Sepultura's Max & Igor Cavalera say metal scene now as good as 30 years ago | Aggressive Tendencies
Вставка
- Опубліковано 4 січ 2017
- Max and Igor Cavalera, once of Sepultura, explain why they chose to recreate 'Roots' live and how they pulled it off. Igor explains how seeing FLAG (members of Black Flag) inspired him, then the brothers talk about younger, boundary-pushing bands who inspire them further, such as Full of Hell, Nails and Homewrecker. They also talk about tape trading with bands like Mayhem, Death, Morbid Angel, Kreator and more, and how the search for new bands is very similar. October 11, 2016.

Max and Igor are HUGE influences for extreme music.
holy shit Max isn't wearing camouflage must be a laundry day lol I love these guys
I believe that he has camo underwear :P :D
Vlado Eliaš lol true you watched that gear vid to lol
Funny comment, cool profile picture and great fucking name. One of my favorite Sepultura songs
Igor is the most underrated metal drummer out there.
Such a legend!
Music's forever a protean, and evolving. You can't stay in the same "closed" mindset if you're going to change, adapt, and evolve with it. Open your minds people!
They should do an "arise" tour as well!
Innerself, I know Max can't play the guitar, most of the times he has only 4 strings on his guitar. But to me they are still heroes. "beneath the remains", and "Arise", are two of the best death metal albums ever.
I would love to see that, but I'm afraid that Innerself is right, Max is quite old for that
I listen to that album front to back prolly twice a week for over a decade.
anna elvira postma death metal? Its thrash metal
I'm so happy after all these years they never lost their accent, super cool guys.
YES! I'm So happy to hear this I'm playing again with even more passion
Damn..!!now i feel old..listen to their music since i was in junior high school
awesome interview, Love these guys!
GREAT INTERVIEW!!!!
Hey thanks! Good job at the show ;)
is cavelera conspiracy going to tour California soon ...
You crazy son of a bitch! Saw you in Louisville KY! Keep it going man 👍🏻
Beatles had one Yoko Ono. Sepultura had 2.
damn..this is the best comment ever ever ever!
If Gloria is one who is the second? Andreas?
you!
+The Electrocist Laima Leyton. She were jealous about Monica Cavalera (Iggor's ex-wife) working with Sepultura and told him: "You choose: Sepultura or Me." hahah that's true man!
i honestly feel kinda bad for gloria
Why do some people insist on splitting into factions? These dudes are fucking legendary show some god damn respect. We're all brothers in metal.
Hell yeah. Legends, indeed.
fukn true legends !!!
such humble legends...man just the musicianship is amazing, they are beautiful human beings.
Humble? Your kidding right...the Hate Sepultura 2022 why Hate? and Max wife Gloria the drama queen if you knew the History
I love their attitude, been a fan of theirs since I heard Desperate cry on late night TV in the UK in late 1992. Maybe because my tastes have changed (or broadened to other styles) but when I need a metal/thrash fix I still go for the bands I listened to in the 90's. Maybe I'll search out some newer stuff too.
Such a great, wholesome interview from two legends of not only heavy music, but music in general. Thanks for all of these great interviews from bands I actually want to hear from. I'm surprised you haven't done a Full Of Hell interview yet, but I'm sure it'll come in time ;)
Thanks so much! We did Full of Hell back when Aggressive Tendencies was just a subseries to our Exclaim! TV channel. I am aiming to get them on again when they come through on tour with Cattle Decapitation, Revocation and Artificial Brain (a tour we are sponsoring!).
Keen to see it!
Cheers! Here's the old one (from before I took over!): ua-cam.com/video/hbaRgm2PdCI/v-deo.html
I got to see them this February, it was a cool show
Max wearing a Converge ‘When Forever Comes Crashing” shirt 👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Two of my metal idols... Great interview!
Thanks so much!
Igor representing Cleveland with the Integrity shirt!
I'm surprised I wasn't wearing my Integrity hoodie...wear my 'Humanity Is the Devil' one everywhere!
