- We have already covered the V6 & V10 TDIs in plenty of our vlog and even touched on the V12 TDIs recently, but we have never really done much on the 4.2 V8 TDI, which is a shame really, its a beast of a motor!
Whilst having this customer vehicle at our facilities we fabricated a new DPF Delete Kit compatible with the Audi Q7 and VW Touareg 4.2 TDI engines as well as EGR and Swirl Flap Deletes!

These things really shine when pulling a big weight. Our ‘09 q7 has 225,000ks and runs like a dream, not a single fault
Fitted one of these engines in my bench grinder. Works ok. Use it for rounding the corners off cathedrals, could do with a toon though as I've just won a contract to deburr Anglesey.

I have the A8 4.2 TDi pulling standard 350 BHP, 800Nm - goes like a train. Cant wait to get it it tuned when I have some money ;-)
I Love mine had it for 7 years, It came with a sorry (DMS) tune so similar numbers.
Price mine was £82k when new ouch!
They will win many traffic light GP's, on a run at motorway speeds they are just as efficient as the v6 but towing is where they are excellent. Mine has spent most of its life towing a 2 ton caravan and you basically didnt notice it on the back. The only issue I have had is one of the dpf pressure sensors failled. A common fault on these and a cheap part but half the car has to come appart to change.
The actual performance is alot closer in the real world to a V12 because the latter ones of these have the 8 speed box.
Yes the brakes are poor and expensive oem work the best.

Had my Touareg v8 tdi mapped by DMS back in 2014. Never felt that good to drive despite a reputed 400+ BHP. Took it to Darkside and had it remapped again with the DPFs removed. It went from 408bhp on their dyno to 398bhp. You might imagine that I was slightly disappointed, but torque increased from 870Nm to 950Nm. The losses were only above 3500rpm. The EGTs dropped significantly from 960c to about 880c. It is so much smoother and better to drive. I can't rate these lads work highly enough.
Picking up a V8 TDI Q7 tomorrow, I can’t wait. Keen to see what 800nm is like
The Cayenne 958 S Diesel V8 book figures are 385bhp & 850nm. Would be interesting to see how that behaves with a tune.

@@Gez492 audi does not do just a remap to provide more power , it might have a better turbo or rods or injectors or whatever
@@mikemayers9353 Sorry Mike you are wrong, Any turbo charged petrol or diesel Audi or not can be mapped and the darkside boys are amongst the best in the business. Stage 1 requires no hardware certainly not rods or bigger turbo. If you are planning on taking a RS3 to 1000 plus hp then yes I agree its going involve major upgrades but most poeople are happy with a decent hike in power and torque but keeping it reliable but with better drivability, just a map will easily give you a genuine performance gain.
@@Gez492 i meant AUDI AS A OEM , I own a forged 2.0 and audi would have changed more than me for just 50 hp i did not mean what you change for 300hp , i mean what would audi change to get a extra 50-100 hp , which is A LOT . you did not understand what i said Gerald .

Always said an a5 with the 4.2tdi in it would be extraordinary.
Love my q7 4.2tdi and in middle of DPF delete and thinking next a remap and egr/swirl flap delete.

Nope. Cat delete would probably different. Look around for a friendly tester.
Yes they should fail. It also carries a fine if caught. Recently they’ve cracked down on garages who remove them and it’s easy to spot if it’s been removed or hollowed out.

I ve got An 64 plate A4 2.0 TDI black edition 150 hp non quattro i fancy doing an stage one remap but i m afraid that is gonna affect the DPF and i don't want to take it off as is low mileage only 32k do you think are there any risks for the DPF?

We tune most cars that still keep the DPF! If it's going to go it will anyway, driving style is the biggest killer.

You say this engine needs to go in something smaller and lighter. Does that mean your going to bolt the 4.2 V8 to an A6 Avant???

Some friends have told me that it's so rare to find a 2.0 tdi with such low mileage
We get them in with 100s of miles of 100s of thousands, if abused they are all capable of being crap!

Hi there, what is EGT on pre catalyst?
I have DPF and EGR off, straight exhaust, but cata is still there, and im pushing 370Hp and 950NM. TTH 450 BTR turbos.
But my pre catalyst temp is 850 celsius on full load.. im just trying to get it to 450HP.. bit that temperature is worying me.. any tips?

Im considering removing catalytic converter.. but dont like idea.. will be to loud and stink to much..
@@vladimirmlinar Dont think catalyst itself is the problem. But the pipe right after the turbo is small as hell, much smaller than turbo exhaust. Same goes for piping after TVAs, too small. I´m burning 110mg at 4000RPM and have no problems with EGTs, but proper before turbo not after it, thats not so important. Barely gets to 700°C on a long pull.

They will stop them 'floating' at higher exhaust pressures

What is the best option for a standard 2014 A7 3.0 tdi from your experience? I’ve been looking at various options including a gearbox map as the changes leave a lot to be desired but somewhat lost with it all! Cheers 🙂👍🏻

@@DarksideDevelopments I was looking at Q7 4.2 along with the 5.0 V10 Touareg but only just realised they do the later Touareg with the 4.2 in it as well with 8 speed box, is the 4.2 better to tune? Seriously considering the 4.2 Touareg now as the next car. 100% will be coming to you for some work!

We came tune them but hate them!
They're rubbish worst one of the worst VAG group engines.
The 3.0 V6 TDI Q7's are stupid fast with just a remap, my uncle had one and that could easily gap many things.

In reality this makes much more sense, engine is lighter, can make almost the same power. Not to talk about when something breaks. V8 have better sound.

I like to do fast driving sometimes, I guess remapping is only for those who don't "race" and want power for everyday use otherwise its going to break
The engine is an N4720C with only 50k miles on it or 80000km
We are doing a few of them at the moment, 240hp on one, aiming for 300hp!

I thought if the dpf is removed then you cannot do an mot on the car.
If the dpf is hidden by a cover then the covers can't be removed for an mot. Don't quote me on that though...

Not really that impressive for a 4.2 V8.
The B58 3.0 straight 6 in my M140i is running at a very safe 411bhp/576nm after a simple remap, with many running well over 600bhp, with a few simple mods.

No, we are not comparing apples so it's a pointless comment really. 550d is over 400hp with a tune, 3.0 engine
@@DarksideDevelopments My comment was simply that it is a HUGE V8 engine, which even after tuning (and this is not in any way a slur on your tuning company, you do remarkable things with oil burners, I respect your company), is still not actually that powerful when compared to other smaller, and even stock power, engines.

@@DjNikGnashers This is a low speed engine your M140i is revving beyond 6000 rpm. Look how much torque this engine is producing from near enough idle to 4000rpm.
