As a caps fan I just don’t understand it at all. Leonsis is starting to get on thin ice especially after he threatened to move to team to VA just to only keep them in DC and make more money. CapFriendly purchase is just making his pockets bigger and in turn trolling the league. On top of that, I loved using CapFriendly so in some sense he screwed over caps fans themselves. At the end of the day tho it doesn’t really impact the team on the ice so whatever I guess…
Vegas is scummy, but they're not doing anything wrong, per se. Sort of like save scumming in an RPG. Washington, on the other hand? What a stupid move. Screws over a ton of people to get a little extra money. Went from a team that I respected to my bottom five.
@@frederickglass1583the irony is,Vegas didn't get sports teams for so long, precisely because, being known for gambling. Now,we have betting companies bombarding us with ads when we watch games
It's wild to me that a league notorious for a lack of transparency and a lack of engagement with new fans thinks even less transparency is the way to go. @@jman660212 Yeah, but Bettman will either look the other way,or have his back, since the Caps are one of his favorites because of all the revenue and casual fans they've brought to the league

Ever since I've had an affinity for it and have used it countless times. Thanks for reminding me of that dude, he was a trip.
I don't know if teams use this a whole lot. I can't imagine they rely on a 3rd part site that requires no membership or anything to help make their salary cap decisions. Maybe use it as a quick glance but all this stuff can be done with excel formulas. I would be most teams already have an in house guy doing all this stuff. It does stuck for use fans not being able to use it though and shows how crappy the Caps management is if they need to buy some third party site to make sure they are "cap friendly", the cap has been around a lot longer than this site has.
I'd love to know the thought process behind the purchase. It'd be one thing if they kept it up and operational and bought it out for, you know, business things, but since they're not doing that the only logical conclusion is that the purchase was motivated by a desire to be those people🙃
I'd imagine that behind the salary cap stuff on the front end, the team might have also been collecting and categorising plenty of other metrics and statistics, and may have been looking for a buyer for a while.
I'm happy for the CapFriendly guys who got a well deserved payday for their work, but it does suck for fans as a whole. I know there are other similar tools, but there is a reason that Capfriendly is the default for everyone, including NHL front offices.
This is the first I'm hearing it, and I first thought "Maybe they're just buying the URL, not the website..." Yeah no, they're buying it all. As a Caps fan, I offer my sincerest apologies for this stupidity. If any professional org should have bought this, it should have been the NHL, not an individual team.
The NHL has always hated that inside information was accessible to the public. I'm sure they are delighted CapFriendly will go dark. But no matter, demand is there and someone else will build another version. I'm sure NHL GMs and other insiders will no longer cooperate with CapFriendly so it's usefulness will be short term at best. Good for the CapFriendly guys to cash out...and probably be back with a new site in a few years.
as I said somewhere else: only way Caps can be more hated now is to hire Babcock so he can bench Ovi for the rest of his career 1 point shy of the record