Cleveland HC >>>
After all those years since i was 13 been hearing max in igor in loveing it
Metal legends for both their roles and they're brothers and in the same band
Welcome to the Croatia again!!!
I wonder, when was the last time Max shaved. So good to see these guys together again. My first tattoo was a Sepul Tribal S.
It is true that the two of them look like a before and after for homeless person rehabilitation.
Philip Whitehead Dude, solid 10 second chuckle! XDDD
Cool man, When I was a kid I wanted that tribal S so much and I got one of those fake tattoos that peal off later cause my mom didn't allow a real tattoo. Lucky me it was a fake one because the idiot put it backwards on my arm. LOL
I see Igor at this interview and now I know I got old :-D
still today my favourite
I'm so glad I was at the Brixton Academy gig in 1997, the last ever show with the original line up. I remember it was sold out and the whole venue was going mental. To me 90s metal crowds seemed to have more energy and had a rawness about them. The band had a ton of energy that evening, it almost felt like there all knew it was their last gig together.
LIVING LEGENDS! CAVALERA BROS! SICK!
Goddamn right!
Exactly
legends. 1985-89 is the best period ,the 90's was not for me.. but still Nice to see these guys interviewed. Same spirit as the old days
guys help! what does that "wheel" symbol mean on the roots artwork?
Max should take 1 sabbatic year to get healthier and breathe a little bit... I saw 2 concerts of them last year an fuck... He deserves it.
XDieterX Null agreed
Roots is so easy to pay. I wanna see they paying Arise.
Check out our friends at Banger...next week (Wednesday at 4 pm EST), they're doing a livestream debate on the best Sepultura album. Details here: ua-cam.com/video/GJSssaNmG_o/v-deo.htmlm31s
*play
When I first heard Nails first thought.. Cavalera Brothers!
Geniooos
Please an arise/beneath the remains tour!!
OH BABY!
hahaha no way, only if eloy and andreas play and max sing 1-2 song... max is to lazy for playing.. to old to cold.
And they just did it ! Didn't they ?!?!? I just attended this venue 2 days ago. Brutal !!!!
MORBID VISIONS OR SCHIZOPHRENIA LIVE , THAT JUST ME
@@sguerilla6142 and who's singing? Derrick? He knows like 15% of the lyrics and he doesn't know how to manage the audience
iggor, you are one bad ass drummer
Damn right!
They are both fans of those fans of their music, that's going to be a good thing IMO
COOL!
Hey, Igor and Max, Jinjer and Infected Rain are good new bands! Try to hear they.
Good interview
Thank you!
NP!
there are some great bands out there I love them all but Fates warnings newest album theories of flight. is very inspirational
I saw Sepultura on the roots tour With Fear Factory Korn Flotsam and Jetsam I think Megadeth got the headline I'm not sure been to a lot of shows ended up playing soccer with Sepultura totally awesome nice guys humble down to earth
Jeff loomis and Keith Merrow are coming up with some sick shit!
