I don't think my friend Tony will mind me sharing this info. He turned me on to this beautiful song at his Mom's funeral just a few days ago. It was one of her favorite songs. She was 92 wonderful years young! Prayers and hugs to Tony and may his wonderful Mother rest in the arms of the angels.
When Elizabeth Taylor stared in this film she was 33 years old and back then she looked beautiful. We just cant find these actors anymore. And more are leaving us as they aged. Not many living legends and this songs fits perfectly for this film!
@ꨄ ThatsALittleBassist I'm talking about adult themed scripts with interesting well written dialogue, not robots, or everything being another explosion. Add good acting and that's what the old movies had.
Vic Damone, Tony Bennett, Andy Williams, Frank Sinatra, Englebert Humperdink and Perry Como. All did awesome renditions of this epic, wonderful love song. All their versions are top shelf, and each a little different than the others, in their own style. But for me, Vic Damone's version best captures the love and heartache from this outstanding movie, "The Sandpiper".
Such an incredible beauty...Liz...and young handsome Richard...haunting song...always one of my favorites. When I watch this ot takes my breath. We don't have anything near this today. Beautiful beyond words
I love this song its so beautifully done with such grace. Dick & Liz truly had such passion for life. Although, they like us they had human frailties...but Dick wrote Liz everyday and she loved him so much she took the letters to her grave. They truly had undying love, but when you love someone you really never forget them you just hide them away in your heart. Beautiful movie as well greatest actors on film.
I have only heard this one version, but I cannot even comprehend trying to listen to another version. This version is perfect and cannot be improved upon!!!
Great song - where are the song writers these days who can write such melodies and such lyrics - instead we have mostly trash that will be forgotten almost as soon as it's played.
Everyone of the songs of 1965 that were nominated for the academy award were Terrific, The Shadow of Your Smile won though. There will never be music quite like this ever again!
Thank you Vic, for all those beautiful songs you gave us, during those golden years. Of the so many fine singers that I admired, on my list, you were number one - and Vikki Carr on the other side.!
I've been singing this all morning and so happy to hear this! Miss you Mom and Dad ! (Edit) found myself listening again and seeing this comment I'd long forgotten that I made. Still brings me joy and as my memories sway to this gentle song, I find it more beautiful than I remembered.
I really love this video. I'll have to watch the movie someday. I know that the song, "The Shadow of Your Smile" won an Oscar. Elizabeth was at the acme of her beauty when she made this movie.
I absolutely love Liz Taylor's character...so uninhibited, so passionate, so real and honest...and Vic Damone captures the all-consuming emotion. Pouring yourself into a passionate romance is always the right thing to do. Carpe Diem!
OHMYGOSH I JUST BALLED LIKE A BABY WHEN I HEAR THIS AN SEE CLIP FROM THE MOVIE..😢 WATCHING THESE TOO TOGETHER PRICELESS ONE OF MY FAVORITE SONGS❤😢AN MOVIE OF THEM!! ..MISS THE MOVIESTARS OF YESTERDAYS THE GREAT STARS! ,*LOVE THAT SONG I CAN'T HELP IT I USE TO SING IT WITH MY DAD AN SISTER 🙏🎇🎇❤❤❤😢
Why are the beautiful classic songs so short while the ones that are annoying, barely can understand the words, gravely voices seems to go on and on, never ending.
Funny how grief hits you. I think I am just getting over losing someone and then I listen to this. I am told it will take time. I am wondering if it is really just starting. Beautiful song...wonderful voice.
Not many will remember an actor named Philip Ober but he was in several movies one was north by northwest he's was married to Vivian Vance. I was his anf Jane's banker in pacific Palisades california they lived in Puerto Vallarta and neighbors of the Burtons. They invited me down in 1971 and had the pleasure of staying for a week and had the thrill of a lifetime riding with Elizabeth in her dune buggy down to a place called the Oceano for the best shrimp cocktail. Watched the sandpiper today and remembered that great day in 71
Not many cast members can pull off such magnetic chemistry as these 2. My goodness Liz and Richard. I just pulled out my old DVD and watched it again after all these years💞💓
Damone gives a command performance with this song. I well remember the movie and song. Burton and Taylor were superb. I was stationed in California at the time and I would often visit Big Sur and the wine country. Thanks for the posting!
Her story is my story. Sad but true. And now, i too, am an island. I dont want to be...chit sometimes happens, so u must play the hand u are dealt. I created my downfall and i will cry but not FOLD. THANK YOU FOR LISTENING. PATTI
Such a haunting, beautiful and yet poignant song...the movie is fantastic with all those great exterior takes at Big Sur, California... thanks for the editing job...it couldn't have been better!
Thank you for posting this beautiful montage of both The Sandpiper and it's award winning theme song; The Shadow of Your Smile. The movie was memorable not for the acting of its principal stars, Richard Burton and Elizabeth Taylor but for capturing their incredible screen presence with the backdrop of Big Sur Califonia. Your posting reminds those of us who grew up during the bygone golden age of Hollywood how fortunate we were in having experinced such a period. With the advances and ubiquity of digital technology, it is a pleasure to remember and briefly experince a analog world.
Yes, this was a movie I think my Mom and Dad saw at the drive in as Dad heard there were scenes on Big Sur. He got to see the Sur before being shipped back across the country and a boat to serve in WWII. He said it is the most breathtaking place he ever saw. Now watching and listening to this I can think of myparents and their memory.
Bedjik, great job on this outstanding music video of this iconic movie and song. Makes me a little wistful - Elizabeth Taylor looks a lot like and reminds me of my ex - wife, whom I still love and miss. Don't ask - yes, I'm an idiot. We'll just leave it at that....
I saw this film at a downtown theatre in my hometown when it was brand new. It's been over 50 years ago. And I remember being surprised to see Charles Bronson in the credits.
bob lackey ...i live c. Bronson...rough on outside beautiful on inside lke a Geode. Tu conoces?? Liz taylor is like a diamond. Always shinig, always beautiful and eveyone wants to possess her...yu know the rest..comment si vous plaits...merci beau coups roberto🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒🐒
Aye that was nice right there Vic. Glad you're still with us. Man, what a video montage to go along with your voice too. That was - hair standing on the back of my neck and arms - good.
Liz and Richard shared a love that transcended all time! They had trials but they truly loved each other immensely! That will never change! ❤❤❤
Liz and Richard.......this movie is without a doubt one of my favorites and the music.....oh my....
I loved it
My father died almost a year ago. the best thing that I inherited was the love for these songs,,
They are timeless..so are the memories your father

