- On July 29, 1948 Britain's King George VI opened the Olympic Games in London.
London, acting as host City, stages the Games for the first time since 1908, and Movietone, in presenting the opening scenes, will screen the highlights of the events as they continue. ® ® His Majesty the King opened the Games in a ceremony at Wembley Stadium. ® ® On the second day one of the highlights was the winning of the 10,000 metres by Emil Zatopek.

I can just imagine how excited these people were to attend the first Olympic games after the war, 12 years after the last Olympics had been held. For many of them, it was a sign of things REALLY returning back to the normal, especially in England, where rationing was still in effect and bomb damage was still evident. Interesting that in this film footage, there is no reference to the war. It's like everyone wanted to forget that it ever happened!

Lástima que no pusieron la carrera madre, la del cierre, la maratón de 42.195, kms, pero claro, como la ganó un argentino y venció a un inglés, no figuró, una pena.-
