Luke: I don't believe it. Yoda: That is why you fail. I hold that entire scene on an almost religious pedestal. The whole training sequence at Dagobah is one of my favorite, possibly most influential, cinematic moments ever.
George Lucas studied archetypes and mythical stories. He admitted that he used Joseph Campbell's Hero's Journey as basis for Star Wars and Luke's story. That's why Lucas understood so well how to make archetypal stories with strong characters, which echo over times. So YES, no wonder you used word "religious" related to this scene and Star Wars. It is strongly mythical overall.
I believe that the biggest lessons are in fiction. Because you know the whole journey of the characters (which mostly ends successfully ) but in reality life you don't know how things would end. Their eventual success makes you understand that, no matter the situation you are in that particular time, if you carry on you can have a happy ending too
I watch Star Wars when I was a kid and now I’m 56! I am currently going through dark knight of the soul (whew)! I always loved death Vader and just today.. I realized what the movie was all about! The force, letting go, patience, let go of control.. ego, gratitude etc. it was right in front of my face and I never realized it.

I learnt about filmmaking from George Lucas. The phantom menace was released in the uk the same year I was diagnosed with epilepsy and it was the first movie I watched as a kid in the cinema. It’s one of the many franchises that got the ball rolling on my dream as a screenwriter.

On the flipside without a dedicated but raw Luke to teach and pass on his knowledge Yoda would have become irrelevant and die an unfulfiled Jedi Master. In Chapter 2 of The Bhagavad Gita. There are certain passages that are called the Ladder of Fall which describe exactly what Yoda is talking about regarding letting go of attachment, fear anger etc

How interesting. I happen to pick up my green pen just before I selected this video watch, but didn't realize what I had done until the ink touched the paper! Haha! Coool! The Force is strong in this one =D. A huge fan of Star Wars I am, hence the Jedi order symbol I have tattooed on my hand....in green by the way. Yeah, I'm a nerd. The original Star Wars trilogy are stories that I hold very near and dear to me for these very reason. They were lessons, and stories that inspired me to become my very best. To tap into my light and not be afraid to let it shine. I think these Movies are messages to my future self. It my belief, that we choose things because, in many ways, our story, or the one we are writing, mirrors what we the person we want to become, and what we need to learn along the way. Not to mention the growing pains along the way. Each of Master Yoda's lessons are so valuable and powerful, and are a constant theme in mythology and the story telling of many cultures. Psychological underpinnings. The duality or balance of good and evil. The underdog who triumphs, and the coming of age story behind these amazing movies always touched my heart. The challenges George Lucas faced making them was a testament to BELIEVING in himself. If you can find it, Star Wars Bonus Material movie, I highly suggest it. It is a very inspiring film. All of Master Yoda's messages are great, but the one message that has always resonated with me and that which incorporate the most in to my life is #2. Do or Do Not, There Is No Try. I feel that trying is only a partial effort. On that same note, if you are going to do ANYTHING, always give you best.