Oh my you said it so right. Such a lovely song from my youth, and this is the best version. So sad to think of what we have lost.
When movies were made for adults.

No… not really man. A lot of Old Hollywood actresses starting acting when they were like 16
@ꨄ ThatsALittleBassist I'm talking about adult themed scripts with interesting well written dialogue, not robots, or everything being another explosion. Add good acting and that's what the old movies had.
Liz was stunning beauty.
This is a beautiful song; first heard it 53 years ago, by Vic Damone, when I was twelve. Timeless and unforgettable.
RIP Vic Damone, passed away today 2/12/18. Thanks for the beautiful music.
Close enough - but it was Feb 11, '18 - So call me a nut for Damone-

This is the best version of this song that I've ever heard. There are no words to describe the beauty of it.
It is The best version by far !!!!!
So true Kathleen and there were so many other beautiful versions of this timeless song.

Great version. Andy Williams though!!!❤️❤️

There's still a lot of great new music out there, you just have to look for it. But music back in the day was amazing.

This song for all nearing the end. Beautiful for remembrance. May all be blessed.

Such a pure velvet voice. Perfect diction. SUPERB

It takes forever. You won't ever get over it. I'm still trying.
Go slow. Be kind to yourself. Stress the positive. Laugh. Stay in the present when upsetting thoughts come to mind. Know that this too shall pass.

Mr. Damone's voice has a poignancy and a melancholy that capture me...

Elizabeth Taylor, the most beautiful in the world, then and still.
I know this is a cheesy song, but it makes me cry
