    Mechanical breaks require a lot of pedal force to make them work. The longer the break pedal the greater the pressure can be exerted to the break pads. A long moment arm (long break pedel) is needed to use mechanical breaks or a 225 lb strong person driving. The rear hydraulic breaks system should stop the car but could go into a skid real easy.

    • @i8ntnuts
      @i8ntnuts 2 роки тому +1

      I don’t think he will use the rear brakes. That would require rigging up a master cylinder. Pretty sure that’s beyond the scope of this project

    NHRA dragstrips have rules that forbid a solid mounted rear end on a car like this.
    Chad should get a copy of the tile rule book as there are many other things on the car that would not pass an NHRA tech inspection.

    Mechanical brakes !!? Cool . I assume it takes a good bit of foot pressure on the pedal to slow this rig down. I work at a bicycle shop for 23 years and I have worked on really old English bikes that have mechanical brakes using linkages instead of cables. This way there are no cables that can stretch and freeze up from corrosion. Simple and efficient. Pretty cool.

    When I was a kid, we bought a shop in Tyler Texas and a side stall was filled from top to bottom with brand new mobile home wheels and tires. The wheels were held on like the front wheels on this race car. However, they were oddball 14.5" wheels/tires. The guys next door had an ornamental iron works and they owned and built hotrod VWs on the side and they had VW centers welded into some of these rims and all of their Baja Bugs had 14.5" trailer tires. It was a hoot. They had some that were just floor pans with a hoop to hold the steering column and we'd drive them (even though not street legal) to Kilgore on a beer run (Smith County was a dry county).
