I went home during the pandemic and I was looking through my old dvds and didn't think I needed them. Then one day I wanted to watch The Fall and I couldn't find it streaming or to purchase in the US. So a month later when I went back home I found The Fall in my DVD collection and strangely bought a DVD player at Walmart. I was dedicated to seeing this movie again.
The Fall has a special place in my heart, there was a very difficult time in my life, lots of stress and turmoil, one of those times when you feel suspended in mid air and not in a good way, I would watch The Fall every night, in the dead of night and it would bring me solace and comfort.
First time I heard about The Fall was , when I was watching the extra materials to The Hobbit , and Petter Jackson said he had seen Lee Pace in “ Tie Fall” and though he would be great as Thranduil . And I absolutely agree , Lee Pace as Thranduil , for me is the most perfect casting in history of cinema . However , it also got me to look for and find The Fall . And that’s easily one of the most beautiful movies I’ve ever seen ! ❤
I remember finding this film (through pirating, sorry Tarsem bhai!) on the internet and doing a tiny screening at my college's film club, only like 10 people showed up but it was really magical. Never stopped thinking about it, it's a masterpiece and wholly singular as Lee says.
I found this DVD in a bin at my grocery store. It has been my diamond ever since, extraordinary in all its facets. And Catinca is Romanian like me. No words, 'some of my people', Tarsem amazing.
She was an Oscar winner at that point (for Bram Stoker's Dracula) she's maybe the most famous costume designer ever. Sadly she's since past away. Her stuff is unique.
One of my favourite movies, of all time. For years, I've recommended it to people. Found it when I was in high school, and just absolutely fell in love with this movie.
I saw this in theaters when it first came out. And then again thanks to Mubi in October. Its such an exquisite film in so many ways. And Lee shines in it!
A wonderful interview with Lee about a real world cinematic masterpiece! This is exactly what real cinema should be like, so that it delights and excites years later! Bravo to everyone who took part!
The thing that makes the film for me is the decision to film the fantasy from the child's point of view. It's what _she_ sees in her head as he tells the story. So since she has no knowledge of Native Americans, when he talks about "Indians", she sees people from India. The whole fantasy is like that, a child's imagining of a story that would be much less colorful and bizarre if we were seeing it through the eyes of an adult.
I had never heard of this movie before a few weeks ago, but managed to catch it at my local theatre. It was a revelation, so moving and stunningly beautiful.
My favorite film of all time - I can't put into words its effect on me. I am not really a movie person, but my connection to it feels so personal, like it was made for me (and these comments show I'm not alone in this feeling). Everything about it - especially the acting and the cinematography - contributes to that feeling. What a gift to all kindred spirits.
I watched this movie in a theatre with a couple of other people and was mesmerized. After that I kept trying to find it to see if it would hold up. OMG. What an exquisitely beautiful movie and masterful storytelling.
This film is so beautiful. I saw it almoat when it came out and i was a teen. One of my favourite films of all times, so beautiful in many ways. For years i had no one to talk about the movie bc no one had saw it and is so wonderful how over the years have reach the status of cult film
I love The Fall so much. It’s really a great masterpiece. So glad it’s getting more attention. Watching it makes you realize how much work was put into it by the people work on it as much as the actors themselves. Lee did an amazing job with Roy. I really enjoyed it. And I hope many more will❤
The Fall is such a beautiful film Its literally art and a story put together into masterpiece! Lee did absolutely wonderful acting out all the characters and Tarsem is an absolute genius. The Fall will always be one of my favorite movies!
A one-of-a-kind film full of fantastic beauty. One of my all-time greatest viewing experiences was watching The Fall for the first time. I had no idea what I was getting into. But I loved the experience. So mesmerizing, so vivacious, but also melancholic, and grunge-y.
Now, The Fall is one of my favourite movies, I really appreciate. This year I watched, and I totally understand why is a master piece. Thank you Catinca and Lee. 😊🦋🍊🥰 I always memories: "his strength a spirit is in those teeth" And: "Googly, googly, googly". 😁🦷☺
Lee Pace is the best role model you could wish for. Such a wide range of character and imagination from Foundation, The Hobbit, Lincoln, Halt and Catch Fire, Pushing Daisies to THE FALL. Really looking forward to this and would love to give him a high five (:
I absolutely love this movie. It is magical, hypnotic, it absorbs you in a beautiful way. And Lee was amazing, his interpretation of roy and all of the emontions Roy goes through, the loss the anger the love for this little girl ...Also I see nobody talk about without him Catinca's performance wouldn't have been the same, the patience understanding and coaching Lee provided helped her with her acting. Without the bond they developed I don't think we would have such of great performance from her. You have to see the behind the camara and see how Lee talks to her in a very caring loving friendly way to understand it !
