    "the dumber you look the better you sound" LOL
    massive respect to Chris for not using triggers. I do get the necessity of triggers for extremely fast double bass consistency but I feel a lot of metal players use this argument as a crutch for why their raw, unedited drums don't sound good.

    • @diemunkelheit7477
      @diemunkelheit7477 3 роки тому +6

      As a metal drummer I can co confirm that at a certain speed you can’t put your whole power into each hit. First it’s waaaay to fast, second it’s way to exhausting. Just compare KIRMHs fastet double bass with ken bedenes or Kevin paradises. The last two one use trigger due to high speed. Well KIRMH does too, but his technique.. fffs you have to consider quite a few things. Speed, technique and effective power . If that makes any sense

    • @xenophagia
      @xenophagia 3 роки тому +3

      @@diemunkelheit7477 Exactly, it all comes down to technique. I have seen quite a few drummers accomplish very high speeds with solid power, not using triggers. I don't use triggers and I manage a pretty good speed/power ratio. Of course there's those levels of speed where you're going to start losing power, but thats where your dynamics come in, knowing how to mic your kick correctly and the whole band having a good mix/dynamics. I'm sure you know all of this though. Either way, I don't knock triggers or drummers that use them. There's tons of logical reasons to use them. They're not really a crutch like a lot of people think, and I can't help but get a bit annoyed when you get those people that don't know anything about triggers, flat out say it's cheating to use them.

    • @t.j.luther9970
      @t.j.luther9970 3 роки тому +5

      Dude, I completely understand this feeling. I used to get that feeling all of the time, but as I grew more and more as a musician, and gained a deeper and deeper understanding of music both technically and emotionally, this feeling became less and less existent. I myself am a pianist trying to get into drums, and I'm assuming you're a drummer, but despite our different choice of instruments, I feel that this information will ring true to you as well. I've thought about this specific feeling a lot, and I think that it's a mixture of both the amazingness and pure awe that's gotten from listening to such amazing music, as well as the feeling of inadequacy to such amazing musicians. But as you learn to play for yourself and not care how good you are, it gets a lot easier to improve as a musician. But anyway dude, this is just my two-cenrs on your comment, because it striked my interest a lot! I hope you have a wonderful day Drakaus Dromgatti! Best wishes!

      @TheLemonKiller 3 роки тому +2

      @@t.j.luther9970 In the simplest of terms it's a language.
      When you learn to speak you learn the letters.
      What letters make what words.
      How the words work together to form sentences then paragraphs.
      As time goes on you naturally start manipulating things into your own speech and slang.
      It's the same with music.
      You find YOUR sound and just go with that.
      Your body/hands are the tongue and your instrument are the mouth.
      You get to a point where you move from thinking about how to go about something.
      To thinking about what you want to have happen and just allow it to without any worry about this or that.
      Sometimes you might trip up a bit and maybe you'll accidentally say something you did mean to but it ultimately came out in a way you didn't think.
      If you slip up you just play it off like it was meant to happen.
      Otherwise, you'll fall out of the flow and once that happens and you try and try to force yourself back into it.
      The song will just seem to be un-catchable and like you're constantly a slight bit behind.
      You're basically trying to translate something in your head in a different way than what seems natural because you're using something that's an unnatural extension of your being.
      When you walk you don't watch your feet or think about how to move your leg.
      Same with when you want to start running.
      You just do it.
      Even when you're walking across rocks.
      You find and look for your footing using your feet and not so much your eyes.
      You get to a point where you don't really need to look at the instrument and just have a general idea as to where it is you want or need to go and just let your hands go there.
      The biggest thing about drums is that they're exactly like all other instruments.
      Their notes just happen to be a little different.
      That cymbal crash or that snare hit or whatever lands in that spot because that's where it was supposed to.
      Same with regular notes when held out or when there's a rest in between.
      I mean, you're basically painting with time instead of decorating space.
      Musicians in most cases are the only creators that constantly recreate their creations over and over again.
      The biggest thing.
      You HAVE to practice to a metronome being because you'll get used to the click so much that at some point the click will start to feel and seem slower.
      You also HAVE to practice things very slowly until you're able to play it to a near perfect extent.
      Then you can start speeding it up till you're able to play it well.
      Then when you learn the phrase you can start adding in the different little variations and things you want where you wish to flourish things or whatever to add that little something.
      So it's not like you're just speaking something all monotone.
      The biggest thing.
      You never see people's practice and fall.
      You see the result of such things so never compare yourself to another.

    That was an epic video, man! No wonder your channel is blowing up so quickly. And goddamn...Chris's solo stuff is insane. The whole track was just surprise after surprise, like it's Christmas already. The way he comes in on the intro and all the transitions into the next riffs are super clever and builds up the hype throughout the track, and I can't forget to mention all those tasty fills either. Each one had me going "whoa! wtf!?" and rewinding multiple times to figure it out. All the riffs were dope and the guys you have doing session work for you seem to be doing a great job bringing your ideas to life (I've gotta sing most of the guitar parts I come up with too🤣). I dig the overall feel and concept he's got going on. Those dirty trap and old Triple 6 Mafia style beats mesh really well together with heavy/rhythmic/groove style drumming and riffs. I really relate to and appreciate what Chris is doing here because my heavy/rhythmic/groove based drumming has been heavily influenced by old Triple 6 Mafia and other hip-hop artists in that same sphere, from the instrumentals, to the patterns/flow of the vocals and wordplay, to the overall attitude and dark/heavy themes. For over a decade now, a major portion of my practice has been grooving/experimenting over Three6/other artists beats, and surprisingly, the solo stuff I've been doing is actually pretty similar to what he's doing in a lot of ways...but Chris is just on another level. The dude is a monster. Can't wait to hear the album and maybe see some future video collabs with you guys again. Oh, and I highly reccomend to just about every drummer to practice your grooves and just experiment over different hip-hop beats from time to time. Its a lot of fun and you end up developing all kinds of cool new skills, fresh outlooks on your playing, and all kinds of new avenues opening up to you. So give it a shot sometime if you haven't already, and have fun! Sorry for the novel btw, I just can't help but get really stoked on this stuff🤘.

    I've noticed that for me as well, raising your drumseat (or throne if you prefer) can help with bass pedal speed, and more importantly, longevity/ sustainability (being able to do 64th notes for minutes straight,etc)
