"And no matter what he fires at it the door doesn't go down. How funny--the door is still there. How hilarious; how highly, highly humorous" (Gene laughs)
I've been binging on all the Siskel and Ebert reviews over the past few days.....Strangely, I am beginning to "hear" Roger Ebert in my head, as I go about my day, doing whatever mundane things I have to do. But he describes my day like he is introducing the next film on the show: .. ""He's trying to get the perfect picture of a field of flowers before that field becomes the site of new condominiums; She's the new girl on the block with a passion for the flowers but just a little trouble communicating. Here, we see them getting to know each other." (Cue film clip). Does this happen to anyone else?
They both could and many have since.. The number of UA-cam channels about film that have so many more hours than this series has is a testament to that. We can praise and appreciate the clout that he had, but to diminish the work of others before, during and since is absurd.
Callum Russell if this is true I lost some respect for Ebert, unless of course he later changed his opinion on the first one as he often will re review a film.
UxCANxDOxIT why? he said jurasic park 3 was the best of the series. he said mummy 3 is the best of the series. who cares? all ppl see movies differently, but losing respect because he doesnt agree with you? fans are idiots
@@UxCANxDOxIT Ebert may like or hate a movie more as time goes on, but he never flipped his thumb. In fact, Siskel suggested an episode where they admit that their initial reviews were wrong for certain films, but Ebert said that he has never been wrong about his critiques. When Siskel brought up A Clockwork Orange, Ebert even weaseled his way out of it by saying that he had yet to see it again.
@@mania4270 If no one cared, critics wouldn't have a job in the first place. Everyone has their own opinions, but not everybody utilizes those opinions to influence the public. At one point, Siskel actually flipped his thumb while reviewing Broken Arrow b/c he knew that it's their responsibility to inform people about which movies they think are worthy/unworthy of seeing. They gained respect b/c they were generally good at it. Hell, Ebert didn't actually enjoy watching Aliens, but recommended it anyway b/c its craftsmanship deserves an audience. A critic who would recommend Speed 2 instead of Die Hard would definitely lose some respect regarding his analytical skills to determine quality entertainment. "Look in the camera and say "I was wrong about Cop and a Half, it wasn't a very good movie." "Uh no, I won't do that." "WHAT?!?" XD Gets me eevry time.
"There are three good things about this film (Catwoman), Halle Berry's face, Halle Berry's body, and Halle Berry's costumes...everything else in this movie is unbelievably bad." Well put Ebert :)
Ebert gets strike 1 for liking Home Alone 3. Strike 2 for saying it’s better than the first two. And Strike 3 billion for criticizing Gene for liking Starship Troopers. And I usually agree with Roger more often than Gene.
For the Young People- both Siskel and Ebert LISTEN to each other carefully. They don't just spout, like most (all) talking heads on television. They listen, and respond. To me, that was the charm of the show.
You know what... I totally agree, at 13:47, Roger mentions, if the movie is bad, rather than spending the next hour subjecting yourself to it, go stand in the lobby and TALK. - Or even, spend some time after the movie and talk about it with those who just saw it, y'know? Instead of just walking out of the theater and going your own merry way, why not encourage people to be sociable and express their opinions with each other on what they just saw. That would enhance the movie experience so much

