It's adorable, serious and funny at the same time
interesting combo
And of course cringe as hell
Oh hi vo
And will take food out of some ppl's tables
Yep ... really well done. Full marks for their PR people. Important stuff lurking behind this too.
I honestly hope they roll with this and make dancing a mainstay feature. It most certainly has great psychological benefits in making robots less intimidating. I think mainly because dancing, as seen by humans, is a purely expressive form of movement. That being said, the dance routines could be used as self-diagnostic test maneuvers.
Ayyy listen to that guy Carlos 👌
They could have it teach humans to dance by shooting at their feet! 😃
Imaginr Terminators dancing and killimg humans.
I want my slaughtering robot to do so while keeping in rhythm. It'll make my medicine so easy to go down.
pretty sure the dancing is a feature they ship with. My school (somehow) has one, and I got a friend to show it off to me once and basically there was a preprogrammed dance in there. It's even stranger in person
Can we also take a moment to appreciate the actor playing Murray? His character is super relatable - we'd all treat Spot like a dog and hope for that little dance. The guy not only sells that perfectly, he's also incredibly light on his feet.
Nice comment. Totally agree! he gets my respect.
I love that he offered bolts/nuts as treats haha
Nah dude. It's gonna beg for memory chips 😁

I like Boston Dynamics. Aside from the revolutionary robot technology, the videos are not just entertaining but informative and interesting. In this they show that these robots are designed to be used for mostly industrial maintenance, they arent fully A.I operated, which is a misconception I've seen a few people have, and still shows some of the cool thing's these are capable of. That's the proper way to market your product. It's everything you need to know wrapped up in one three minuet video, with no lies or grand promises. Boston Dynamics are one of the real ones. I'd say, if you're a futurist interested in robotics, look no further than this channel. This is the only place I've seen REAL robots doing insane feats. The strides these guy's have made in the last eight years has been mind blowing. Keep it up guy's.
It also gives us a little insight of how irrelevant people will become in the near future.
Exactly! The behind the scenes of the Atlas parkour video was great at showing what goes into making them look like they're moving on their own. It was also funny when they didn't get it right and they lost balance or fell, looked like drunk people :))
well if they are primarily controlled by humans then wouldn't they technically be Mechas? If that's the case, I hope they built a giant Big Dog and Spot combination, paint it red, and name it Mecha Clifford.
I think they can be made completely automated for simple tasks with the QR code panels.
They _can_ be automated with either QR code based AI, or by writing and implementing your own code (look at Michael Reeves and his beer robot). But yeah, they aren't fully automated right out of the box.
That's how advertising should be - honest, informative, and entertaining. Well done!
There is nothing honest about this commercial. The robot is portrayed as more reliable than the silly human.
@@thamieklybodonmi We did not watch the same commercial: the robot was portrayed as reliably assisting the silly human.
Very honest, and entertaining indeed
@@MelloCello7 we did, you just missed the part where the robot was being harassed by the human while trying to do its job. it is subtle and tends to play in the humoristic side of the commercial, but it is there. and i'm guessing that this will be how all human replacing technology will be advertised in the not so distant future: silly, failable humans being helped by much more reliable robots. kind of like all the silly dad commercials that made fun of men until today's age of women in control of everything came to be. hope i'm wrong.
@@thamieklybodonmi It is honest, you may not like the message, that's a different thing...

Still blows me away how organic the movement of these bots are.
Organic kinda, smooth yes.. But so fast it looks like CGI
@@Ryrynz2000 that’s because the last part with the dance is CGI. Still a good robot though for what it does in the rest of the video.

You guys have come such a long way
They should put those dance scripts for download so that people can have a dancing robot too
The license for that software is $10,000 annually
@@stevenhong7099 is it?

