+yumadapaka Haha....after reading your reply, i straight away went to a Felder clip playing One of These Nights. Ain't he awesome. Wished i had half of his guitar skills....
@@PasstheCapo Exactly! He’s not the slightest”underated”(god i hate that word)anyone that knows anything about music knows who Don Felder is and if they don’t i feel sorry for them because they must have been living under a rock for 40 plus years.
One of the most underrated guitarists of all time. How many guitar players have even one solo that most people can hum from memory? Don Felder has dozens.
How wonderful to hear the comments of a mega-talented, healthy, sane, sensible, modest and genuine guy. A refreshing exception in the world of Pop music/Rock and Roll.
Felder is the reason I picked up a guitar. His setup is as unpretentious and effective as the man himself. Such a humble and gratious man. He may have lost the Eagles but he seems to have won his soul back and found peace and happiness not to mention looking and playing better than ever, long may it continue Don. P.S Please come back to Ireland for a solo gig !
Don Felder is in the highest category of guitar player in the world IMO. I saw him play with his family at a smaller venue benefit concert he did in my city and it was great. If you get a chance to see him live don't miss it. I was pretty close to the stage and was so freakin star struck man.
A lovely man. I just finished reading his autobiography 'Heaven and Hell'. My God was he abused in the Eagles, emotionally and financially. A nice, gentle man. I'm so glad he's found happiness now.
Total legend in every way, humble, funny and just an all round nice guy. Every time I play the guitar I can hear this guy in everything I do. Respect from Australia.
The way he explains it is pure simple and layman ... bcos he is such down to earth. No bragging, no over the top complex wording...just easy to hear and listen to. You're pure class Mr Don Felder... im a big fan.
The problem with the other zombie Eagles as you call them, they are under Don Henley's total and complete control. It's either his way or the highway. You can't have a good time on stage like Don Felder and Joe Walsh use to have because it took away from the attention Henley and Frey only wanted and no one else in the band. Today the Eagles are just a cover band of themselves. I had to laugh at one thing Henley and Frey did with the intro to Hotel California (Hell Freezes Over)Where Felder played the intro on an acoustic guitar. After they dumped Felder they got a brass section to do the intro, what a piece of crap that was.
I'm not a big Eagles fan but read his book on the recommendation of a friend and it was one of the best Rock books I've ever read! I came away with a whole new appreciation of Don Felder. For one thing, it turns out all those parts I assumed were Joe Walsh parts turned out to be DF
Felder seems to be a real nice guy. Indeed, in Hotel California, he has what is probably the most notable & recognized guitar solo in all of rock. Hats off to you, sir. Slainte, Richard
Even though there are a few mods in his rig, it's very simplistic. Proof that great tone is in the hands of a great player. Thank you Mr. Felder for some of the most memorable riffs ever recorded.🎸
Perhaps the best AND nicest rock guitarist in history. And...he's from right here in Gainesville, FL! I agree with Kane (below) - Don has dozens of memorable guitar solos that he has given us. Thank you, Don!
+Picco bow He is a great singer, his harmonies are pitch perfect but I have to agree his voice lacked that special "something" that makes a lead vocalist stand out, sorry Don as you are a super talented all around musician.
One of the most underrated tasteful players, he brought a lot to the Eagles, when Joe Walsh joined they created magic, different styles yet they worked together like clockwork, Hotel California is one of the greatest guitar duo's of all time period. There was a competitive edge between them but instead of petty squabbling they played off each other.Don a better all round acoustic and electric player, Joe played his unique balls to the wall rock but boy did it work.
WOW ... I saw Don Felder with his awesome band in Springfield, Mass on 14 Sept 2013 ... phenomenal concert !!! It was like seeing The Eagles for 30 bucks ... and I sat in the 8th row center. I HIGHLY recommend seeing him. It's easy to see who was the musical heavyweight in The Eagles.
thanks Don/Guitar Center, love this clean & simple set up had a young girl at Guitar Center Salt Lake turn me on to the OCD distortion pedal, like Don says, great sound & works nice when you turn your guitar volume down, nice & clean & great tone, thanks for sharing,
this guy is one of most under rated string benders of all time. his work on "Takin a ride" is incredible. he's also a great writer as well. he builds his solos around his bends which most guitarist do the other way around. along the lines of Clapton.
Don is a real Gent and good to see him sharing knowledge. Not easy to see the actual wiring/signal path here; could it be that delay is before overdrive? In the early days a tape delay/echoplex would have been in front of a cranked amp.
The simplicity of Mr. Felder's set-up is a reminder that - as with the likes of Jeff Beck - it's a matter of the right gear in the hands of the right player. I saw Felder on the 'Hotel California' tour and as much a I love Joe Walsh (I LOVE Joe's playing), Felder outshone everyone else on stage that night. And he did it by playing for the songs - and with a great sound. His constant reference to himself ('I', 'I', 'I'... ) is a bit disconcerting but likely just the habit of someone who for years likely had to justify himself in the eyes of Henley and Frey. Also interesting that he changed the tubes in the Fender amps for something 'better'. The need for players to upgrade their Fender gear is all too common. It's a shame that these days a Custom Shop Fender - i.e., a guitar made to the specs of yesteryear - now lists @ $4 - 5,000. But that's a whole other conversation. It's great to see Mr. Felder looking and playing so well these days. He's a tremendous guitarist.
Thanks Don always wanted to know how you got those those "killer secret sounds" im reading Heaven and Hell right now and have to tell you how much i admire your grounded Southern roots, you’ve managed to stay humble as successful as you are and i wish i could say for your ex-band mates.
Its rare that a guitarist opens up about his modifications he uses. Many of them act as if there is some secret sauce to their sound they can't reveal.
I personally put the chorus before the delay. But that's because I never use both at the same time. So it doesn't matter where you put the two units in the chain. Since Don mentioned it, the chorus after the delay (if used together) makes perfect sense.
Just an awesome talent. I am only a little older than he, but I would adopt him as my son. lol. Not only a great musician, but very intelligent. This old Vietnam Veteran would really like to meet him one day before I leave this earth. If not, I will have plenty of time in Heaven to look him up. :) Does anyone know how I can get his mailing address?
I didn’t quite catch the name of the chrome guitar, is it spelled zemidis? Either way, that is a gorgeous axe. Kinda wish it had pickup covers to fit the chrome aesthetic but that’s just a personal preference. Awesome guit tho!
I have to say the more I am seeing of Don Felder the more I wanna ask why did he get axed from the band.He looks to have gotten better with age.Professional and well spoken also awesome talent.
the most under rated finger bender in rock n roll. there's a lot of them, but none like Felder. the guy pretty much innovated bending (string bending up a whole step/step and a half) sure I know, Jimmy Page, Joe Perry, what about them ? they are great guitarist, but Felder has always built his solos around bends, not the other way around. similar to Clapton. most guitarist write a solo with bending as an after thought but Felder incorporates his solos around his bending which in my opinion is magnificent.

humble ... Mr Felder, finally...finally

What a refreshingly down-to-earth guy. It's a pleasure to listen to explain his gear. No doubt, Don still has that passion to perform.
I am really looking forward to seeing him in a couple weeks!
he's not only great guitar player but a speaker and teacher too
man has done really hard stuff and, unfortunately, still living somewhere out there
Sings great too!
He taught a young TOM PETTY how to play.

It would be extremely funny to see Joe Walsh run through his rig right after Don. Very different personalities!
Great guitarists need only the simple tools to sweeten the tone, the rest is up to the player.
