Mushoku Tensei basically started the trend of Isekai when the novel published. MANY of the isekai tropes come from it. It wasn't the first to do isekai, but it certainly mainstreamed it.
There’s almost nothing to dislike about Rudeus unless you’re completely shutting off your brain from the moment something controversial pops up without giving the story a chance. This is a story. A very good story. This is one of the best adventures of all time in Japanese Light Novels.
While I agree with most of this I do not agree with there being nothing to dislike about rudeus there are a few things to dislike about him the biggest being him being a 30 year old man in a 10 year olds body talking about having sex with his 12 year old cousin I understand that it’s not what the story is about and it’s about rudeus growing and not being as big of a pedo but still you can’t say that the scenes of him and Eris doing “things” doesn’t make you uncomfortable

1:30 Not quite. Isekai is when the MC is transported to another world. Sometimes that’s through reincarnation, sometimes it’s through summoning. The only requirement for a series to be considered an Isekai is the “transported to another world” part. So even Digimon can be considered an Isekai.
Maybe this has been explained before, for me the reason isekai is a genre in anime is because it isn't flat out about reincarnation, it's about being thrown into a world that is unlike your own after death or just being transported there. All isekais generally share a theme too, the worlds they are thrust into are normally like video games in some way. Another more negative connotation that still defines isekai as a genre is how cheaply they are made. This isn't true for Mushoku (as im sure you can tell), but isekai are some of the most created stories in modern anime, so they are kind of cranked out at such a rate where most are viewed as third rate and not really worth any time.
Trees and plants are living as well, they may not have complex thoughts but they are alive just like us. Alot of media forgets that, which is what its cool when then use healing to stimulate cellular growth n repair with the tree.
this series always made me smile, it feels so well thought out; all the things we consider tropes today all make sense in this. Subscribed because seeing this just made me happy! THough might i ask, where are you from? I can't pin down your accent; i feel like there's hints of dutch, but it doesn't sound like the dutch accent i've become accustomed to from my friends, which makes me think it could be Afrikaans, but... i can't tell!
It is Dutch ;) Could be that I either do a better job masking the accent after making videos for ten years or because of the specific part of The Netherlands I come from compared to your friends that our accents in general differ
@@RobinoyoReacts oh nice! Yeah; that's something i hadn't thought about; NL is a big enough place that it might have town based accents that sound different. I mean, if england has 50 odd accents, why not other places. Either way, a lovely accent, very soothing to listen to~
Good luck man, I’m currently volume 22 of the light novel and it’s probably my favourite series ever. Hope you make it past episode 8 lmao, that’s the most uncomfortable part of the entire series. It’s only up from there, trust me
This anime has it all amazing animation , characters, worldbuilding and the story is Grand and beautiful. Can't wait to see your reactions to this journey 👌🏽
The only people that hate the main character are people that can't watch something without identifying as the main character. The kind of reactors that always refer to the "good guys" as "us" or "we". The point of mushoku tensei is asking the question "can people change, or if you had a second chance would you be a better person". That kind of story isn't interesting if we're starting off with your typical shonen protag. If you can't empathize with someone while also disagreeing with their choices, or actions, or opinions then yeah you probably won't like mushoku tensei but I feel bad for that kind of person.
nah unless the main character changes in the 2nd season or smth nah 1st season ended with him fucking a kid... like wtf? i see 0 improvement and i watched the show enjoying it , but slowly noticed... this dude (main character) isnt changing at all (not the perv and pedo shit) why would the creator of the show just add that in for no reason? nahhh man
@@jannik323 You saw that ending sex scene with Eris and thought nothing had changed with him??? It is a juxtaposition to when he tried to have sex with her last time, where he forced himself on to her, made her uncomphortable, and got beaten up for it. In the ending sex scene, eris is the one to push him - he denies her, and she points out that he has an erection and he still says he doesnt want to because he doesnt want to take advantage of her. Its only at the very end when he finally gives in and the show handles the sex scene itself incredibly maturely by showing its more than just lust, its an emotional bond between the two of them - by seeing their whole 8 years together and their whole journey. That scene showed how far Rudy has come. If you watch that and think that Rudy hasnt changed then i really don't know what to say - maybe the show just isn't for you?
