It's amazing to me that non-Turkish speakers can still find the dialogue in Ceylan's movies interesting and well-written, as you lose so much in the translations.
We live in a world where artists like Ceylan still making cinema. Once upon a time in Anatolia and Winter Sleep are in my top 5 all time movies ever with The Godfather and Schindler's list.
Along with the great Hong Sangsoo, N.B. Ceylan is by far the best filmmaker alive today... his Magnum Opus is "The Wild Pear Tree" (I haven't seen "About Dry Grasses yet"!).
Thank you for the review. Really looking forward to this one. May I kindly suggest you to check the pronunciation of 'Ceylan' again. The first part of his lastname is pronounced as 'Jay'. It is kind of like 'Jaylahn' 🙏🏽 It might look like a small detail but it's kinda sad to hear so many elaborate critics, who pronounce his name totally wrong.
I've seen all of Ceylan's work, and this is right up there with his two most accomplished films. The young actress Ece Bagci actually sat next to me at my Zone of Interest screening, so I got to possibly be the first member of the public to ever recognize her from a movie and let her know how great she was in it. Neat stuff!

Thanks putting out the work to share all these movie reviews. I would love to be present in Cannes one day but IDK how that works. Can everyone attend the cerimony, or is it just for people that belong to the press or that are in some way invited? And if this is the case can you elaborate a little bit about your personal experience on how that happened and what we can do to have that same privilege? Thanks once again!
Merve Dizdar acaba de ganar el Premio a Mejor Actriz en Cannes 2023 por esta película. Felicitaciones a esta increíble actriz turca, primera en llevar el premio a su país 💖💖💖💖
there is a silent cruelty in his films which everybody shares and participates. the films drip you in by inches then you bfore the film and after the film is a different personality. it looks like we are social creatures but in dark deep we are ruthless, selfish ones.
honestly cannot wait for this film, all of his last 3 are 9 or 10 out of 10s for me. it sounds as though this film is most similar to his breakout film Uzak which i would highly recommend if you haven’t seen yet
Watched it last night at TIFF with my Turkish friends. Loved it. That girl did a great Magnificent job. Hats off to that character she portrayed ❤️. Loved the final conversation between teacher and that student. Nuri is a magician. He never disappoints. Thank you Nuri sir ❤🇹🇷🙏🏻
many turkish commentors commented about this is his worst in a while, i got cold feet and didn't go to cinema. but now you gain my curiosity, unfortunately it's off the saloons now

Don't tell me that. There is no way I'll get the time to learn a new langage now D:
this is the most well written film of 2023 for me and i think anybody can tell.
Ceylan is a modern Andrei Tarkowski and Bergman
No. I’d say he’s more like his contemporaries like Farhadi or Weerasethakul.
He yarram
I understand and see the connection with Tarkovsky, but personally, I find Ceylan's films much more engaging.
Yes. More of Bergman than tarkovsky

No nure bilja seylaun

Appreciate your reviews out of Cannes so much. Yet again, a thoroughly detailed and engaging one which piques interest about the film.
Ceylan is the best filmmaker of last 25 years for me
This man is a beast when it comes to breaking down movies and releasing these reviews.

I loved loved Uzak (Distant) from him. Your description of the film reminds me of Uzak. Exciting!
Pronunciation correction. BilGe, G pronounced like G in word Ground. C in Ceylan pronounces like J in word Jerk.
So basically, weeds?
Watch The Wild Peer Tree.
Terrific review!

The bit right before he took the virility pill.
ceylan argues three things basically in his film. the conditin of women, religion and Anatolia.
How much does it cost to watch cannes movies directly?
