One of the different things about Telomeres… is that it just has this strong “hopeful” feel about it. It’s like you’re being carried on this wave of joy and potential… it feels like it’s describing that soul-expanding feeling of love, when it’s at its authentic best… the promise of that glimpse of light, that keeps you coming back to it - even though most of the time, it’s grounded in a pain that keeps ripping you apart..
It has all of this but then when you look up what a Telomere's function is, it leaves you with this painfully bittersweet feeling every time you listen to it.
@@zoodlebeans Yeah. I’ve been thinking about that as well. How the length of Telomeres decides how long a life will last. That it’s a certain time, and that’s it.
I could not pay attention to anything bc of Veric. Plot twist: Vessel is also the guitarist on the album. This one became one of my favorites after a while despite not really having strong ST vibes. The voice, the jazzy guitar, the DRUMS, it's like they're trying to outshine each other and we win.
Telomeres is one of the most beautiful sleep token songs lyrically, ‘Your eyes and your limbs are instruments to pick apart the distance’ ‘Let the tides carry you back to me’ gets me every time. I wish people could appreciate the lyrical complexity, it’s simple but so powerful.
I was like Kyle when I first heard Telomeres two years ago. Now? It's one of my favorites. Then again, every Sleep Token song is a favorite now. Thread the Needle has become my new repeater
I know! 🤯 that blues guitar solo is kind of what makes it so special! If I had to guess I believe that he is stronger on the piano as a writer. When I heard that guitar, I was like holy shit This guy is the most talented musician I’ve ever heard!
The speed in which I clicked on this… I love this song so much - and waiting patiently isn’t my forte. Hurrah! Edit: I spent my 20s-30s madly in love with the Deftones (Sextape specifically) - so this song hits me and calls back all of those memories. It might be an acquired taste…
It's always fun to see the other people who immediately made the Deftones - Sextape comparison like I did. I loved that song so much and there love this so much as well.
Sextape is one of my favorite Deftones songs and this song scratches that same itch in my brain and it makes me so happy Tbh a lot of their music feels like a love letter to Deftones specifically
Kyle- you broke my heart with not loving Telomeres as it was my wedding song when i got married a few months ago! I have to say, I just found your channel a few weeks ago and it has been really fun watching the both of you go through all of ST's music and watching you fall in love with them. I found ST in 2019 and was a casual fan at first, not SUPER into them but liked them well enough but then Chokehold came out last year and that is the song that made me fall in love with them. Over the last year, I went back and listened to some of their songs (over and over again) that didn't "hit" me at first and after several re-listens, I finally GOT it. So hopefully some of the songs that you aren't super into now, after some time, it may hit you out of nowhere.
The Vessel cosplay sent me 💀 I adore this song, it’s such a beautiful piece in its own right and then the way it flows when you listen to the album in order… gorgeous.
My first listen or two of Telomeres, I wasn't sold. Then at one point, months later, I couldn't get the chorus out of my head. Now I just love losing myself to the chills I get from the chorus. Btw, for those who wondered about the name but never looked it up: telomeres are the caps at the ends of chromosomes. They play a role in aging and cancer, when lost. Take what symbolism you'd like from that.
That's how it went for me too! I used to even skip it because it didn't catch me immediately, but one day on my way back home from work it came on and for the first time I really listened... and the chorus hit me like a ton of bricks. Telomeres has been my favorite ever since.
This one definitely takes some seat time to appreciate, IMO. It's a really lovely song, but definitely has its own vibe. It does grow on you though. (And I echo the note someone else mentioned below -- Vessel does everything on the albums but the drums! So guitar solo was all V-man. A wizard of a guy.)
Listening to the instrumental version of this album is a must! On your own time of course. Without the (respectfully) distraction of vessel’s angelic voice, one can really, truly appreciate the layering and the build up of sound that vessel creates in each piece. And, in my experience, better understand the stories that vessel and ii write lyrically and musically, both separately and together. Love the cosplay btw!
I had to take a hard stop when I saw you dressed as Vessel. Nice! Telomeres always makes me feel like I'm wading in small waves. The feel of the melody and even the way he sings.
I’ve been waiting on the edge of my seat for this, and you guys did not disappoint 😂😂 love it, Telomeres just hits the ears different, especially with that guitar solo
This is absolutely my favourite Token song other than Higher - pretty big nod to Loathe/Deftones in the sound. I read a lot of spiritual cosmological symbolism from this one too - the "farthest reaches", "light bends and wraps beneath us", "..as you collapse into me" all make me think of black holes after a star collapses on itself. This lends itself to the idea of rebirth and repurposing of matter in a cyclical way - and the way that all life and existence was born from star matter originally. Telomeres are the end-caps of our DNA which prevent the strands from getting /tangled up/ with each other which would lead to cells not being able to replicate (be reborn) and thus the death of the organism. "Let the tides carry you back to me, the past, the future ,through death" being yet another reference of him feeling connected to something or someone in such a way that transcends life and the physical realm. IMO this song is a huge linchpin of their discography - I hope it sinks in and grows your appreciation on the next few listens! 🫶
I knew it! I knew Eric was actually Vessel. you pull that british accent off so good in your music. keep it up with this beautiful, emotional music. the lyrics go hard.
This is by far my favourite track from Tomb with how different it is from the other stuff and it had its grip on me right from the beginning, I also love the guitar breakdown at the end
1.) I will never get enough of Eric cosplaying as Vessel! 😂 2.) Telomeres... look up what it is and what its function is. Hes singing what sounds like a gorgeous love song, while using science in the title to tell us that he knows hes so in love with her, but that he has to absolutely has to protect himself from this toxic relationship. 3.) I CANT WAIT FOR HIGH WATER AND MISSING LIMBS!!
Agreed 💯....same....this song grew on me, although it's not a miss like Kyle said, it took more than one or two listens for the beauty of it to really sink in. Now I love it 😅
Something I really love about this album is that the drumming is so awesome. Not that the drumming isn’t great on the other albums , it just seems more pronounced here
The first time I listened to this song, I also thought it was less impactful. Fast forward, and now I CRANK it and sob. Something finally clicked where it connected some wires in me, and man, the relative "simplicity" of this song is so emotional. It ain't a show pony, but it's my favorite off the album now.
Telomeres is my absolute favorite song by them.. the last part of the song I always hear the chorus of it. And this is one of TWO songs that has an actual guitar solo. I looooooooove this song lyrically as well
Was impatiently waiting for the next ST song! And Eric, epic outfit!! Lol So excited for you guys to finish the album but also sad that the journey is almost over!
Lol love the Vessel cosplay! Telomeres gives me early 2000's rock vibes. Reminds me of something from a soundtrack but not in any kind of negative way. It's cinematic to me like TMBTE.
I'm just living for Eric in his Vessel era, honestly. Telomeres isn't one of my favourites on Tomb, but I can appreciate the guitar solo and Vessel almost allowing the song to breathe by pacing the vocals. mans a genius, enough said. great reaction video as always.
Strong Deftones influence which is just amazing. 2 bands that are up on very unpopulated levels of talent, songwriting, and creating soundscapes within their songs.
This song gives me metal coldplay vibes and its super awesome. I love that I can never predict the style or road this band will take. Its just so fun and emotional and eye-opening to take this Sleep Token journey. Thank you for guiding me to this band ❤❤
This and Euclid are not only my favorite Sleep Token songs, but some of my favorite songs of all time. They are just absolutely gorgeous and, for some reason, make me feel like everything will be okay.
Another part of the lore. Very faintly on the cover of their first two albums, there were symbols that turned out to be longitudinal and latitudinal coordinates to a point in the middle of the Atlantic Ocean known as Point Nemo, which is the furthest point from any land in the world. I wonder if this is related to the lyrics, and maybe symbolic for the ocean taking him as far away from humanity as possible.
This track really grew on me the more I listed to this album. The hopeful bits make the sadder bits in other tracks that much more impactful. Slow start, but it really opens up into something beautiful by the end. The name is an interesting choice and not sure I 100% get why they chose it. But maybe it makes a bit more sense when you envision something coming into being as the track goes on.
Been waiting to see your reaction to the guitar solo. One of my favorite moments when I listened to this album the first time. Enjoyed this one and look forward to your reactions to the end of the album.
Telomeres is such an absolute love song and it's so smooth. So excited. You're getting my fave tomb song next. High Water is just uuuggghh. That song changed my life.
Me and my daughter always sing this song together while we're driving somewhere. It is a 'must-play' song for us. And sometime I cried when I listening to this song alone.
One of my absolute favorites out of all their songs, been waiting for this for so long! I wish you guys could listen to the last 4 songs of Tomb right one after another. Hyped for High Water and Missing Limbs too, if the songs at the end of Tomb don't break you, especially Missing Limbs, I don't know what will. Keep up the awesome reactions! Worship 💙