12:30 they could have just sat in stony silence for two and a half minutes and then just said "thumbs down" and move on because she's all that literally had NOTHING of value to offer or say.
People don't get that it (Starship Troopers) was political commentary on how enticing fascism could be to young people and the danger of that. They thought the film was just promoting fascism.
Can you imagine these guys reviewing movies made today? Every review about every movie would be hilarious because it would be a review about the worst movie ever made
What a great film "Judge Dredd" is, wow! 8:35 - The supposedly brilliant super-cop Judge Dredd sentencing a known cop-killer, Dredd even _just_ narrowly missing a bullet from his perp's associate TURNS HIS BACK ON THE GUY AND SLOWLY PACES AWAY. For _what reason?_ effect? *MAN,* that movie was one legendary bowl of shit. This even even _reeks_ of the studio-mandated PG-13 rating to get the kiddies into those fucking matinees, as the shooting of that asshole can ONLY take places after he pulls a gun AND *_yells_* before the facing-away Dredd can shoot him. you know... JUST like in the comics!
Bijinius Cross Still, as dumb as _Judge Dredd_ is (and I agree with you that that scene is criminally stupid), it's a true guilty pleasure of mine. Especially fun is watching Armand Assante and Jurgen Prochnow chew the scenery and everything else within biting distance.
You know those guys were the best when you can watch their reviews from movies made 20 or 30 years ago and still find them entertaining.
... Huh?
Yep.
Not just that, but really bad movies from 30 years ago. It’s hilarious
I cannot believe Ebert liked Home Alone 3 more than the two Culkin pictures. Siskel likewise is flabbergasted.
In this case, he was.
the third one was pretty good. likeable but charming and funny
@@connarcowanakacliffordoneo9095 I prefer the first two, but I don't hate 3
@@Xayjohns the 3rd one is one you stop and watch for a few minutes on a Saturday afternoon when nothing else is on
This one of the rare times when siskal was right
Gene NEVER let Roger forget that he was one of the only critics to give "Cop and a Half" a positive review.
Good. Roger needed his ass kicked hard for that one.
Legend has it, they're STILL arguing about it in heaven.
Nor should he have.
Still never seen that movie to this day
benji the hunted came up a few times. Genes favorite movie was Lambada though.
"And no matter what he fires at it the door doesn't go down. How funny--the door is still there. How hilarious; how highly, highly humorous" (Gene laughs)
Gene’s reaction to Roger liking home alone 3 was exactly my reaction 😂
You can tell it's genuine too and not for the camera. He's legitimately confused while nodding his head lol. Good shit.
I'm Team Gene There
I doubt either one of them would have liked "Home Sweet Home Alone". I would love to have heard them rip that movie to pieces.
@michellelekas211 same And Starship Troopers, the first, was quite good And I'm an Oscar snob.
Two legends Rest in Peace
"Aren't your lives worth more?" Great sentiment from a great man.
"I thought the kid was generic moptop." Spot on.
I love the Siskel laugh when Ebert is Ranting about how unfunny that scene where the door will not fall down.
'Bill Cosby . . . ought to be ashamed of himself'.
Just let that sink in.
in hindsight
And he's disappointed his legions of fans.
LOL
Leonard Part 6 might still--still!--rank as Cosby's greatest atrocity.
Yes
“She’s out of control” has to be the most scathing review I’ve ever seen from them. Lol
"Are you okay?"
"Better than you were the day that you liked Starship Troopers."
love these two, so much fun listening to them
7:27 Quite possibly the scariest thing I've ever seen. Damn artefacts...
"The violence where you see a guy with a knife... It's so unpleasant"
ty for uploading. it helped distract me from thoughts of death. i liked the home alone 3 segment for how utterly bewildered siskel was
Miss these guys so much - watched almost every episode from ‘90 to ‘99

im so stoned. this is soo fucking great. i cant believe this stuff exists
The camera work during the "highly highly humourous" is near perfect. 6:15 So funny

Fucking EPIC anti-Bill Cosby rant by Ebert beginning at 6:20!!!
LMFAO
I agree, this is my favorite Ebert moment ever.
I would have loved to see Siskel give it thumbs up as a joke just to rile Ebert up even further, lol.
hahaha Holy shit he would've exploded!
Gene’s immediate reply is equally priceless
Hey SuperRod thanks for these uploads. Enjoyed them.
The description at 5:55 is priceless. How highly, highly humorous.
Cop and a half might be Roger's worst thumbs up ever. Gene was right to ask him to reconsider! LOL
The algorithm brought me back 3 years later, and I stand corrected. Roger liking Home Alone 3 over the original is his worst take ever! 😆
@@ilovebrandnewcarpets I don't know he liked speed 2, both of them did for some reason
Dang, that last clip about Siskel's funeral is kinda sad now.
I like that from 6:20-7:20 ebert’s face slowly glitches out and by the end he looks like he’s in a full face of makeup
man! in retrospect, I feel that gene siskel was way WAY more on my wave length than ebert! holy smokes!

Freaky "transformation" of Ebert at 5:55 and 7:00, thanks to slight video difficulties!
LOL That was really something. But I prefer a little earlier when he goes: "And the violence, the violence.." looks like he's almost about to cry.
I love Siskel's little snort at the mention of mind-controlled rainbow trout.
Roeper always looks like he's listening to a movie review class taught by Ebert
YOU SEE A GUY WITH A KNIFE

This made me laugh so hard. He builds up the violence so much and peaks with a guy holding a knife.
Well, it wasn't Simpson in that film.
at 14:27 there's sad moment when they joke about what to say at Siskel's funeral.
