You know your stuff. I drove big trucks all my life and you must have clean oil furnaces. Well good job. You just saved me 200 bucks. I clean and serviced my BECKETT oil heater, changed filter replaced nozzle and screen and new rods 1/8 and 1/2 specks---------------. I have Steve to thank. So THANKS -------------Thank you --------------------UA-cam!!!!!!!!
Duuuuuuuude. Nothing wrong with my heating system per se, I just wanted to do my own check up and tune up. I followed Steve's video to a "T". I cleaned the burner gun real well with a brass bristle brush. I chose brass bristle because of its great scrubing ability but brass bristle will not scratch the parts you're cleaning. You never want scratches on the parts because carbon and other deposits will immediately want to attract and build up where scratches are. I just dipped the brush in clean #2 oil fuel. This seemed to work compared to ther cleaners. I wiped everything with a clean cloth and everything looked like new. I check Cad cell, changed filter, nozzle and then primed.i don't remember when this burner worked so well as it does now. My air is hotter and gets to temp quicker. Most of all, this was fun. Thanks so much Steve, I subscribed to your channel!
My regular guys don't do half the stuff You did...never ever saw them use any kind of test equipment. Time to get some new people. Thank you for the video
Steve nice video brother. here in the NYC I don't work a lot on oil l burners some residential locations that i do on the side. watching your videos helps me alot
Thanks, it is maybe the best upload I have found for this kind of stuff. I think I'll manage to do the "unthinkable", to (try) clean my father's oil burner, even though it looks a lot different from this one (in my inexpert eyes at least). Thanks a lot again Steven, greetings from Greece.
He is a zen master, his raw instincts from years of experience draws him to the real issues quickly. He never ends up in dead ends or rat holes of failed solutions. Just sit back and watch and learn, while you cant expect to ever be at his level you can move forward in your understanding and get a few jobs done.
+steven lavimoniere ive watched a bunch of your vids while battling my burner this weekend. thanks, they have helped quite a bit. I'm too stubborn to call someone and like to learn all this stuff myself. If you ever replace a firebox in something like a burnham with turbolators I'd love to see it.
That's a dirty pig, the tech is doing a good job, i have been working on oil burners for about 20yrs now and it's always neglect from customer they only call when the see smoke, lol, it should be serviced every 12 months, keep up the good work.
Hey steven, at 8:00 you are showing your gasketing material. I haven't come across that one specifically. My question is what's the brand and name of the gasketing material. I could have used some today on a C&Service. thanks brother, keep up the hard work.
that looks like a Burnham PV83WT-TBWF, I just cleaned one that was new in 2002 and nothing had ever been done to it except a couple new nozzles and filters when the furnace quit, I had to replace the fire box quilts.
Very good vid, old boiler eh, it would be interesting to see analyser reading b4 and then after , she was well suited up, theres a few of that type of boiler walking our streets lol
Steve, I watch a lot of furnace guys work on my furnace and they don't half the shit you are doing on the stoves now I know they are all "fly by nights" gonna clean my own stove
Wow that seems like it's a really big job to clean that and it looks dirty with all that soot cuz I remember touching a little bit of that soot and one little powder gets all over you. What does it mean when a backup burner just smells a little bit coming out of the main chimney? It's not smoking or anything it just has a kind of a smell to it a little bit. If anybody can help me let me know thanks but it doesn't stink in the basement or anything. Only when the burner comes on you just smell once in awhile a little bit from the outside chimney. And there's not many people like you that work like that anymore I used to work really hard until I got my disease
Good video! You probably get asked this a lot but, what brand/ model of residential hot water boiler is the easiest to service and long lasting? Buderus, Weil Mclain, ect?
That boiler really opens up for "SPA TREATMENTS by Lavimoniere" What does the fireomatic spring attach to up above? What temperature does it release at and does it stretch or melt to relieve the valve actuater?
beckett burner your good at them steven . I seen your videos on them . you guys must have a lot of them up by you . in Illinois and southern Wisconsin I don't see to many anymore most people upgraded to gas heat .oil is very expensive to run . I heard like 300 a month for heating oil
Wow oil use to be very expensive too . but gas is the way to go . on Tuesday im working in a subdivision in barrington Illinois barrrington shores they only have electrical furnaces there and the a/c units a hell to install and remove as well . up on crazy hill you have push the condenser up with care too .
Hi I have a question I can get a 2007 burnham oil hot water funace still In crate never been used doesn't come with burner will any burner work like beckett #136 60 b at 140 can u fill me in
Hey Steve nice video. What do you guys usually charge up there to do that boiler cleaning you just did. I'm in New York n i do hvac I was just wondering what you guys charge
Excellent job, Did that old motor have oil ports? Or were those drain ports? I wish all new motors had oil ports, not just seal bearings. Have you ever tried to oil a out door condenser fan motor through the drain plugs? Just thinking if it would do any good. Thank for the video.
gerry mcadams the motor did have oil ports but the motor was making some funky noises ever after oiling,so i changed it out .no i never oil condenser fan motors
Steve - my boiler needs a great cleaning like that. No one in my area does it. Can you recommend anyone for me in the Delaware area? Let me know....thanks a lot!
after paying $400 for a cleaning ,plus a new transformer, from the local oil burner guy the furnace runs great for half a day or so, than shuts down and will not start again, where do you suggest to check for a possible problem?
+steven lavimoniere I live in Maine, what do you charge for a service call? What pisses me off is that the furnace was running perfect before the cleaning,, the only change made was going to a smaller nozzle because the service guy said the wrong one had been installed.... thanks for the great videos
Steve can you show how to jump out the burner switch so that it stays on while you're priming the oil pump. And what is the name of the wool that you're using to seal the top of the furnace? Sounds like you are saying Key Wool?
Once the motor runs, you jump out the two F terminals to fool the control into thinking the cad cell sees a flame. The seal he's using is called Kaowool, made by Lynn.
I have an Oil furnace that's over 5 years old and every time the temp go's to 15 or less I have to run a hair dryer on the line coming in from the outside to the Electronic Post Purge . do you know how to fix this ?
Just want to keep others who watch the video from having call backs after they maintain an oil burner ,you could have a weak transformer you need to check each high voltage terminal individually from the case -ground 3/4 gap with insulated screwdriver or the best way is to use a PROPER high voltage meter to check the high v terminals.
nice video.. does that heater use 240v?? and does the transformer run all the time like that big motor? i thought using oil was supposed to be cheaper than using electric.. looks like that furnace uses both.. and alot of it...
They use 120 volts. The transformer may stay live during the full run, or may drop out once the flame is proven. Depends on the primary control used. Older controls won't drop the transformer. Even still, cheaper than electric baseboard, as the transformer isn't pulling much for amperage.
You've probably been asked this question before and probably answered the question before but I was curious about the metal brush you use for cleaning the heat exchanger. I just did an annual maintenance on a Weil-Mclain Ultra 155 high efficiency boiler and I used a regular hacksaw blade (small heat exchanger on it) but I also clean out other types of boilers. Your blade for cleaning out all those rows is something I really need. Is that something I could get through a supply house or is there a boiler outfit you get parts from that carry those? I'm located in west central Illinois and we have plenty of gas fired boilers down here. There are a few oil burners but mostly gas ones.
+TheRueuhy this is what i use but the thicker one www.ebay.com/itm/Soot-saber-Soot-saw-boiler-cleaner-tool-/121440326454?hash=item1c46685336 gas boilers are not designen to be cleaned like oil boilers are
+steven lavimoniere I think I've worked on one oil fired hot air furnace but no oil boilers. Never saw a oil boiler actually. 20+ years doing hvac. I'm actually installing a gas steam boiler (Weil Mclain EG75) this past week and monday. I occasionally have help on bigger projects but I work primarily by myself. Other than getting the equipment in, do you mostly do all the work on bigger installs like that by yourself. People usually look at me surprised when they ask if I have someone to help me and I tell them it's just me on changeouts. Thanks for the ebay link!!!
Yea I have to find one of those giant blades u use and start doing more major cleaning of gas fired boilers we service . I learned a great deal watching your videos . Thanks again.
steven lavimoniere I also love your Testo CO tester and it's shows the efficiency which is awesome. I wish my boss would buy a 320 but maybe I'll just save my tips for a while and grab it myself . Alot of times when I'm doing heat checks on gas fired boilers or even furnaces I'm going in blind without a tool like the Testo .
justin henning you really need a good combustion annalise tester when working on gas or oil .to check for c.o. i have seen some crazy high reading .on some stuff.very scarry .you need to make sure that appliance is safe to run or your putting your ass on the line .you could end up killing someone .
Steve you are what a professional is meant to be. It good to know that there are professional like yourself still around.
+jahann figueroa thanks for watching

