Secondly when the African ancestors went to war, they would paint their faces to fight as well. My logic is that the whites got wind of this, and began to make fun of Blacks in minstrel shows. Third, when the organization was founded, they could not afford to purchase masks, which is a requirement to parade in Orleans Parish. So if they wanted to parade, they had to do what they had to do. Today it’s a tradition and most of all it pays homage to their brave founders.