I absolutely love this song, it hits the hardest after a long day in bed just wanting to relax. This song reminds me a lot of the song "cherry waves" by Deftones.
I was not expecting Veric
😂
HaHa, love it 😂
🤣🤣
As good as it was to see Veric, I was dissappointed that he didn't have a special 'vessel' to drink his beer from today like usual
Worship veric😂
I started cackling at work after seeing Eric in full Vessel uniform.
SAME!!!!! I LOVE IT!!!
Cant help but Love these two - Create Commentary, Chill Vibes, and theyre absolutely hilarious and full of brotherly love.
You're about to hear High Water for the first time, you have no idea how jealous I am about that !
My thoughts exactly
Real
Bro same
My absolute favourite on the album and I can’t wait for the reaction!
Hot take but High Water is one of the best songs ever written. I'd trade my first born child to hear it for the first time, again.
Also. “I will go beyond the farthest reaches” Reminds me so much of “I will travel far beyond the path of reason” 🔥
Agree!!!!!
And BTW telomeres are structures on chromosomes to prevent them from becoming entangled.
Vessel loves science
Like lovers entwined 😳😳😳
To keep them separate 😢
I love how this song sounds like a beautiful love song, and he uses the title to say "I have to protect myself from this."
@lfreeman0828 This is a perfect explanation!
II has successfully made me appreciate drumming. I never thought of drums as beautiful before sleep token.
Agreed
The Vessel Cosplay is sooo amazing🤘😭🔥 And I love Telomeres, it´s just so different🫶

Love how Eric dressed up as Vessel!!! Really brought the mood in❤❤❤

It absolutely is!
What I love about this song (besides everything else about it) it’s how it really sounds like it’s underwater, that solo sounds like it’s WET
