to the radio broadcast. Dave Fleming was calling the game. What he described as Profar was walking off and then collapsed was utterly chilling. You could hear it in Fleming's voice how scary and worrisome the moment was. It brought a thud to my gut out of the seriousness of the situation. I hope Profar will be just fine.

Gotta correct you with a common misconception: you can't train for a "strong chin". Fighters can train their neck or clench their jaws as hard as they can to absorb the blow but it will only provide minimal negation from being KO'd. It's all about how hard the other fighter hits or where the hit landed that determines whether someone goes to sleep of not. Moreover, fighters have sustains more head trauma than baseball players which arguably makes them even more susceptible to being knocked out.

I was knocked unconscious after getting a knee to my head diving to 1st base. While laying face down in the dirt I began convulsing. I was unconscious for 2-3 minutes. When I came to I was surrounded by many people. I tried to talk but could only grunt. My jaw was dislocated. Stuck wide open. My mouth and throat were full of dirt. The Dr with his hands putty jaw back in place. I had concussion. But otherwise my scans were normal. 2 weeks later I started football practice and never felt any I'll affects from the episode. Except when I would yawn my jaw would get stuck open. That was 1995. If that happened today I'm pretty sure there wouldn't be a football season.

Not really sure if this would have helped or not. but I have to wonder if either player called the other off by declaring "i got it." In baseball that is the signal to back off and let your team handle the play. Most of the time a collision can be avoided if you here those words you get out of the way and no one gets hurt. Perhaps that could have happened in this case and Profar doesn't get hurt, Who' knows. The only time, that I am aware of, where a player got hurt when is when Joe DiMaggio called Mickey Mantle of of Willie Mays' Fly Ball in the 1951 World Series and Mantle caught his spike in a storm drain; which blew out his knee and affected the rest of his career. Outside of that I have never seen a player get hurt when called off.
Again I am not sure this would have happened in this case cause I am not sure either player called it.
