  • Broadway, in the county of Worcestershire is considered one of the most picturesque villages in the Cotswolds, an area of Outstanding Natural Beauty. It is often referred to as the”Jewel of the Cotswolds” because of its stunning scenery and charming architecture. It seems to be frozen in time, but that is certainly not the case. It has a very interesting history and has had to adapt to changing times as you will discover by watching my video.
    Key Features of Broadway:
    1. *Architecture* Broadway is known for its honey coloured Cotswold stone buildings, many of which date back to the 16th century. The village features a mix of traditional cottages, houses and historic inns.
    2. *High Street* The villages High Street is lined with independent shops, art galleries, and cafes making it a popular place to shop.
    3. *Broadway Tower* This iconic landmark is one of the notable features of the area. It was designed by the famous landscape architect Capability Brown for the 6th Earl of Coventry. The tower stands on the 2nd highest point in the Cotswolds, with breathtaking views. It is said that on a clear day up to 13 counties can be seen. It is on the Cotswold Way footpath so attracts lots of walkers. Broadway tower has a fascinating history and houses exhibitions about its past.
    4. * Arts and Culture* Broadway has a rich artistic heritage and has been a haven for artists and writers, particularly during the late 19th and early 20th centuries.
    5. * Nature and Walks* There are several walking trails making it an excellent base for outdoor enthusiasts.
    6. *Historical Significance* Broadway has a long history, with evidence of a settlement dating back to Roman times. The village profited during the medieval wool trade which contributed to its prosperity.
    7. *Local Amenities* Broadway has a range of amenities with interesting shops, great restaurants, informative museums and plenty of accommodation for visitors.
    8. *Heritage Steam Railway* You can enjoy a nostalgic 29 mile round trip from Broadway to Cheltenham Racecourse and enjoy glorious views of the Cotswolds and the Vale of Evesham.
    Broadway is a charming destination that captures the essence of the Cotswolds, making it a perfect place for people wishing to experience the beauty and history of rural England.