Everyone loves the dancing robots.
Let's appreciate the fact, that this dude is one hell of a dancer, too. :) Lovely.
They cast the right guy for this
DEFINITELY. 😆😆😆🖤🖤
It’s so cool just how much better Spot’s movement and agility became since the Uptown Spot video
You can see they appear to have much quicker movements now in those little side hop slide things they do which I don't believe has been seen before.
I love how it leaped in the air and repositioned all of its legs without contacting the ground, very organic and incredibly impressive
@@thedeviantguy indeed!
Man, when they start dancing, they move so smooth it's hard to believe it's not CGI.
it is CGI
@@smiddynshit provide an explanation of why it’s CGI, like errors that they made. Because even the most high budget movies can never get CGI perfect.
To start with from aroun 1:50 the obvious fake lighting. But look at the shadows of the two dancers, there are two big lights behind them and yet each of them only casts one very sharp shadow in each direction (and opposing direction). Not to mention if they were filming they would be lighting from the camera side. But its most obvious from the 2:00 mark the rapid foot movement has an unnatural sliding effect. Not to mention the textures especially the floor are clearly fake. Just compare it to previous Boston Dynamics videos, there is a clear departure.
@@smiddynshit for the rapid foot movement having a sliding effect, I take it you have never seen spot in real life. Because that is exactly how he moves. I understand the lighting thing though, but also, they did have shadows reflecting the lights behind them. And what would that matter, you really think they cg’ed the human guy, why would they fake the lighting, or the floor, when it wouldn’t be necessary for just comping in a robot and adding shadows. It’s obvious they had more than just two lights pointing toward them.
@@mocapcow2933 So you are claiming you have seen spot do these type of dance moves in the flesh?
I call bull shit. When did you see this? I'm not claiming that there is not an impressive spot drone; but that this video in particular is fake. You are making an argument from authority that you have seen this in real life but ; lets be honest , you haven't. I have done some work wit 3d modelling and rendering and follow the subject a bit , so will make my own position from authority that you are full of it and don't know what you are talking about.
When a commercial is so great it turns into a short film… damn Boston Dynamics you guys are the science in Sci-fi, can’t believe this is actually part of the world we are living in… exciting times 😎
When the lights came on at 1:46, that was an explosion in the pipes that Murray had just fixed. Metal shrapnel had pierced his frontal lobe. When EMTs arrived at the scene, Murray was on the floor twitching while mumbling "dance, dance" over and over. Tiny robot footsteps marked out in blood trailed around Murray - the robots had just stepped over him and continued around their routes, oblivious to the suffering.

Something like this
You maniacs Boston Dynamics! Don't you realise what you've done?! Now every union will DEMAND dance breaks with Spots in there contracts! 🤣
Unions will probably demand that real workers stay on rather than have their jobs replaced with automated facsimiles whose joints are easily sprayed with polyfill.
@@TropicalPriest Yeah I'm sure polyfill stopped the spread of self checkouts and every other form of workplace automation lol.
@@chaosfire321 No, those didn't have exposed vulnerable joints which can be fused with gunk. But automated checkout does suggest new and fun modes of shop lifting.
Its quite fascinating and scary at the same time how accurate Spot is.

The fact is, we'll be seeing these more and more as time goes on in all kinds of work places.
A frog won't notice the boiling water if you increase the temp slowly
And with all kinds of automatic weaponry mounted on their heads for urban pacification…. 😬

The CCP has found them to be quite likeable
This could be a sentence written by George Orwell lmfao.
The agility and naturalness of the movements of these robots as they dance is incredible.
I wish I had these guys when I'm working on switchgear. It would make checking the lineup and status so much easier. Keep it Boston strong Boston dynamics! Your stuff is incredible!

Not just dancing robots....the best dancing robots in the world👌👌
The best 2minutes and 56 seconds I spent on the internet starting this year :D
Noone on any site is going to be happy seeing this thing wondering round filming them, all this will do is increase animosity between office and site staff. " They cant even get off their chair, leave the office and inspect the work, now my boss is a robot" is the end product of this, then it becomes, who can lay the most effective robot traps 😂
These things are currently payrolling the streets of Shanghai, telling citizens to stay in their homes.
In 5 years:
- So, we got the new robot who does the fixing. We're only keeping admin staff.
In 10 years:
- So, we got our protocol droids now...
This company has creativity and marketing nailed on. Way to play into what you create. Never change.
I saw Spot in person the other day.
I know its a robot, but as soon as it turned on and looked at me, I just had to pet him and tell him he is a good boy.