Isekai means other world. It can be someone summoned or transported to another world, reincarnated in another world or even just enters into a video game of some kind can be considered an isekai. Familiar of Zero was one of the best (great start and great ending at least) which inspired some of the current generation of isekai like Re:Zero. Mushoku Tensei then helped push the genre back into popularity long before it was even animated, even having stories it inspired getting animated first. I guess you could say Rudy went from below zero to zero just by being reincarnated.
I actually like how magic works in there :) how big waterball dissipated in the air and it looked like rain after, how healing works not only on humans or animals, but on all living things, trees included
Holy shit no way, I was just looking through the channel to see if you had this anime so I could rewatch it through you before s2 and was sad that there wasn't. And here we are 😂
I love this series so much. One of my Top Three series ever. Especially the Light Novel. The level of detail in the story and world building is honestly impressive. The character arcs and developments is astounding.
The way you're consuming this is really interesting to watch and is probably the best way to watch it. Basically, when the light novel first came out, it was among the first isekai to be made in the style that we know them for today. And it was by far the most influential on what is now the most ubiquitous anime genre of the last decade. However, this adaptation only came out a couple years ago, so most of the people watching it are doing so with a deep understanding of the tropes that it originated. So with this being your first isekai, you're essentially experiencing the story the same way people did when the light novel came out.
Isekai means you're transported onto another world, not necessarily by means of reincarnation. Technically something like The Wizard of Oz, Alice in Wonderland or even The Matrix could be considered "Isekai" stories but the standard "genre" for this in anime is someone going into a fantasy world of swords and magic, often similar to your standard jrpg. Often they even have gaming elements thrown into it, but not in Mushoku's case.
Rudeus thinking maturely . LOL. One of the good aspect of this show for me is that as you mention in the discusion it is not as fast past as other anime. It takes time to build up the world and the characters . Other anime don't do this often.
13:05 this new world is not a video game world. Its MP doesn’t exist Mana and Tuki do but, but MP, its not a specific gauge. He’s just using terminology that he’s knows cus only place magic existed os in fantasy and video games.
One thing, Rudeus can cast magic without chanting, because he is very good in physics, chemestry and this stuff. Which is not really explained in the anime. This grants him the ability to chant the magic in his mind, by imagining the laws of the world. Because in this world people dont have such a knowledge about physics and chemestry as Rudeus does, they must speak the chant. But people do exist, those who can do chantless magic without knowing pyhsics and chemestry. they are real blessed ones.
19:00 Not really. But it is *extremely* rare. It doesn’t explain why until *much* further into the story. If you don’t care about spoilers, I can tell you why. Otherwise, stop reading this comment now. *SPOILER BELOW* It’s because the people in that world wait too long to start learning magic. They usually wait until they’re at least around 10 years old before they start learning magic. And in order to learn chantless magic, you have to start learning Magic *younger* than that. This is something that Rudy himself figures out later in the story. The anime hasn’t even reached that part yet, but it will in season 2, which just started.
Just like 90% of the comments on this video already said, this is a spectacular story. A whole lot of folks think this is one of the best animes to come out so far, especially once one gets to the end of season 1. I think the same. I actually read it before the anime aired, and it was one of the most fun and interesting experiences of my adult life. I have heard that the intent from the anime starting production that it will get fully adapted from the novels. I'll believe it when I see it, but I ABSOLUTELY hope that is true, because it just means more, and gives more, the whole way up to the conclusion.
0:27 You can't have a positive character arc unless the protagonist starts off on the negative side. Yeah, he starts the anime as a perv. He learns better and, well before the end of the season, he's turning into a great guy. Again, how do you show somebody improving himself if he doesn't need to be improved?
