- I seem to have a problem with knives. I just can't have enough of them!! Seems I am always looking for a new blade. I recently acquired a Becker - KaBar BK16 fixed-blade knife. While this is an excellent knife, it does have a few drawbacks. The first is the handle scale material. Stock these are just hard plastic scales with 3 bolts, that attach them to the knife. The stock handle fills out my hand very well, but will get slippery when wet. I replaced these scales with a set of TKC black G10 with red liners. These slightly changed the knife grip, with a slightly thicker center area, that feels even better in my hand. The G10 scales also have a textured surface to them, increasing my grip on the handle even further. A great upgrade for sure!!
The scale installation was pretty straightforward. Getting rid of the 3 bolt system, to a much cleaner looking, countersunk screw, installation. I like how the red liners look against the black steel of the BK16.
I also rounded up a custom-made Kydex sheath from AZWelke. This was to replace the not-so-great stock nylon & canvas sheath that shipped with the knife. The fire steel loop, would not fit my fire starter, so I will eventually use the cord to lash the steel and striker to the sheath.
I temporarily placed the fire steel on a leather dangler sheath, that shipped with this custom Damascus knife that was already in my collection. Maybe one day I will take you all on a knife-by-knife tour of my collection. Comment below, if that is something you might like to see.
Well, that's it for now ... well until I get another knife hahaha.
Very cool blade! Yes I want to see your collection! I like knives and swords, hahaha. have a few myself.
Thank you, Dawn. That is very cool !!
Nicely done, great choices all around. TKC and AZWelke make some fine products indeed, and how can you not love the BK16? Fantastic build brother.
Thank you, brother.
Everyone added G10s and those same sheaths, so might as well be like everyone again ans strip the coating.
Attaboy! Touché!
