Wow! I haven't done a premiere in about 3 years!
And I think that's not a good idea to do them
Gotta do more...We like em!
Is it possible to use the rocks to funnel the larger fish into the trap? Basically close off the other ways for larger fish to get down stream, but leave enough small holes for the smaller fish to avoid the trap.
Mash up any kind of crawfish, small minnows, worms, grubs, anything like that. Mash it up into a paste/ chum and make something to hold that chum in your trap and you should catch more fish. But nonetheless great job!
Hi Chad, are you going to upgrade the stove so you can sleep on it instead of sleeping on the floor?

Yep
This guy will survive after the apocalypse
That's a really great improvement over you last trap, Chad.
Try having the trap entrance facing up stream (other successful traps, I've seen, were placed this way Also the pieces of hide are attractors, not bait, but will attract bigger fish, thinking the hide is small fish. Stinky stuff will help too. If you make another, remember most5 of the river fish are a bit small. Make the weave at about 1/2 to 3/4 what you now have. (big enough to see through, small enough to keep them in).
Primitive fishing is hugely difficult. Any success you have is a big victory. '-)
Pas con ! Merci l'ami
Thanks for your suggestion. It's interesting though that with my first trap I faced the opening upstream and everyone told me that was wrong because river fish tend to swim upstream and the scent from the attractor will go downstream. While a tighter weave will obviously catch more fish, specifically it will prevent small ones from escaping, I really don't want the small ones. Also, that would require twice as much string which would take an additional 40 hours to make plus about 8 more hours to weave.
@@ChadZuberAdventures You are right there Chad. The face up stream works better in small streams, rather than a river. I had not considered that difference. Thanks for pointing that out
@@robertweldon7909 We are all just learning here.
@@ChadZuberAdventures ... I love how neat you got your thread ... great job ... and your narration is very pleasing ...
Чекаю новий сезон
Season 2 baaaabyyyyy!
You may need to tighten the weave of the trap.
Also, try fresher, stinkier bait. Don't ask me why but fish love stinky bait. That small sunfish would have made good bait for the catfish.
Good luck!👍🏼😊🐟🐟🐟
Oh yeah, the stinkier the better! I'm okay with the current space in the weave. I don't even want the small fish anyway. The one that escaped was lucky to find a larger gap to squeeze through.

Maybe a full net to cross the river. Not long and the flowing stream would provide dinner.
I'd love to make a long net like that and I eventually will but for narrower parts of the river because a net that big would require 2000 feet of cordage which is about 200 hours to make!
All this time I was sure desert willow is willow!
Taxonomy is strange. Botanists are always changing their classifications of plant species. There are similarities for sure.
At 1:51 when you enter your hut, we can see your pottery and other things displayed on the shelf atop the fireplace. It reminds me of the display shelves found opposite the entrance (with a central fire pit between) for the houses found at Skara Brae, the single most intact Neolithic village in all of Europe. Admittedly your home is made of adobe, not split and stacked stones, and your hearth is not centrally situated. Nor is the roof made of reeds and animal hides, and you're definitely in a desert instead of the wet, windswept Orkney Islands of northern Scotland. But there is a certain similarity, a continuity of human existence. We're going to have homes, we're going to have shelves, and we're going to put things on them, ideally organizing them so that we know what we have or what is missing at a glance.
I think your hut home is going to be very lovely when you're finished with it. I'm looking forward to seeing the tiled floor, but I know there are other things you can do, too. Have you considered finding & baking limestone, or using white ashes to create a plaster to lighten and brighten the interior? (I don't know if you have any limestone in the area; where I live, the nearest limestone is found in the San Juan Islands, if I recall correctly. It'd be a lengthy trip on foot to go get any! But I do know ashes can sometimes be a substitute for making cement, so it's not that much of a stretch to consider a limewash from them, if you can get the colors light enough.)
Yeah, I already have too much pottery. I can't even have it all on the fireplace at the same time. Haha! Tiny homes is how people lived and everything had to be simple because there just isn't room for a lot of stuff. I'm learning that as I go... Limestone, I have not found yet. There are other options to making cement though. Clam shells from the coast. I haven't made lime yet though. I tried using ashes to make lime but I was unsuccessful. I need to experiment more with that.
@@ChadZuberAdventures Iirc, Primitive Technology did a video somewhat recently on that, making balls from ashes and water, then kiln-firing them to turn that into quicklime for mortar?
@@ChadZuberAdventures Yay, super easy to find! ua-cam.com/video/eesj3pJF3lA/v-deo.html
He's working his projects in an area of Queensland (iirc) that has no limestone, just snail shells and wood ash, and no iron other than iron bacteria in the local seasonal streambed, so it's been a real struggle for him to make quicklime for mortar and smelt things. Not bad clay in his area, though!

Hahaha, they are escape artists!... No! Don't burn wood to bend it. Just heat it. I don't place it in the flames, just near them. Some woods work better than others. But this was a common practice among native tribes to shape wood for arrows, bows, etc.

