When I was a kid I always wanted to be a Jedi. As an adult, being the Buddhist is the closest thing to being just that. So I guess I fulfilled my childhood dream without realizing it. 😂

7 minutes in. You are close! Yoda was modeled after the Tibetan Buddhist monk Rinpoche, who was a real monk who was alive during Empire Strikes Back. He is now deceased after living into his 90’s. A very wise teacher, he was.
Many Rinpoches there are.
Including His Holiness's teachers teacher, who lives in a monastery in Cresswell Oregon. Often, a private jet lands on Eug, and a clutch of small Asian men get out, visit Creswell, stop in a Eugene Thai restaurant, and fly back again in the dead of night...

From doing research I've read that Buddha was an inspiration for Yoda.
Tsen Rinpoche was fantastic. He was only in his 50s when he died...just a couple years ago. There are many. It's a rank hon.

There is a lesson in 'Starwars - The Last Jedi'. The old Luke refused to teach Rey because he think Rey did not have what it take to be a powerful Jedi. After Rey escaped, Luke was sad and tried to burn the sacred Jedi text he kept in a cave, however, he found that he can't do it. Later the spirit of Yoda appeared and burn the cave for him. Luke watched in horror and scream at Yoda that 'the sacred Jedi text' has been destroyed. Yoda just said, "You have read them, haven't you?"
This has to do with the Buddha teaching. A religion is like a raft on a river side. You can ride it across the river to continue your journey. However, after you reach across the river, you should not think that since the raft is so useful, why not lift it up, put it on your back, and bring it with you. Just leave the raft on the riverside so that other people can use it. A religion is supposed to be a tool for us to get closer to enlightment. A (good) religion should not supposed to be a burden to its followers.

It is what originally motivated me to study Buddhism and Daoism in depth. I follow those teachings as much as i can now in my daily life. Thank you for sharing!

Heket (Heqet): In ancient Egypt, frogs were significant. The goddess Heket, often depicted with a frog head, was associated with childbirth and fertility. Frog-laden knives were placed on pregnant women’s bellies for protection, and frogs were even embalmed upon death1.

Maya Frog God: In Maya mythology, there’s a deity known as the “Frog God” or “God of Frogs.” This water deity specializes in agricultural matters3.
Ogdoad of Hermopolis: In texts from the Late Period, the Ogdoad of Hermopolis (a group of eight primeval gods) is depicted with frog heads (male) and serpent heads (female). Nu, one of these gods, is sometimes shown with a frog head surmounted by a beetle4.

Buddhism, which teaches about the mind, also teaches about the natural universe itself.
The following is from the teachings of Mahayana Buddhism.
-The space of the universe continues infinitely into large and small worlds.
-Time flows from an infinite past to an infinite future.
-The universe is governed by the law of cause and effect.
-The universe is tje world like the sand of the Ganges River.
- There are countless Buddha lands (planets of enlightened beings) in the universe.
(Heart Sutra)
-The thing that has its form is empty.
(esoteric Buddhism preaches by Vairocana Buddha, who personifies the universe)
-Man is born in the universe, so man is a Buddha in born.
- Man becomes a Buddha through compassion (mind) and wisdom (science).
(Lotus Sutra)
- Eternal Buddha, which has existed since the distant past.
(Kegon Sutra)
- A fractal multiverse where the universe exists inside dust, popy grain, and pores.
I believe Joseph Campbell famous Mythologist/ comparative religion professor was the inspiration for Yoda

This channel so far seems about 50/50... Most of my friends are meditators and or Buddhist and I have studied Eastern thought for more than half my life. This comparison to Yoda without direct references in books and graphic novels is horribly superficial and meant probably for a cool, mushroom cannabis user... Jedi were more representative of Shaolin Buddhist Monks as a
real world approximation. A very different lineage than the Dalai Lama for example. Also, Jedi were quite arrogant and obtuse as a group.
The original Buddha is depicted as a bearded white man with red hair. Not a Chinese person but an Arayan

I disagree. For some, this could be a first exposure to Buddhism. It can encourage further research.
The purpose of Buddha was for us to challenge the status quo and learn for ourselves. This was a great way to help others to think beyond pop culture.