I went into this series pretty neutral, but fell in love with the show. It's not perfect, but it's one of my favorites regardless. I finished the first season and immediately read all the light novels. Hope you like it. The main character's fine. It's a story about getting a second chance at life and trying to do better the second time around. I want the main character of that kind of story to actually have a lot of flaws.
This is why you dont rely on twitter opinions, MAl reviews, or other online forums about a show. You need to have an open minded attitude on EVERY show moving forward. Not omly this.
Mushoku Tensei is trying to touch very sensitive matters. Now in general the anime (and web novel) are top tier. Art style, animation, music, world building, character introductions, character building and growth. Chefs kiss.
21:00 I think that's just because this author has confidence in his writing. A lot of work that gets turned into anime are generic things that are pumped out. The authors don't have confidence in their stories so they speed run thro everything with the hopes that if enough happens the audience won't get bored. It's a similar tactic that many hollywood blockbusters use. Fast pacing and spectacle to keep the audience from getting bored, because the writing itself is boring on it's own.
I keep hearing people have negative opinions too. I don't get it. The vast majority of people love this series. I've watched 36 reaction series on youtube to this show. I think 3 of them were 50/50 in terms of like and hating it. The rest were like 90% or higher in terms of liking it. The show respects your intelligence and is not afraid to push it's limits and put you in uncomfortable places. But if you make it though season 1 your going to respect the series. The LN is a lot better than the anime but the anime is still top tier.
Just to clarify. "Isekai" doesn't mean "reincarnation" (that would be "tensei"). "sekai" means "world" "isekai" means "(an)other world" Isekai is broad genre where a character is somehow ending up in "different world" than the one of modern japan (could be fantasy world, vr game, via reincarnation, summoning, truck-kun... anything goes). Mushoku Tensei is one of the best isekai out there. Genre is huge, but doesn't have that many gems.
1:52 Most anime is an adaptation from novel and Mushoku Tensei is already popular in novel and also it is one of some novel that popularaizing the isekai even tho this anime is new because its novel is already old. Edit 2: most original story is always better than the copy/inspiring story. We can still make original based a story that already done like inspiring but we make it like its totally different. Guess some best isekai anime like Log Horizon, No Game No Life, Konosuba, RE: Zero, Mushoku Tensei, and Slime Isekai, we can clearly tell that OP slime isekai is a bit overrated.
This is the type of show that you either really love it, or you hate it(just because of how the main character is at the beginning). There isn’t really an in between. The theme of the show is essentially second chances. The entire story is the MC’s second chance at life.
The only reason why some of these ignorant people deem the show "bad" just because of some intentional problems the mc has is insane, the worldbuilding, pacing, animation and story in this show is second to none and its just really a shame to see people getting put off the show because of some western people. Also Mushoku Tensei is the grandfather of the entire isekai genre so its great that this show is the first isekai your watching. Alsoalso ill be subbing to your patreon once the entire show is on there so ill be looking forward to that lol
I think only a small number of people hate this show majority love it. I like those who hate the show say rudy is a piece of shit and a bad person cause that's the point of the show. I don't think someone who lived as a bad person can change his whole personality just because he got reincarnated. Personally i think this show is all about how a shitty person who got a second chance in life tries to change little by little
I gonna give advice you need to get all the detail this anime give please don't ignore any information this anime give because it's really useful. For a people ignoring the detail they gonna ended up hate it or they not get the best experience watching this series. I gonna tell you the season one is all about introduction to the character and plot and also character development so you need to be patient Good luck 🤞
No you will not hate this anime it’s a good pace setter some things will hit with you I encourage you stick with the train till the end you will not be disappointed
0:56 You said mainstream anime, and then there is Steins;Gate and it's your favorite. Steins;Gate is basically nothing like any mainstream anime. If you love it, there is a big change you'll also Mushoku Tensei. Can't agree more that S;G and Mushoku Tensei is maybe in top 5 or even top 3 anime story wise. El Psy Congroo...
