You guys are amazing. I finished my first ultra here in New Zealand today (I'm irish) it was 53km and 2300 meters of elevation. It was such a beautiful experience . Your videos gave me alot of inspiration through out my training. Thank you and we'll done.
Ah thanks so much and well done yourself. Great to hear you have started on the ultra running journey. Having had that accident back in October I am more appreciative than ever to be able to get out and run long distances in the hills. Keep it up, I'll be interested to see where the road takes you.
Thanks so much. It was great just to able to start so everything after that was a bonus. Thanks also for mentioning my crew. These events are always a group effort. It would have been a very different day without them that's for sure.
I’m so happy you got to the start line Dave! I’d been keeping my eye out for your video and thought uh oh when I didn’t see it. Well Done on your finish and all the falls didn’t dampen your spirits one bit🤗🤗🤗
Thanks so much Sandra for your kind comment. I was really delighted to make it to the start line of this one. As you know it wasn't without its challenges. Recovery was slow through December but I was happy to give my body all the time it needed after the year it had produced. I'm glad to report I have only felt stronger and stronger over the past two weeks so watch out 2023....I'm coming to get ya!!
Thank you, yes, I thought it was important that some capture the beauty and diversity of this race. I have done many races in many different locations but this is definitely one I would like to go back to again. Depending on where your fitness is at you could also consider one of the shorter races and build up over time.
Ah thanks Will I appreciate that. It didn't go entirely the way I wanted but just to be able to spend that amazing day in South Africa was a great gift. I hope the vid lived up to you expectations.
That was one heck of a race Dave!!! Well done for finishing that one. :-) Of course having your amazing crewing wife Claire was a big help too..........we both know what that's like. :-)
Agreed, running is only half the job in races like that. The crew are so important. You’ve got an outstanding crew master yourself. But yes UTCT was a tough one.
Thanks, yeah, there was a smile at the end...but that was the joy of knowing the finish line was in sight. The video didn't do justice to the pain cave I was in for the last 10 miles. But overall really delighted to have been able to toe the line and pass such an incredible day in SA.
Thanks Brian, it certainly was an interesting course. Funny thing, now that I have seen it I have a hankering to go back and give it a proper rattling. Won't be for a few years though.
Thanks Nigel, yeah it really was touch and go for a long time as to whether I would be in a position to start so to be able run that race was really a great gift. Thanks again for watching.
@@filmmytrailrun you pretty much are at this stage. That what its all about, getting out and enjoying the freedom of trail running! Looking forward to the next video.
great run. i was following you on the live tracker during the race and you were right up there in your age group. pity the fall knackered your knee. well done. love your videos.
Thanks John, I appreciate that. Yeah, I would have liked to produce a stronger result. I know I have a sub 15 hour time in me so I may have to go back at some stage. That said, I am so happy to have had the experience and I won't forget that amazing day in the hills above Cape Town for a long long time.
Great job on finishing. Looks like a varied course, don't know how you managed those narrow pathways. How much was runnable and how much did you have to hike?
Thanks Tadeusz, yeah it was a varied course butI love that. A mix of everything. Ha, but I could probably have done without the baboons. A lot of unrunnable terrain particularly in the first half. Hard to know what the split was. Think I might need to go back and give that one another lash at some stage.
Wow wow what a wonderful life experience
Thanks Alan, that's exactly what it was. I'm under no illusion about just how lucky I am to be able to take part in these amazing adventures.

That looks like an extremely difficult course. Well done and thanks for the video

My wife was saying she bumped into you this morning out on the trails! Singing your praises lol. Must try and catch you one of the weekends.
Yep, you can tell her she made me feel like a movie star. It was nice to see so many people out enjoying the hills this morning.