I could not agree more. Today is as good, or better than the "glory days". As a 52 year old metal head, I can say it's easier today to find great metal than it's ever been, thanks to youtube, itunes, spotify etc etc. \,,/
What do you think recommend? I can’t find anything
i would totally go again
Roots my opinion sound best Sepultura sound ever, roots is damn underrated but however it's legendary album what they ever did, it's heaviest album but i don't know exactly heaviet album what is ever made, it feel overrated already but i love it heavy sound and roots bloody roots is at least one a masterpieces songs what they ever did, song is really furious shit, my opinion Max's best performace ever, he is really maniac
converge & integrity shirts.. 💯🙏
Too tired to comment something creative for everyone today so I'm pasting this: Well, sunny boy, sit back and let me tell you a story. It was the best of times, it was the worst of times. On a dark and stormy night I had awakened from the shadows of a deeply engrossing slumber, the dark period was about to end and bestow upon us all that which we had waited for. The resurgence, the revolution! Metal was all but a lost concept, relinquished to the backs of our minds, grunge had come and gone like a flash of a sprite in the upper atmosphere or a quark in space but we knew there had to be more....more art, more Punk, more Crunch, more strings, more phat phunky bass and 808 kicks in our subwoofers! First came Max Cavalera and his new sound and mission learned from the masters of the Floridian underbelly where he taught these kids to play and produce and let them loose on what would become the "great one's" Leaving us a legacy to carry through the years and bestowing upon us all the likes of Metal, a Nu-Metal you might say, one we hadn't heard that was similar but different in someways. Like the dawning of a child who shares your passion but with a new fury. The dawning of Mudvayne, Slipknot, System of a Down and Static-x... the Dawn of Hed PE and Limp Bizcut and Korn was being heard by the youngin's and I knew it was then I could die happy in the knowledge that the future was secure and the knowledge that metal would not take the way of the dinosaurs but would evolve and grow and just like Bruce Lee said, that Metal would "Be like the Water"! So let it be written, so let it be done, ashes to ashes, dust to dust. */w\SlayeriZer/w\*
nice converge shirt on max!
Right?! They like great music.
não tem tradução em português?

He said Todd from Nails! So the band is Nails.
Oh wow, Nails! thanks a lot dude!
No problem, thank you for watching!
Max is wearing a SARCÓFAGO tshirt! Coool!
It's a Converge shirt!
Look Arise's videoclip, when they were young, so thin, skinny, and look at them now
That's what happens when people grow older: their metabolism gets worse! Haha.
Every song but Jasco from videos I've watched.
i saw S born here in Brasil
"oOoOh, tHe gLorY dAys' Fuck the glory days! This is the glory days right now." LOL
Integrity tshirt!!Sick!!
Hell ya. Dudes like awesome music!
Fuck yea! Sepultura and soulfly gods!!! Hell yeah ! Fucking horns up for them both!! \m/, max came to the Navajo Nation Fuck yeah!!
Demonhera do caralho 👏👏👏 parabéns
fuck yea love soulfly sepultura and cavaleras this is a great interview and all the music they done will always remain in my roots too they play awesome live and yea max is getting older but u guys bitch about the weight and looks just listen to the music and it's all thr nailbomb is fun sick live poha
Man, I'm so stoked for that Soulfly plays Nailbomb tour!
someone show me some thing new pls, still in the good old days
Shit this can be said about most things not just music. Hell even quality of things built is the same where things in the past you could throw it down a flight of steps and it works but drop something now 5 inches from the ground and its a wrap.
I hate to say it but I like both Soulfly & Cavalera Conspiracy more than Sepultura. Max is basically they "Metal" version of Chris Cornell as in, if you see Soulfly you're gonna get songs from Nailbomb, Soulfly, Sepultura, & Cavalera Conspiracy. Just like Cornell when he is solo he does Temple of the Dog, Solo, Soundgarden, & Audioslave. All I'm saying is that you get the entire library. (other artist or bands would be Eric Clapton or Dio)
A lot of people will crucify you for that opinion, but I respect you for saying it knowing that. Thanks for watching!
Old Sepultura is a a pillar of Metal Scene. Chris Cornell is a gay versión of.... well, a gay versión of Chris Cornell. No comparsion. Kiddo
jojojo you have guts men, i metal fan but cornell was a great rock musician
Let's actually say it right: now is way, waaay better than before, so much more choice and, with internet, the opportunity to find talented artists without having to spend a fortune (as we all -grown ups- used to do back in the days, sic), not to mention that metal has so much more relevance in media now, indeed slayer on national tv was a dream when they started, moreover so called metalcore bands have millions of views here (and I wouldn't exactly regard them as "popular/commercial" music you know...) let's just hope that the elitist, I am so pure and underground attitude between metal-poser-heads will finally die out once and for all...peace
What bands you listen to now?
Sorry Igor....they we're NOT kicking your ass! YOU are a god of metal percussion.!
