    I have the same unit with the same starting issue. 99% sure it’s a bad ignition coil. Have a new one coming this week and will update!

    Pretty much exactly what I was looking for thanks for the content. To be fair, you ran at 50% load and their rating was for 25%, so if you double your 4.5 hours that's spot on their estimate of 9 at 25%

      Very true! Also, just as a heads up if you do buy a refurb unit of these, make sure it isn’t burning oil. This one blew the connecting rod at 110 hours, luckily I requested a replacement due to the oil burning issues, but it did eventually blow.

    I think you just got a bad unit; I have the same one (also bought on ebay from Firman) and it starts super easy and runs super smooth. Definitely not like yours was running. Glad they sent you a new one.

    you should start the generator before you plug everything in it has a green light which turns on after about 15 seconds telling you its ready for a load

      This is why it was struggling to turn on. Unplug before turning on and before turning off..

    Fun test! I love these types of videos. Too bad the connecting rod broke but at least now you have a ton of spare parts. I have a Firman 2100 with very low hours on it but still bought another one a couple weeks ago as a back up. I have never experienced that weird sputter start, did your second one do that as well?

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  8 місяців тому +1

      Not even a little, the second one started like it should. I believe this even had low compression in this video which is why it was so hard to start. Thanks for watching :)

    Hello, how much oil would it burn? Trying to determine how much is too much vs what’s normal.

    You are the generator test king!! Whats your favorite one? The Genmax 3500? Seems like it has it all!? Also are you an Affilliate for these products? Rather buy them from your links if you are. And Lastly, do you think a 3500 genny is as good as the 800watts of solar? With your 400AH of LiFePo4 batteries, it seems the genny is a better buy with more reliability!?

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  Рік тому +1

      The genmax is a great machine but pricey! I have a firman dual fuel in my hands now that is also going to be getting reviewed shortly that rivals the genmax at half the price!
      The genny is a good backup for the solar. I use mine for charging the batteries at night after a hot day of running the AC and running the batteries down.
      I am not technically an affiliate of Firman, but for the other generators I have amazon affiliate links. I think the firman is a good buy, so I’m not offended if I don’t get a kickback!
      Thanks for watching :)

    Well, it is estimated 4.5 hrs on a full tank at 50% load. To be fair, at 25% load, 9hr estimate by Firman doesnt sound outrageous if you just count kwh generated per gallon.

    • @dlloyd6300
      @dlloyd6300 8 місяців тому

      Basically spot on honestly. Half the load double the time.

    Can you review the new generation and compare it to this one? Maybe the new one starts better and you just had a faulty one sent to you. I see them for sale right now at that price, it's tempting.

    I've been thinking about buying that exact generator eBay has them on sale for like $250 I need one to charge my solar systems Lithium Batteries u think this generator will be able to handle it ?

  • @chuckcox3255
    @chuckcox3255 11 місяців тому +1

    Their runtime is probably based on setting the generator on ECO mode. You didn’t mention this in your video. I assume you ran it on full power mode. Did you check the air filter? The air intake in on the bottom so it sucks dirt in.

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  11 місяців тому +1

      All of my runtime tests happen with the eco mode on. All components were checked and it ended up having a faulty connecting rod. It snapped at 105 hours, so you can expect a tear down video in the coming weeks. Thanks for watching!

  • @samuelclemens9516
    @samuelclemens9516 11 місяців тому +1

    I have one I got brand new from Costco it has burned oil from day 1, I just choose to ignore it, still works fine, starts on 2 pulls. I do find it starts easier in eco mode and if I try to turn that off before it warms up it will stall.

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  11 місяців тому

      Yeah this one had a definitive knock and burned oil also. Just a couple weeks ago the connecting rod snapped. In a future video I’ll be doing a full engine tear down. Thanks for watching!

      @@theconnectedcamper The challenge In my mind will be sourcing parts (pistons, rods, rings, bearings, sleeves, etc.) If you need a machinist to do any work I ponder would one likely exceed the cost of the unit? The sense I get is these are so cheap no one tries to rebuild them. Fortunately no knock for me on the one I purchase new, but I have an unopened boxed refurb unit, I am now concerned about, need to open and test, so I Iook forward to your rebuild video.

    • @theconnectedcamper
      @theconnectedcamper  11 місяців тому

      @@samuelclemens9516 you are definitey right and a rebuild would absolutely exceed the value. I plan to grab a predator 79cc and just see if that can replace it. If it can, it will be a fun project to get working correctly. But you are right, probably not going to make the most financial sense with these things only being worth $300 at most.

      This machine had low compression and rod knock during this video which was why it was hard to start. Inverter gens have the inverter off until it comes up to speed. The only load on it at the beginning was 20w.
      The connecting rod broke at 110 ish hours due to manufacturer error during initial build.
