    Duuuuuuuude. Nothing wrong with my heating system per se, I just wanted to do my own check up and tune up. I followed Steve's video to a "T". I cleaned the burner gun real well with a brass bristle brush. I chose brass bristle because of its great scrubing ability but brass bristle will not scratch the parts you're cleaning. You never want scratches on the parts because carbon and other deposits will immediately want to attract and build up where scratches are. I just dipped the brush in clean #2 oil fuel. This seemed to work compared to ther cleaners. I wiped everything with a clean cloth and everything looked like new. I check Cad cell, changed filter, nozzle and then primed.i don't remember when this burner worked so well as it does now. My air is hotter and gets to temp quicker. Most of all, this was fun. Thanks so much Steve, I subscribed to your channel!

    Thanks, it is maybe the best upload I have found for this kind of stuff. I think I'll manage to do the "unthinkable", to (try) clean my father's oil burner, even though it looks a lot different from this one (in my inexpert eyes at least). Thanks a lot again Steven, greetings from Greece.

    Wow that seems like it's a really big job to clean that and it looks dirty with all that soot cuz I remember touching a little bit of that soot and one little powder gets all over you. What does it mean when a backup burner just smells a little bit coming out of the main chimney? It's not smoking or anything it just has a kind of a smell to it a little bit. If anybody can help me let me know thanks but it doesn't stink in the basement or anything. Only when the burner comes on you just smell once in awhile a little bit from the outside chimney. And there's not many people like you that work like that anymore I used to work really hard until I got my disease

    Steve can you show how to jump out the burner switch so that it stays on while you're priming the oil pump. And what is the name of the wool that you're using to seal the top of the furnace? Sounds like you are saying Key Wool?

    • @erikj.2066
      @erikj.2066 7 років тому +1

      Once the motor runs, you jump out the two F terminals to fool the control into thinking the cad cell sees a flame.
      The seal he's using is called Kaowool, made by Lynn.

    Just want to keep others who watch the video from having call backs after they maintain an oil burner ,you could have a weak transformer you need to check each high voltage terminal individually from the case -ground 3/4 gap with insulated screwdriver or the best way is to use a PROPER high voltage meter to check the high v terminals.

  • @lawnside82
    @lawnside82 7 років тому

    nice video.. does that heater use 240v?? and does the transformer run all the time like that big motor? i thought using oil was supposed to be cheaper than using electric.. looks like that furnace uses both.. and alot of it...

    • @erikj.2066
      @erikj.2066 7 років тому +1

      They use 120 volts. The transformer may stay live during the full run, or may drop out once the flame is proven. Depends on the primary control used. Older controls won't drop the transformer. Even still, cheaper than electric baseboard, as the transformer isn't pulling much for amperage.

    You've probably been asked this question before and probably answered the question before but I was curious about the metal brush you use for cleaning the heat exchanger. I just did an annual maintenance on a Weil-Mclain Ultra 155 high efficiency boiler and I used a regular hacksaw blade (small heat exchanger on it) but I also clean out other types of boilers. Your blade for cleaning out all those rows is something I really need. Is that something I could get through a supply house or is there a boiler outfit you get parts from that carry those? I'm located in west central Illinois and we have plenty of gas fired boilers down here. There are a few oil burners but mostly gas ones.

      +steven lavimoniere I think I've worked on one oil fired hot air furnace but no oil boilers. Never saw a oil boiler actually. 20+ years doing hvac. I'm actually installing a gas steam boiler (Weil Mclain EG75) this past week and monday. I occasionally have help on bigger projects but I work primarily by myself. Other than getting the equipment in, do you mostly do all the work on bigger installs like that by yourself. People usually look at me surprised when they ask if I have someone to help me and I tell them it's just me on changeouts. Thanks for the ebay link!!!
