How quickly I have forgotten the juggernaut that was the Mighty Bombers back in 2000. I am watching the highlights and the score is Essendon 98 to Saints 39 and I am thinking wow game over, great game. Then up pops the game time and it is just the end of the 2nd qtr! We smashed teams that year.
2000 was an extremely high scoring year, with an average score of 105 compared to 88 today. There were 43 occasions where both teams topped 100 points in a game that year. Essendon was totally dominant in every department, averaging 128 points and conceding just 80 points a game.
watching this makes me long for a young and fully fit matthew lloyd and the class of james hird. i dont think we will ever see the likes of those two playing at the same time again in our lifetimes. 2000 was truly special. how good was that contested mark by blumfield!? and the long bomb goal from slasher? if our second tier players start to step up and help jobe, hurlz and fletch there is no reason why we cant go deep into the finals this year.

These days you only see a score of 98 in about 1 in every dozen or so games. I so miss the days when you could see a team score 98 by half time!
The unspoken statistic of 2000 was the fact that the vast majority of teams that played Essendon in 2000 lost there next game, nearly every time.
I miss Bruce so I love these old videos.

What a team.
Thanks for the highlights!
This team was just so good!
If only the players had stayed together instead of chasing their fortunes we’d have had a huge dynasty.
