Mad respect for your thoroughness in coverage and hard stance on why these early games stand out against later entries. Glad to know I'm not the only one who likes a pure tennis experience lol
dope ass video, was craving some Mario Tennis talk and you hit the spot. absolutely love that you and your college homies had all that n64 shit and ripped this on the regular lmao I can feel the nostalgia thru the screen.
The most recent tennis installment on the switch was annoying and confusing and had way too many power shots, power blocks..etc. I just want to play tennis, haha. This one was my favorite growing up and actually inspired me to join the tennis team in high school.
I was one of the ones who had the ones who had the game boy and N64 versions! Finding out how the characters worked was a bit of a process for younger me at the time, but when I got it to work, it was fun! Low key wished more games did something like this
This video encapsulates my experience with this game. The multiplayer is so intuitive and simple yet there is so much opportunity for complexity, and it creates such good competitive moments during co-op. Great game, so glad they release it for the switch for Nintendo online
I love hearing that Yugioh music in the background lol. Great video, hats off for making it. Been playing this game since 2000 and still love breaking it out. my only complaint is I kinda have beef with your tier list. Mario and Luigi have no business being that far down. Sure, for whatever reason the coms have no idea how to play as these characters and they always suck, but in player hands they're 2 of the best in the game, particularly Luigi. Luigi is so OP at the net it's unreal. His reach and smashes are phenomenal. The only difference between him and Mario, is that Luigi's serve speed is about 5mph slower than Mario, but he's better in every other regard.
Fair and interesting take, especially on Luigi, admittedly I haven't seen him on the court controlled by a human in a long while. I might have to take him for a spin next time.
Picked this one up after a few years and it's been a challenge trying to star every character. I know how to do all the different shots, I just wish I know WHEN to do each one. My go-to strategy is to rush to the net, smack it with a A+B shot and hope the CPU can't return it.
I love Mario Tennis so much honestly. On the last week of my sophomore year, i managed to get a couple of people in my class (who were all impatient freshmen who wanted to play Smash instead) into Mario Tennis. We ran doubles the entire class period until the end of the school year 😭
I miss the days when my bros. And I played the game constantly and even having like a year and a half of straight victories against them, fun times, using Boo and later on the line with Nina when I got the GBC game (the female playable MC in the GBC story mode... And yeah, I'm referring to her with her default name) in the N64 emulated releases from Nintendo... Unless you know a way to inject a modded save, the GBC content is locked and you can't access it at all.
i still have my old game, however lately we always play it on the swith online version, with 4 n64 nos controller^^ but i really have to achieve the star levels again for each of the players thanks for the video
Although the game can be frustrating, it also feels very fair, especially when playing with other people. I think it's the movement speed that does it. In the more recent games, I think they restricted it in order to make mechanics like Power Shots more useful. If you play your cards right in 64, you can return almost any shot in any situation, but in later games that was NOT the case.
Absolutely loved this game as a kid and still do as an adult! My younger brother and I would play doubles as Paratroopa and Boo against DK JR and Shy Guy on very hard and have never won lol. We still pull out the N64 every once in a while to play our old games together. :) Also, great job on the video! It didn't pass by me without noticing you putting in Ratchet & Clank and Yugioh Duelists of the Roses songs in there. Nice touch! 🤌
I do! Power Tennis is definitely a good time, never played the Wii release of it, heard it was one of the lazier ports.. I played Aces at the time of release and also enjoyed that - especially the online mode which I believe was free at the time (pre Smash Ultimate). Everything after 64 definitely has a different gameplay rhythm with the special shots being introduced. I didn't dig too deeply into it in the vid but I think the special shots work best when the defending player has a legitimate chance to return them, rather than it just being free points.
I haven't had the chance to play the Switch port with the Nintendo Online subscription but it looks super interesting with the inclusion of online multiplayer alone! If I ever resubscribe I'm definitely gonna check it out..
Yoshi cpu is frustrating to deal with No matter how much I tell him “USE THE B BUTTON,” I sadly couldn’t And so, every shot from him would be a lob and I would be left to defend against a smash from either donkey kong or bowser And I WOULD LOOK LIKE THE BAD PLAYER
Unfortunately, it's not possible to have 2 human players do a doubles tourney - just exhibition matches. If I said that during the video that's misinformation, my mistake! Next time I get the chance to watch through again I'll update this comment
Tested this out and it is not possible to play 2 player in tourney mode ): I didn't hear any mention of it in the video but I also didn't say you couldn't haha so for anyone wondering this unfortunately isn't possible

Got Mario tennis today, picked it up for £15 what a bargain I last played it in 2004 and man its still as good now as it was then

Best game I've ever played.
- Daisy
**also the guy falling over on a pickleball court
Amazing game so so addictive
I was a Daisy main so cool to see she’s considered good in this game

This is a great video. I really enjoyed it!
It doesn’t require 3 controls or friends. There is a whole slew of P1 content.

Me and my friends played this to death back in the day. We'd have Really competitive matches it was so much fun good memories!
Subscribed!
I freaking love the Mario Tennis Series.
After playing both games, Mario Tennis on the GBC is superior 100% 🔥🔥🔥
8:23 hot take I think characters like bowser and Mario are some of the best characters in the game in my opinion
I always got respect for the Bowser/Brother players. Daisy can be a straight up hag tho
This chart makes no sense in relation to what you’re saying.
Best tennis game ever.
5:01 so we just gonna skip over wtf

A CORE MEMORY
5:26 RINGSHOT the memories

I liked the Wii one but the Switch one felt way too hard. Maybe I just suck, idk.

I fixed my N64 transfer pak by Jamming some scrunched up paper Inside
that thumbnail goes hard
so does the video
A question:why this specific tennis game and not others?just for the Mario theme?
(also you can disable power shots in the gc one)
The GC one is more sluggish and goves you less control over the ball
Do you like the GameCube Mario tennis?
Also, do you still play, I love playing it on the Switch, just wish there were more people to play with

Re discovered this game in the pandemic and was amazing. Love this franchise.
Any opinions about the Switch port?

God damn. I couldn’t agree more
I've never played this game. Does anybody know if you can play matches with two players teamed against two cpu?
Not in tourney mode but I believe in exhibition mode you can..
Nice
