- Ever since 1984, MAX CAVALERA has been constantly reinventing his musical craft, and in order to be able to reinvent himself he's had to make some drastic changes to his life and his lifestyle. While it was his work with the mighty SEPULTURA that helped him become an International Metal Superstar, MAX has proven through his additional work with SOULFLY, CAVALERA CONSPIRACY and KILLER BE KILLED, that his musical abilities are extremely multidimensional.
Speaking of CAVALERA CONSPIRACY, their NEW album is called 'Pandemonium' and it's available now via Napalm Records!
We recently met up with MAX at Idle Hands Bar in New York City to talk about his NEW book entitled 'My Bloody Roots: From Sepultura to Soulfly and Beyond' (available now), and while talking in-depth about his book he confessed to us what it took for him to overcome his alcohol addiction and how long he has been sober for. Additionally, he shared some stories of how he managed to piss both LEMMY from MOTÖRHEAD and Eddie Vedder from PEARL JAM! He gave us an update on what the future of KILLER BE KILLED is looking like.

He looks so honest and easy going. You can easily tell that he loves music and enjoys what he does. That is why when you go to a Soulfly show is all an experience!
ViAaRo seen soulfly and cavalera conspiracy over a hand full of times and I swear each time I saw them the pure energy was greater than the last.
+Robert aguilar I saw them recently in Manchester, UK, and it was probably one of the best concerts I've been to. I wish I could see him reunite and play with Sepultura though.
Hats off to Max here, what a great attitude he has towards doing an interview. Others should take note of how a true professional does it.

Awesome. Interesting interview. Great to hear Max talking about refusing to grow old. Same here. I'm going to be 40 next year and even though my body and my life have changed, I still feel the same as I did during the days of my youth. Long life, health and well wishes to Max.

I believe we all fight it! We remember when we were young and how much fun we had and never want it to go away. Though we have to show the world and our children how we are responsible grown ups but if they only knew what we are thinking. Those days are not gone they are locked inside of us and we hold the key 🤔 wondering what if.
I like Max, we were born at his same hometown, I didn't meet him, but I know he's a good person and he loves rock and roll!
I saw CC live a couple months ago, and when they came out they reeked of weed. He was also singing the songs in a super chill voice as well.
Alcohol and drugs may be a reason why Max has aged the way he has. In recent months he's started to look in better condition but I've seen first hand through relatives how alcohol can affect you.
Oh yes trust me. Im 22 atm and look washed up af even though ive been sober for 3 months now.

I put my ands in every single cd that I had seen that max is and its a lot counting sepultura, soulfly and other's..'its one of the reasons I tattoo a soulfly symbol in me...so many years listening that guy and bands influenced by max that it becomes part of me SOULFLY TRIBE

Grew up with Sepultura and am the same age as Max. Stopped drinking 15 years ago. So, i think, he stopped drinking to late. The brain gets damaged for sure. After seeing the interview it's sad to see what the alcohol made of him. Met them after every concert i attended back in those days. He made jokes about drinking and we laughed.
Leaving Sepultura was the best decision for everyone! The fans got two great bands now. New talented musicians got the light they would probably never get (Eloy C., Derrick G., Marc R., Joe N., Roy M.) Sepultura could reach other persepctives with Andreas at the wheel of the ship, now. Max also could try new territories with Soulfly wich got popular as well.
the Big 4 - should boot out Anthrax and put Sepultura in! they were the only band in my opinion to be more aggressive than SLAYER - all the death metal around- still doesn't have that aggression like Igor and Max

I saw Soulfly last year in Stafford CT..Really small Venue... The smoking section was out back on these strange catwalks and the dressing room was right next to us...When the door opened a HUGE plume of weed smoke came out of the dressing room and out stepped Max Cavalera...When I walked past him I got to say whats up to him and trust me, He wreaked like weed..Granted I did not smoke with him but I did get to smoke with Zyon before the show (which I didn't know was him until he got behind the kit at the beginning of the show )
So I can't say for sure Max Is a burner but at the very least he has no problem being around it...I just assumed he burns also if his son does