Please give it a chance. There will be things coming up that made many watchers drop it. However, that is because they didnt truly understand the mc. And Rudeus will go through one of the best character developments in anime. The story is great the more you learn about the world. World building is also great. So are the characters you meet soon. this is no ordinary isekai, you will not even feel it being one later. The story has literal parts that are called "turning point". Which is literaly a big turning point that impacts the story heavily. Multiple ones.
Yo I just found you, listening to your intro, haven't watched the reaction yet haha. It's cool that you aren't easily offended, but with this show it's much more important to me personally that you don't excuse the reprehensible behavior. Please don't be afraid to call it out and criticize the characters' choices if they seem bad, Rudy is an unreliable narrator and being able to see his faults clearly makes for a much better experience when he grows as a character. I know that can be weird sometimes with just like, trying to appeal to the fans of the show but I think it makes for much better content and discussions (imo).
Its sad that after this Isekai he wont be able to watch others lol, because this one is so much better than anything else in the gnere with some very little exceptions. My favorites Isekai btw
There’s still some good isekai out there, I do agree that this is probably the best one so far but stuff like re:zero or overlord might also be of interest to him
@@granv3000 Overlord is a classic, but im furious over howbad Mad House is handling the adaptation. They have literal gold on their hands, but they decide to smear it in shit before presenting it to the world. I hate how most talking scenes is just a flat image with some mouth movements, and how when ains talks - its just 10 seconds of the same image. The animation quality is crap and they bad cg they use is mind boggling. I used to love overlord (i still love the light novel), but season 4 was the final straw for me to be honest
He is a very despicable person, you will see. But he will learn to live like a normal person. This life was his second chance. In season three and season four he will be a formidable man.
Simply an fyi. Isekai means another world. The "genre" or trope is simply that. A character going to another world. Whether that be through reincarnation, teleportation, or something else
Mushoki tensie is the best isekai anime speaks out about how mentally a person can be but also is the only anime that have the concept of family around unlike other animes leaving 11 year old run wild living a dream life this anime is more realistic
I wish you didn't know so much going into it, especially considering you're such a chill guy. It'd be nice to watch a Mushoku Tensei reaction where people don't feel the need to defend watching what is objectively one of the best animes made in the past decade all because Twitter SJWs are offended. Also, it's super interesting that you thought crime aspect of things and how certain people already hate Redeus just for his thoughts.
This anime definitely has some uncomfortable moments and is not for everyone but the hate is also undeserved and comes largely from misrepresentation of facts, Mushoku tensei is easily one of the best anime of the last decade and deserves to be acknowledged for what it does well.
The main character of this anime was supposed to be antipathetic and inappropriate towards women (only as sex objects) at first. After all, he was locked in his own room for over ten years and sat only on the Internet. It's a story about redemption, learning to live and healing trauma.
Isekai means other-world, so character(s) from one world going to another world, that’s it. This anime is in my opinion really good. I’ve found others seem to have to have little problem with the world itself, but some do with the main character. He starts extremely flawed, they occasionally explain why and it is very understandable, he wants to be better, and does slowly get better (though he sometimes doesn’t personally see it due to those same issues). There are a few points where the main character makes people momentarily uncomfortable. If they understand it, they tend to be fine with it even if they are momentarily uncomfortable. If they don’t, they might drop the anime. Those have been my personal observations.
I think why some people hate the show is that they don't shy away from dealing with serious and dark concepts like slavery, incest, rape, suicide, depression, misoginy, poverty and so on.
To me, it's the only Isekai that actually makes use of the fact that it's an Isekai. Take Re:Zero for example, the fact that Subaru was from a regular world as we know it was barely relevant very quickly in the series. In Mushoku Tensei, the past life of the MC is always part of the story. He's a pervert, but not just for the sake of comedic moments, but because of the trauma he experienced in his past life and the following 20 years of being a shut-in. They are actively making use of the Isekai setting for the sake of a unique way of character development. It's brilliant when you think about it.
Thank you for watching this production! Do you think this work is different from typical entertaining animations and rather resembles a serious drama series?
