    I haven't gotten to doing my Firman generators yet but I stumbled on to your video in the past and your instructions are so clear and concise that I can confidently do this myself. Thank you so much.

      @@JCTFIXIT Well. I finally did my two generaters after years of procrastination and when I felt I had recovered enough from my surgery I turned to your video and did the play by play. I have to say I sure wish I had a smooth experience like yours. The first one I had a bit of a challenge putting on the rubber air intake hose onto the filter box. I hope it's in good enough. Anyway, the second one earned me about forty minutes of swearing. The metal backing clip that the bolt that goes into the filter box was misaligned and I had to do a lot of wrangling in aligning the bolt so the nut on that clip would finally take the threads and I finally get the bolt to seat and drive it snug. Whew! The filter and the filter cover was a quick fix and, Voila! I'm still not a small engine mechanic. Lol. Once again, your instructions were spot on and I have have some experience now in doing this by myself. The real test comes when I buy prime gas and test for any leaks. Got my fingers crossed and wish me luck.

    Good instructions, thanks. Just ordered this generator from Costco and the dowloaded manual has nothing on high altitude operation besides a passing comment. The Firman FAQs do have some info. I'm at 3400 feet so I'll call for the 3000-6000 feet jet. If I use it at the beach I'll switch back to the original low altitude jet. A little bit hassle but you don't starve and overheat the engine. I'll make sure it starts and runs on the original jet first before making the switch.

      If you find that the generator is "wandering" loosen the screw to the choke cable and let out a mm or 2 of slack. If that cable is overtightened it will cause this problem.

    • @wikolib6821
      @wikolib6821 2 місяці тому

      @@JCTFIXIT Thanks for the tip. Thinking by "wandering" you mean a slightly surging low idle in eco mode. I can see how relaxing the choke cable a smidge would lean out and steady the low idle, if the choke cable is too tight.

    Update: The 2100/1700 I just got seems to be running better with the 3000 to 6000 jet, did initially have have a fuel leak at the bowl wasn't seated correctly on the new gasket. Don't know how I managed that, solved that issue. Firman sent me a Model W01784 with a date code of 8-30-21 so I changed the bowl gasket for good measure. Seems to be running better still surging slightly on low rpm eco mode pretty steady on high idle and with a load. Not as quiet as my Honda 2000. Got 1.5 hours on it with a 1600 watt space heater and then no load switching between eco and high idle. I'll put some more hours on it to evaluate it and then change the oil at 5 hours.

    Nice video. I have the next size up Firman and so far have only run it on propane. Sea level to about 10K in elevation without changing the jet. It's always started right up and worked fine. I wonder if the jet change applies to running on propane also? Does anyone know? Being a 2 stroke motorcycle junkie I am too familiar with carb jet tuning on the gas engines.

    • @JCTFIXIT
      @JCTFIXIT  2 роки тому +1

      I would imagine that the jetting is not nearly as sensitive on propane as it is on gas

      What did you end up doing? I have the same question and wonder if it is necessary with propane at all.

      If it's running good, it's probably not a large concern

    Great video! Thanks for sharing. I also live at a about 4,500 feet and mostly camp in the mountains at 8,000+- . Curious to know your long-term thoughts on this generator and how it has worked at elevation.

    • @JCTFIXIT
      @JCTFIXIT  Рік тому +1

      Thanks! After a couple years of usage I have to say it has been pretty much flawless for me. My only advice is to set it on a piece of wood or a tarp or something hard if you take it camping just because the air intake is on the bottom and you don't want to be sucking up straight dirt.

    Nice video! Your video has been the only video that even covers the carburetor for this particular model. Is this also how you remove and clean the carburetor as you normally would? I'm not installing anything new, but I notice after having/using this generator for a year it recently dies down when a load is running and many say it's because of a clogged carburetor.

    • @alleycat1387
      @alleycat1387 2 роки тому +1

      Please answer as soon as you see this. Can I clean the carburetor without removing it or would I still have to take the carburetor out in order to clean it? The manual doesnt talk about how to clean the carburetor for this model and there's no video on youtube that does either.

      Pull the jets out and soak them in carb cleaner.

    • @JCTFIXIT
      @JCTFIXIT  2 роки тому +2

      You should not need to pull the whole carb apart

      Also, in your small engines, always run ethanol-free fuel. The ethanol is usually what causes problems. Most stations fuel has 10% ethanol. You don't want this.

    Do I need to drain the entire gas tank?

    • @JCTFIXIT
      @JCTFIXIT  10 місяців тому

      No. When you turn the fuel petcock to the off position, it blocks the flow of fuel from the tank. If you can turn the fuel peacock to the off position while running and let it run until it dies on its own and the carb would empty itself while running. But then you have to wait for it to cool down. 😎

    Greetings from Australia mate. Did you notice the main jet size?. They have a number on the side. I have the same generator and it is always running lean. I wonder if the previous owner changed the main jet. Mine says 70 on the side.
