  • The end of the national news, followed by the local Yorkshire Television news, from (I think) Tuesday, 10th November, 1987. It cuts in with the funeral of Eamonn Andrews, moves onto Richard Branson's great cut-price-condom anti-AIDS scheme, and schoolgirl Cathy Humphreys meets Princess Diana less than a year on from a vicious stabbing attack that nearly killed her. Alastair Stewart is presenting, of course - and check out that end credits synth ditty.
Following that, Richard Whitely, Geoff Druett and Ruth Pitt are on Calendar duty, where their stories revolve around an armed rapist on the loose, a Derbyshire bin-collection strike, the Remembrance Day bombing, a foster son allegedly being kidnapped by his real father, several houses and a lorry catching fire, a Yorkshire firm winning a lucrative Channel Tunnel contract, Sheffield's bid for the Commonwealth Games (or is that World Student Games?), a land dispute, and Doncaster Rovers considering leaving Belle Vue.
On the lighter side, one 12-year-old boy gets more than he bargained for after complaining and finds himself on work experience amongst the rubbish at the Leeds Cleansing Department, but then the highlight: possibly the daftest and most tedious football debate of all time. Joe Ashton MP is so sick of Liverpool winning the league every year that he thinks there should be a points handicap introduced. The crime? Hogging all the talent by being able to leave Paul Walsh, Jan Molby, and Ray Houghton "on the sidelines". Even the mighty Everton come in for criticism, being so rich after receiving £3M for Gary Lineker that they could turn down a bid of £700,000 for someone else. Joe Ashton MP is so angry about it that apparently he tabled a motion in parliament, and states outright that in 20 years' time handicapping will be a certainty. (That was 2007, by the way.) The best bit, though, has to be Richard Whitely stopping himself short and rephrasing midway through saying the term "sour grapes".
There's also a full ad break to enhance that retro flavour, but don't get your hopes up over the mentioned interview with Ben Elton - I'm afraid the recording cut short before that arrived.

You're going to stop receiving notifications of a lot of my uploads in the new year, even if you're a subscriber, and they won't appear in your suggested videos either. You may like to keep track here instead: twitter.com/VideotapeFTW

What was the reasoning behind that?

@@MarvinSumpter Oh, it's not my doing - it's the way UA-cam now works. I've had subscribers tell me they're not being notified of my uploads no matter what they or I do, so that's my plan B.

Calendar - The longest running ITV regional news programme to still retain it's original name. Possibly the one to have the most theme tunes too, with 4 to it's credit over the last 52 years.
Although Calendar has changed a lot since then... In fact, every day since it first started... The news is different every day! :D

Ahh what a shock the main news story is about Leeds, Calendar may not be what it used to be but you can guarantee they would find a lead story about Leeds.