One of my favourite films. So perfect and ravishing in every way, every character and every scene. A Masterpiece. And I love being one of the Kindred Spirits ❤
Had to purchase this and the Director's cut of Kingdom of Heaven recently. LOVE this film. Would love to see Tarsem taken more seriously. His vision is so grand and lovely.
Thank you so much. I'm so happy that this movie is still being shown to people because it is a masterpiece. There's also a recent Tarsem interview where he answers fan questions on the fall. I'm glad all of the talents involved are still passionate about it. I wonder if they show the movie alongside 'the making of'. Cause it's a mind blowing twist. Also, where is Catinca now? I wonder if she remembers it all.
One of my favorite films of all times! Truly, the most beautiful film to look at I’ve ever seen and as a seamstress and cosplayer the costumes are god tier. I can not regiment this film enough ❤ P.S. It should be possible to still find the clip from the last day of shooting at the hospital where it was revealed to the crew and Catinca that Lee Pace could walk
Wow! I watched this movie in the movies with my late husband when it released! I remember he was very confused as to why I wanted to watch a live action, artsy movie since at the time I was more in to animated shows and movies, anime in particular. I told him it was just so colorful and looked so singular that to me it didn't look pretentious and it seemed like an interesting story; I came out so satisfied. I still don't like art house movies, I really am not a movie person anyways, but I remember this movie fondly, its just so beautiful.
I watched the movie, I wept, I grieved, for myself, for everyone else, for the human condition, throughout the film. In those 2 hours I lived the child and I lived Roy, someone who has been through depression, someone who has been heart broken, and someone who is terrified of eventually facing loved one's death one after another, mother father sister brother, I saw myself pleading Roy to console the child on the screen in return console me too, that in this story no one will die, or even if they do the child must be shielded from the story of life, because I can't be shielded for sure at this age, he says "everything must die", It was like Roy and the child were both one and the same, and I was them. - my younger self and me. The worst times of my life which at that moment never seemed to be coming to an end I vividly remember weeping and furiously asking "when will this pain end", I wanted to run to my mother burry my head in her chest, hide from everything like we all did when we were little,. This was my "googly googly" chant, which you lose access to when you grow up. There is no googly googly chant, you have to pull yourself out of the hole by yourself with all your might, and it's not once, it's a 10000 times your entire life, until death. "He was in 4 feet water" trying to drown, it made me smile. She asked him to show all his fingers that he actually made the promise. And then there is storytelling, with whatever fewer colors of the world child knows of, the world and story is painted using those colors.. the Indian, all characters from the hospital. The world builds on top of the world known. And then the movie ended, I googled, and I read some reviews and then I was immensely disappointed by surface level reviews by the so called critics. For the first time I actually understood, its not always art and the artist that are judged and critiqued, the art also judges those experiencing it, it can differentiate between spectators sitting on a high horse critiquing and those who are collectively building on top of the art many worlds in their hearts, living them as they go. It almost made me furious to read some of the reviews, as if they were denying me the acknowledgement of this painful grieving existence like how could they not see it in the film, how would they see it around themselves? How would they see what I saw beyond the words uttered on the screen "angry men burned our house". These people not only lack imagination but also soul. All they have is a pen and some clout.
Was a big fan of Wonderfalls tv series and Lee Pace, and read Roger Eberts review(Roger Ebert is never wrong) of The Fall, and rush to the movie theater to see it. The movie is a 21 century movie classic an absolute epic film. Sadly the movie distribution gods fools that they are decided not to show this in a lot of theaters. Hopefully people will see the error in their ways and give it another chance. Thank God Tarsem made this movie.❤
Thankyou so much for talking about his incredible film after quite some time 🟥✨🤍🏵️--also had no idea they filmed in Leh/ladakh, makes perfect sense. There is absolutely no place like it 🗻🏔️