Great video Steven. I actually may take some oil calls this year because of everything I learned from watching your oil videos.
Richard Fossani good luck with the oil calls .

Nice job Steve from the 978
Steve, Very informative video
S Sam thanks for watching
You say use a well insulated screwdriver to test transformer but yours seems to be made of glass, am I missing something? Please help.
Steve, I watch a lot of furnace guys work on my furnace and they don't half the shit you are doing on the stoves now I know they are all "fly by nights" gonna clean my own stove
Jake Wright if they all did as much as this guy is doing your boiler "special" would be $300 not ($99!) you get what you pay for.

You should be running a wintermix. Not straight No. 2.
Does a husky clear screwdriver from Home Depot qualify as well insulated?
+shane3000 make sure its a well insulated screw driver or you get light up like the 4th of july .
Great job steven lavimoniere she'll last a few more year's to come.

How high ist the efficency of these boilers?
Looks like not so much.
H4zuZazu usually like 84 to 85 % is all you will get out of this type of oil boiler
Steve how do you know how close the electrodes have to be to the nozzles/ is there a special way to do it.
Emin HVAC there is a gauge to go by for the electrodes,, i just know by eye were i want them, from working on them for 20 years
Yeah I know you know lol. I was just wondering if there is a special way of doing it. Thanks brother.
What lube do you use for motor bearings?
Thank u Steve
Nice video Steven! So really, why do you wear rubber gloves?????
Brad1237202 lol why do you wear gloves lol
Hey Steve do u find gas fired boilers need a major cleaning of the heat exchanger like u preform on the oil fired stuff?