The best shows have controversy. You see controversy with AOT AND vinland Saga… hell there is people that hate season 4 of AOT… everything is possible for anime fans
There are some parts of the show I have skipped due to certain scenes being a little too uncomfortable for me, but it is definitely one of the best anime out there. Especially for the Isekai genre.
Well, yeah there is this pervert thing. And also the fact that because he remember his past life makes it weirder when he love a young girl (as an old man in the body of a young boy) but it's clearly not the main thing in the anime and it can make you think on that topic. Just for your information. This anime is an adaptation of the manga. This was the first real "Isekai" long before the genre got it's name.
Mushoku Tensei is the only Story that got me into reading the lightnovel. It follows the story of a main protagonist who carries many burdens from his past life with him to his new one. The story makes it clear that he is a very flawed human beeing to begin with and he may not be able to change some core aspects of his beeing, but he gets the chance to change and overall some might say to have a better life. You just cant put the whole story into a few sentences, sorry. 😅 Just found your channel today and started the Mushoku Tensei playlist 👍

I saw someone calling Rudeus a side character just because he doesn't like him and that he claims that he's useless, it's insane.
@@SilverCrow0101 I agree with this fully I like his character a lot but there are a ton of thing I hate about his character regardless mushoku tensei is one of my favorite anime ever probably top 5 or top 3
Hey robin havent watched you in ages but now seeing you start jobless reancarnation I can't wait!!
Welcome back! Hope you'll enjoy the ride :D
I hope u dont ever stop uploading robin, one of my favourite channels icl
Subscribed cuz this shows means a lot to me in a personal level because of the themes in later episodes and arcs. Really hope you dont drop it
Haven't dropped a single show I've reacted to yet ;) Currently on ep9 on Patreon and several episodes ahead of that myself already so we're definitely watching this in its entirety!
That’s good to hear and just in time for season 2.
21:19 No, that’s just *this* show specifically. Most Isekai rush through the beginning more than this show does
1:30 Not quite.
A good comparison is basically Battle Royale in video games
It’s only up from there, trust me
I'm already on ep12 on Patreon so we're good don't worry ;D
This anime has it all amazing animation , characters, worldbuilding and the story is Grand and beautiful.
Can't wait to see your reactions to this journey 👌🏽
The only people that hate the main character are people that can't watch something without identifying as the main character. The kind of reactors that always refer to the "good guys" as "us" or "we". The point of mushoku tensei is asking the question "can people change, or if you had a second chance would you be a better person". That kind of story isn't interesting if we're starting off with your typical shonen protag. If you can't empathize with someone while also disagreeing with their choices, or actions, or opinions then yeah you probably won't like mushoku tensei but I feel bad for that kind of person.
nah
unless the main character changes in the 2nd season or smth
nah
1st season ended with him fucking a kid... like wtf? i see 0 improvement
and i watched the show enjoying it , but slowly noticed... this dude (main character) isnt changing at all (not the perv and pedo shit)
why would the creator of the show just add that in for no reason? nahhh man
@@jannik323 You saw that ending sex scene with Eris and thought nothing had changed with him???
@@jannik323 🤡
This is my favorite story ever told in any form of media. I've read all the light novels multiple times and the side stories.
Some of the cringe and semi lewd behavior is needed to really drive home the growth of a man that never recovered from his sexual assault as a teen.
Same x10000000
Glad to find familiar channel reacting to now my favorite show, there are not quite many of them. Hadn't watched you in a while
Holy shit no way, I was just looking through the channel to see if you had this anime so I could rewatch it through you before s2 and was sad that there wasn't.
He’s just using terminology that he’s knows cus only place magic existed os in fantasy and video games.
yooo robin is watching peak letsgooooo
One thing, Rudeus can cast magic without chanting, because he is very good in physics, chemestry and this stuff.
Which is not really explained in the anime. This grants him the ability to chant the magic in his mind, by imagining the laws of the world.
Because in this world people dont have such a knowledge about physics and chemestry as Rudeus does, they must speak the chant.
But people do exist, those who can do chantless magic without knowing pyhsics and chemestry. they are real blessed ones.
Now this is gonna be interesting.
