    1:00 When you said you grew up as someone who felt like an outsider, didn't belong and didn't fit in... yeah man. I feel the EXACT SAME WAY, and feel grateful for UA-cam and digital media, helping me come out of my shell a little more. I haven't even started everything I want to do yet, but I'm doing a ton of research on all of it, learning the gear more, etc. I just wanted to say thanks for such a heartfelt moment in your video... just discovering your channel a few hours ago, you're becoming one of my favorite videography/tech people, ever. You have a great energy... enthusiastic and kind (I think I bring that energy too, I'm just awkward as hell and the pandemic hasn't helped much, ha). Look forward to digging through the rest of your channel and learning a lot. If you ever might want to collaborate (musically) or do some co-hosted tech/nerd video, I'm all about it. Thanks, Tom! :)

      I really appreciate all the kind comments and I'm so glad that you're enjoying the channel. UA-cam has been absolutely crazy for my own personal growth, and as of March, it's now my full time job. I _never_ would have thought something like that would've been possible when I first started. You never know where things could go 🤷🏻‍♂️

    Thanks for addressing captions and accessibility in this video. Creators often rely on the auto generated captions or craptions, discounting the value these have for many people.

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  2 роки тому +1

      Makes a huge difference! Plus since I talk a lot about specific gear and terms, the auto captions can be…less than accurate 😉

    I'm a notebook guy myself and while my daughter loves paper, she also absolutely loves her iPad and the notability app. She has used it through her undergrad and now in her masters and she would be a great sales person for the app because she knows it inside and out and swears by it...just in case you do want a digital option. :)

      @@tombuck Yes, I call it Procreate for Architects (but thinking of changing it to "Digital Drawing for Architects" so I can include Morpholio Trace and maybe even Shapr-3D and grow the audience a bit) and I was equally surprised to see you using Procreate for your green screen titles, etc!? Never woulda thought of that. I'm here watching a ton of your content today because I've been asked to teach digital drawing for the UCLA Masters of Interior Design extension program, and the fact that you're teaching was a happy discovery. I want to get some more engaging production going on from this point forward with at least 3 diff camera angles: 1) overhead w/ iPhone 11 (what I use now), 2) talking head shot w/ f1.4 or 2.4 lens (whatever's necessary to produce awesome out of focus effect you do so well) and also 3) a slider shot for close ups of the pencil while drawing, which could be amazing for close ups (see: 30x40 workshop videos). I listen to the Video Creators podcast (Tim Schmoyer) and you are firing on all cylinders according to their recommendations, plus I'm just really enjoying your relaxed style. Congratulations. I was fortunate to come across your channel, love it, especially your videos. Your videos are very informative. I’ve always had an interest in music, sound engineering, photography and video creation, but far far from professionally perfect. It’s just a hobby for me. Being a gadget accessory freak which also feeds my interest, that,s another reason your videos appeal to me. I have created some videos in years past but your channel has inspired me to step it up a notch and hopefully bring it to the next level. Vlogging, podcast, anything to keep it fun and interesting at least to me. Even though at times it keeps me from fully enjoying my time with friends while I’m busy capturing the moment with all my cameras surrounding my friends at events. But it is a way to archive good times with friends, which I’m sure they appreciate seeing later even though they were subjects of my attempt to make stars of them at that time. I have already made some purchases as a result of your very informative video reviews, so kudos to you and your hard work. FYI Your choice of your studio colors on your thumbnails are very appealing, they’re very calm and soothing. I feel they invite people to click on them. Either way, it works for me here I am. Keep going and growing, I’ll be watching for more videos, I appreciate them very much. Franklin

    Wonderful video! Have you made a video about the cost-saving benefits of using the EOS RP vs the EOS R? I'd just be using it for UA-cam videos. Also, do you save the video DIRECTLY do your external hard drive from your camera? Or does it go from your EOS to your computer?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 роки тому

      I haven't used the RP, but it seems terrific, especially for the price. The only thing keeping me from getting one is that it takes a different battery than my R and 6D. I like everything to use the same battery system when possible.
      And I save the files directly to a project-specific folder on either my desktop or my external hard drive (I have a specific work flow video coming soon).

    WOW! Congrats! Excellent and, very helpful, informative, and inspiring. It's a mini course in starting a video podcast. Not unlike your video on using the Rodcaster Pro, I will be referring to this episode on a regular basis as I am creating my cooking videos. Have to invest in better equipment a little at a time. My Rodcaster Pro, a good microphone, and headset have been my first investment. Have to budget for a video camera, and better lighting though. However, it's not going to keep me from getting started.
    Thanks and continued success.

    14:10 I found that just about any kind of light will work. You can use anything from really good photographic lights to household light bulbs. You can get very warm light to pretty cool (blueish) Daylight depending on the light you use. I did mostly still photography before I started doing video, so I have strobe lighting for stills. the modeling lights work for video.

    • @tombuck

No bad jokes in this video, however? What happened? I was a high school maths teacher a lifetime ago. Do you kids know that you are a youtuber?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  3 роки тому

      Hey Scott! It was around the time of this video that I realized my dumb jokes SHOULD be in my videos (I mean, they're one of the main ways I built relationships with students haha).
      I stopped teaching last school year, but some of my students knew about my channel. I never hid it, but I also never actively promoted it- it was kind of just a thing that was out there. 😬

    Wow, you are gona have to hire staff and quit your day job if this continues! Nice! I think you have probably touched on it, but what are a few first things I could change/improve to make my videos better? You probably have a stat that shows your subscription growth, that probably looks cool?

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 роки тому +1

      Hey Jim! The stats are definitely fun to see. I had one video go semi-viral last year, and that created a spike that kind of skewed the charts, but now things are more even and heading upwards!
      For your videos, they’re clear and have good audio- those are really the two biggest production points to hit. I love how you clearly explain concepts and make everything understandable, even to someone like me. My biggest suggestion would be to make really eye catching thumbnails if you have the time. But it seems like you’re on the move! Gotta get ready for a 1000 special pretty soon! 😬

      Tom, thanks for the critique! That is my biggest limitation, I am shooting with my iPhone and a simple earbud mic. I prefer to get it in a single take so I don’t have any editing to do post. Really impressed how fast your channel is growing! Your videos are a pleasure to watch!

    Hey man, this is probably the 3rd time I have came back to watch this video. I love seeing how others are creating their content. Do you have another video where you explain more about why you use 3840x1920 resolution for your videos? I’m doing screen record tutorials. I used to just grab a 1920x1080 window of my screen for UA-cam videos. Why 2:1 instead of 16:9? Is it for better screen utilization on mobile? Thanks! 🙂

    • @tombuck
      @tombuck  4 роки тому +1

      I have exactly the video you’re looking for ua-cam.com/video/DLNd5BwUKqo/v-deo.html
      Basically, it looks better on mobile now that most phones use 2:1, and I personally like the way it forces you to compose shots. I’ve been doing it for almost a year now and still like it. It’s a small thing that people might not notice outright, but I think it makes a difference.