It's better right now than it was in the 2000s for sure, but not better than the 70s 80s or 90s. Not even remotely close.
Tour w harms way soia and wisdom in chains
Don't get left behind....
cadê renovação musical
escreve cavalera conspirancy no google e voce acha
Who the fuck gives this a thumbs down?
originators fuck the the present sepultura i do like the new new machine messiah record but roots was u and igor brotha much love one respect if it wasnt for that record idk where the fuck i would be witbout the original two brothers like vinnie and dimebag i wish i could honestly do look around with you monitos
Cavaleras are legends!
Mulher e dinheiro, dinheiro e mulher quanto mais você tem muito mais você quer.....
Sepultura will never be the same after schizophrenia
Cool american accent from igor.
Some of the most classic metal albums of all time were coming out 30 years ago. Today...I don't think so. Sure there is 'good' stuff today, and will be remembered as 'good,' but not great. Metal is riding on the fumes of decades past. The best, most interesting and talented metal today is usually made by underground bands that don't tour.
Metal took a turn for the poseur for a good decade at least, but has always and will always exist in the underground, emerging every so often if only to show the music art how soft it is and set the world aright again. It's not a new invention, so it's not like it's about to take the world by storm. Though the attitude may be there, and is essentially crucial for it, Metal is niche genre art. The standouts of Metal have always stood out & will always stand out. The Black scene killed the genre. Black Metal essentially killed itself. But thankfully, it had kids. Hopefully, they will manage to further evolve the art. Basically, we'll need a pop Metal scene for the real Metal to emerge & masticate the poseurs once again.
Perverto Romantico totally agree with you dude .
new bands these days might be good but that's it . Nothing compares to the stuff metal bands were doing back then . so epic a classic full of inspiration.
Nobody's making music with the same energy and passion as the metal bands from the 70's or 80's or 90's for that matter. music today while some may be good it doesn't inspire you.
Here's some suggestions that I feel you might dig: While She Sleeps - You Are We, Shadow Of Intent - Reclaimer, Lorna Shore - Flesh Coffin, Persefone - Aathma and Fit For An Autopsy - The Great Collapse.
Come on you old wet farts, there are most definitely future classics being dropped all the time nowadays, you just gotta get out of the nursing home and go find them. Quit being lame.
Check out power trip, it'll take you back 30 years ago
no paulo no andreass no sepultura
"fing".
*sigh* Max sounds so bad on stage now it makes me sad. He should explore other projects and preserve the legacy of the original music. Dillinger Escape Plan is going out on a good note instead of dragging it out forever until they sound tired...
I like what he did with Killer Be Killed. But I agree, his performances are sub-par. Sad, really.
yeah he sounds great in the studio, it's the live performances that have really gone downhill
Dustin Ruth I totally agree, in fact I think that Max should have a sabbatic year to rest, exercise, lose weight and rest his voice since this very moment does not stop being on the road and his projects sound the same (I'm diehard fan ever)
They need to just take Sepultura back. That's their fucking band. They formed it.
Oh baby.
i love that iggor doesnt cover himself with rings or dyed hair, and doesnt try to take up the new "lingo"
max...i fucking love you, but come on
ahahahah Ridicoli
666
sell this "back to the roots" is bullshit, no band can be as good (or as bad depending which) as years back... that was their idea also for the reunion, and giving to that, i prefer a Machine Messiah tour set than full Roots set by miles...
Max’s hair is nasty
Vile Denial that shit must itch
You sleep with him? Why care to much about this?
Max and Igor are a different kind of heavy now...shame!
You heard the new Cavalera Conspiracy songs coming out? Serious throwback to early Sepultura!
2 fats, and andreas and paulo jr are thin and andreas never gets old. HAHAHA
Get a hair cut Max..
Roots fucking sucks.
they are too fat. These guys need to have a strong diet
Sergio Pontes igor is fit dude, yoked. look at him playing live
big boned and very muscular tanks