Hey, it worked! I’m so glad for you and with you! 🎉 Leave it overnight or for two days next time.
About crayfish… They might still be there, as they are active at dusk. During the day they might hide between rocks, you won’t see them.
If you wish to try catching crayfish, put half of small fish inside of your trap for bait, place the trap in the water around sunset and wait untill it’s dark, couple of hours. This could be really fun night time activity too, for some full moon night.
Happy fishing!
I have not seen any crayfish yet, nor any evidence of them. I would love to find some. I suppose a simple dip net with bait in the center could work, huh? I had used that for lobster before. When I was a kid me and my friends would spear crayfish.
@@ChadZuberAdventures I have never used those, but the trap that you have used looks pretty suitable I think. I believe it is good enough to start! If you do find crayfish you can either make or modify trap with smaller opening so that the crayfish don’t crawl out.
Amazing job on this new vid Tarzan I learned a lot of ways to catch fish from you and it was nice of you to help that turtle out as well :)

Hi Chad! For passive fishing you can try the pit method. It's where you dig a trench to a pit then bait the pit and have a cut off point near the entrance to prevent them from swimming away when you check the trap. Cover it for shade. I see this method used for catfish a lot. Personally, I prefer the "bring sausage with me" technique. hahaha =D
Hey, that might work here. There are a lot of bullhead catfish that often cruise the shallows. I should try that. Thanks for sharing.

Fish traps and nets are usually set as little as possible for six to twelve hours, then you can hope for a good catch, but the turtle can rather be useful because of its armor. They can be used to make, for example, a saw or a knife.
If I were to harm the turtle the audience on UA-cam would crucify me!
Đó là một trải nghiệm thật thú vị 😊😊😊😊❤

Привет, Чад! В следующий раз, когда будешь плести сеть, делай узлы. Нити не должны скользить, иначе рыба будет их легко раздвигать и убежит!

Thanks for watching!
Make barrier walls with rock under the surface into pathways that the fish are forced to swim into. Place the trap at one end the pathway and then go to the opposite side of the water and walk with a long branch in th water to scare the fish toward the pathway. They will swim right into the trap in an attempt to get away.
Your videos have always been informative and entertaining. Thank you for being you Chad.
That is the technique I had in mind to do when I came here but the fish were not in the shallow water where the rocks are. They were only in deep water. I was disappointed because I expected to find them in shallow water like last year at this time but winter lasted longer this year so they aren't fully active yet. Maybe next time I will find them in the shallows and will be able to construct the funnel like you describe.
@@ChadZuberAdventures How deep is the deepest water? If it isn't very deep then perhaps you could use netting in deep water to accomplish what the rocks would do in the shallow water.
@@timchristensen1115 About three feet deep. Yes, netting would be excellent. But that would require about 2000 feet of string which alone would take me 200 hours to make and who knows how long to weave the net. 😂 I would be working all day every day for a month to make that!
this trap was amaizing
The other fish got away too 😂🤣😂🤣 that was funny. Please don't eat turtles 😢😢😢😢 eat the fishes only 😊 but maybe the entrance opening somewhat bigger and weave more string and cover the trap with branches. Mimicking roots from trees underwater. Well that is my idea😁
Yeah, camouflage for the trap may help. Thank you!
with the river rocks, build a bottle shape or "V" shape at the river and place you fish trap at its narrowest point facing the current. also, your design gives fish the opportunity to move inside freely make narrower towards the end of the design.
That technique will work when the fish are in shallower water.
Love your content Chad stay motivated and consistent brother 💯🙏🏾

I've made cordage out of fibers harvested from the stems of Himalayan blackberry, which are an invasive weed where I live. Including the time to harvest, clean, and ply the fibers, it took me about 10 hours to make 6 meters of cordage. I found that the best tool for cleaning the fibers were my thumbnails and by the time I was done I had notches 2mm deep on both of them.
That’s exactly what happens to my thumbnails when I clean a lot of cordage. The edge of a seashell works good too as long as it’s not too sharp.

Fish like to eat little fish and critters, so maybe make a smaller one with smaller holes specifically to catch bait-fish. If you could devise a crayfish trap, that could get more bait for fish like bullheads who prefer being on the bottom.
I have not found any crayfish here. They might exist here but I have not seen any yet. A smaller trap for catching baitfish would definitely be helpful. Hmmm, I like that idea.
Op andere UA-cam filmpjes worden takken en bladeren gelegd. Zo te zien heeft het effect. Groetjes Marjolein
That’s a great trap! I’m sure you will have success with it once you find the best spot.
Another way…. You may already know this because it’s similar to your turtle corral. You make a circle of stones that is taller than the water is deep, and leave a small opening on the side the stream is running into. Then bait the circle and weight it down. The fish will come for the bait and all you have to do is drop a single stone over the opening and they are trapped. Fish them out at your leisure with a net or your hands.
Another way… make a large flat basket, almost like a large plate with shallow sides. Make it almost as big as you can reach. Walk slowly through the stream with the basket in the water in front of you. Hold the basket vertical. When you walk up to a fish, quickly scoop it and fling it onto the bank in one quick motion. This works well once you get the hang of it and you can be more selective of your fish.❤️🤗🐝
Yes, the funnel method or making a corral with bait to attract the fish is a good idea. I originally wanted to place the trap in the shallow water and make a funnel of rocks to direct fish into the trap but I didn't see any fish in the shallows. Maybe because we had a long winter and the fish aren't that active yet. Maybe next time I can try that... The large flat basket idea to flip the fish onto the shore is a unique idea I never thought of. Thanks for sharing.
@@ChadZuberAdventures You’re welcome! Good luck fishing❤️🤗🐝
@@ChadZuberAdventures I meant to tell you, if you use the basket method, weave it with lots of open space. You don’t want any drag on it when you try to flip the fish out or you won’t be fast enough.❤️🤗🐝
@@deborahdanhauer8525 Yeah, definitely. Too much drag will reduce the speed of the flip.
@@ChadZuberAdventures good luck❤️🤗🐝
