Thanks for such an illustrative video. I just got my Jetta with 170,000 miles and has a ticking sound on that area. Besides what you did on this video would you recommend me replace head gasket or clutch since I’m gonna be already there ? Thanks again
What has you stuck? This isn’t a good place to write detailed instructions on removing the transmission. Tell me your problem and I should be able to help.
Remove axles. Remove wires remove hoses remove bolts remove transmission.. take lots of pictures and keep all bolts in their respective orders. Cardboard cutouts were bolts are placed to simplify reinstallation does wonders. Reinstallation process begins before youve even removed one bolt.
@@Joefred77 yes, it was a very unkind choice. In theory, they did this to shorten the engine so it could fit in a four cylinder car, but in practice, the timing chain still needs to exist and take space. Pay special note to the fact that the flywheel bolt holes are OPEN. I have a fun story about how I learned that the hard way. You cannot put any oil in the engine until the timing cover is installed and the flywheel bolts are in.

It’s a lot of work to get to the chains, so I would replace anything that appears to need upcoming maintenance.

This iob is a whole lot simpler 👍 with the Engine out the Car!
how many miles did u have when u started this 😂. just wondering
Roughly 180k. I bought the car with “the chains done.” I guess the seller meant done as in finished, not done as in completed.
what were the stock cams
I don’t know the code, but they were stock MKIV 12V cams.