Oh... 🤦
Babe wake up, Boston Dynamis uploaded more wholesome videos about dancing robots
This is one of the only companies whose advertisements will I go out of my way to look up and watch.
With this much progress using Spot, I’m pretty excited to see them start doing similar stuff with their bipedal walkers soon!
Those quick jumps Spot can do are phenomenal.
You guys can actually make a whole hollywood movie on Spot, with that kind of video editing, acting, filming and stuff
I mean why not?
Make it a film noir: "Spot: P.I."
"There's a million things that can go wrong in the refinery, and I find 'em all, before they become a problem. I'm Spot, of the Spot and Murray Private Investigation agency. I find problems. Murray fixes 'em.
The dame that walked into our office as the night shift was starting was 'a knockout', according to Murray. I wouldn't know, and didn't care, since I'm a 'bot. However, when she sat down and crossed her legs, my thermal sensors starting giving temperature warnings. It was clear this girl was hot enough for closer inspection.
The story she had to tell had the potential to be even hotter, though. Noises in some pipes. Sounded like a shut valve, but she couldn't find it. She was desperate, and had nowhere else to go. We agreed, for the usual charge for dames...Once the case is solved, Murray gets to dance with her. Where that leads, afterwards, I don't know, and I don't care.
As for my price....I'll join in the dancing, then head back to my charging station."
Whenever i see the notification for Boston dynamics, I’m always like, ok it’s either a step closer to our downfall or a nice wholesome video.
I love your videos, I don't think I'll ever have the money or job where I would own one, but I wish I could get a little plush of Spot. X3

I really love how the tone, emotion, and pacing of this feels exactly like a Pixar short! Aside from the way the end plays out, if I needed glasses badly enough, I'd probably be convinced it was one!
Honestly impressed how much the music, editing, and scripting of this felt like I was watching some children's movie form the early 90s in my youth about a kid and his pet or something like that.
love it!
Really hope in my lifetime they are affordable for individuals. I am seriously mobility impaired and would have a lot of use for a robot that could help me pick stuff up and carry stuff for me. Currently that robot is my wife, and I hate inconveniencing her so much. Also, we have a tiny hobby farm and properly programmed, it could actually do a lot of the chores we need. Feeding hay, it could water the animals I think with a custom spray nozzle on the hoses or a custom grip. Could be really useful for a lot of people I think. Not just industrial applications, but I know that the price at this time means it needs to focus on things that it can do better/safer than hiring an employee.
I would have so much fun making 3d printed custom attachments for this thing, heh.
Theoretically you can program one for tasks that you described even right now, but price is certainly a problem
You could 3D print a nice soft wanking-hand for it and make a fortune selling them x

Well done! You all have or use a great marketing team.
This is a well shot and put together video! The team should be proud. I'm sad though. Murray is one of those people we all know who seems to look for magic in every day life. He saw spot enter his work place and his imagination runs wild. His coworkers help create that magic for him, yes... but it's in service to get him back to work. Getting spot to dance is a fun thing the coworkers doing for Murray but its sad that the goal is to stop this behavior so he can get back to thinking about work. I suppose I wish Murray's coworkers appreciated Murray for maintaining his playful attitude instead of wanting it to go away. Work is important, yes, but so is being human.
Although I agree with your point Murray was at work. He is not paid to dance or dream, he is paid to work, in his free time he can dance with anyone or anything he pleases and dream all he likes.
@@krashd Thanks for taking time to reply. There's something unsatisfying requesting that Murray compartmentalize his humanity during his work. We are all going through this crazy experience called life. Work is a fact of life. We are alive, even at work. Surely we can expand what displays of humanity are acceptable for work, if it means people get to be alive even at work. I feel like I'm grasping at water vapor with this explanation but I think I'm on to something.
Gotta love how far technology has come this is amazing

Don't forget to give your Spots an adequate dance break to ensure optimal efficiency.
If they are primarily controlled by humans then wouldn't they technically be Mechas? If that's the case, I hope they build a giant Big Dog and Spot combination, paint it red, and name it Mecha Clifford. Imagine a giant one with a crane, drill, or cannon. Or another designed for transportation (supplies, ambulance, evacuation, reinforcements) in areas trucks, boats or helicopters struggle in.
Mechas are vehicles, i.e. they have a driver seat inside. Spot can be remote controlled, but its primary operation is to follow pre-programmed instructions, making it a robot. If it had an AI that decided what to do on its own, it be a (an)droid. If there was a human brain inside, it'd be a cyborg.
They are not primarily controlled by humans, just the ones in the videos were. They can be automated to a huge degree, there are 'Spot's being used in some remote locations such as unmanned hydroelectric dams where they patrol autonomously looking for faults and taking readings.
a small step for Spot, a giant leap for mankind.
That is one of the greatest and most adorable things I've ever seen. Bravo!
It would be criminal to sell these without a few dances pre-programmed in.
NGL, it feels kinda strange for a company your so used to putting out engineering demos to suddenly have polished commercials like these. Still, it just means they're more valid as a company.
That started happening about the time Hyundai bought out the company I believe.
