- Glazing is a wood finishing technique in which a layer of stain color is applied over a stained or painted surface. At this year's National Hardware Show, we stopped at the ZAR Wood Stains booth and learned how to update the look of a stained or painted cabinet doors or piece of furniture by applying a glaze finish. You can apply glazing with regular wood stain. You don't need a special glazing product. In this video we show you two techniques. First, how to apply glaze to a cabinet door or molding. Second, how to apply glaze to a flat surface, such as flooring.

Interesting! Didn't know you could use stain over poly
I have a question How long does it take to dry the glazy to apply the gloss coat.
I have a large oak table. My question would be. If you do sections at a time. Will you see where you continue with the next section or will it blend? I want to deepen the oak. It has gotten very yellow/orange. want to make it deeper and richer.

I have light oak cabinets with a warmish tone in my kitchen. What kind of glaze would I have to apply to give them a grey diftwood looking finish with the grain still visible?
3 years later: you’d want to whitewash them. Look up “whitewash stain” or “pickling stain”
Im a bit confused. All videos say glazing but I see them using a stane so. Do I use a glaze or a stain?

I am about to finish a red oak slab table and was wondering if you can glaze over Tung oil?
Did you use a sealant after the first wood stain then apply another wood stain on top of the sealant? Wouldn't the 2nd wood stain just peel off? We are sanding some wood down and would like to apply this technique but still a little unsure...thanks
Wow man...❤
Doesn’t it feel sticky forever if it’s on a finished piece or did he lightly sand it or something

Since my furniture piece is already finished with several coats of poly, how do I raise the grain to accept the glaze? I have honey oak and want to add white glaze.
So paint. Apply polycrylic. Glaze. Thank you
As an expert you should know that glazing is a material, a vehical that will carry any color that is compatable with it. Its not a stain, period. Very disapointed, I thought I was going to learn something useful about glazing too..

I will never understand why people like gray, black and white for cabinets. I guess it is good because it would be boring if we were all alike.

Use gloves next time
You guys used the words “glaze” and “stain” interchangeably. You made an already complicated subject even more confusing. Frustrating.