Indeed! MT as the 1st Isekai?!? I dunno
19:00 Not really. But it is *extremely* rare. It doesn’t explain why until *much* further into the story. If you don’t care about spoilers, I can tell you why. Otherwise, stop reading this comment now.
*SPOILER BELOW*
It’s because the people in that world wait too long to start learning magic.
0:27
You can't have a positive character arc unless the protagonist starts off on the negative side.
I have read ahead, and allow me to tell you, this story handles character development very very well.
This anime starts off slow in the beginning, introducing the characters and the world ,which is quite nice
19:45 Episode 2 explains that, though not in nearly as much detail as the novels, obviously.
You will hate this anime
Then you will get used to this anime, then you will love this anime,
then you will need this anime
You'll hate the MC but the story and the animation is just 😘👌 chefs kiss
"Will i hate this anime"
It become bro's favorite
I am very happy and excited for this new trip! How often will the reactions come out?
I had a hard time watching this at the start but it's one of my favorite shows now
10:53 the game you meant is Rance?? i played it long ago lol
Definitely the goat Isekai, just in time to get into the 2nd season
This was the first anime to make Isekai popular again, it is thanks to this, that now we have at least 5 Isekai anime per season
Is it just me or he sounds like walmart Garnt😂
Nice reaction btw. Loved your discussion on the show
😭😭😭
This story is a masterpiece
Just to clarify. "Isekai" doesn't mean "reincarnation" (that would be "tensei").
"sekai" means "world"
"isekai" means "(an)other world"
Isekai is broad genre where a character is somehow ending up in "different world" than the one of modern japan (could be fantasy world, vr game, via reincarnation, summoning, truck-kun... anything goes).
Mushoku Tensei is one of the best isekai out there. Genre is huge, but doesn't have that many gems.
1:52
Most anime is an adaptation from novel and Mushoku Tensei is already popular in novel and also it is one of some novel that popularaizing the isekai even tho this anime is new because its novel is already old.
I hope u like the show cuz it's getting a right now a new season and it will be amazing (I've seen the light novel so yeah)
Paying attention is my middle name haha, don't worry about it! ;D
He did watched Shows like Dark , Breaking Bad and Better call Saul. He got good eyes
Wow, imagine your first Isekai to be the best Isekai
I need to catch up before you release episode 21 😂😂
No you will not hate this anime it’s a good pace setter some things will hit with you I encourage you stick with the train till the end you will not be disappointed
0:56 You said mainstream anime, and then there is Steins;Gate and it's your favorite. Steins;Gate is basically nothing like any mainstream anime. If you love it, there is a big change you'll also Mushoku Tensei. Can't agree more that S;G and Mushoku Tensei is maybe in top 5 or even top 3 anime story wise. El Psy Congroo...
There's isekai (new/different world), tensei (reincarnation), and a combination of the two. This one is the last type.
This is my personal favorite anime of all time, its incredible and considered the father of isekai anime.
Subbed for MT reactions
As an anime fan, I can confirm I am in a basement. No regrets ahaah
This anime turned me into a HUGE fan of anime , but im impatient so im reading all the novels now
He is a very despicable person, you will see. But he will learn to live like a normal person. This life was his second chance. In season three and season four he will be a formidable man.
You're a little late but welcome to the squad also season 2 is here
Let's go!!! First isekai anime!! 🎉🎉🎉🎉
Coolest guy on UA-cam
Coolest guy in the comments section
Death note, Aot, Steins;Gate, and now mushoku Tensei? All of my favorite animes lol
People that hate it are triggered twitter goblins who don't understand the difference between narrative content and the intent/message behind it.
YESSSSSSS, its a very good one, go for the ride and you'll not regret
To me, it's the only Isekai that actually makes use of the fact that it's an Isekai. Take Re:Zero for example, the fact that Subaru was from a regular world as we know it was barely relevant very quickly in the series. In Mushoku Tensei, the past life of the MC is always part of the story. He's a pervert, but not just for the sake of comedic moments, but because of the trauma he experienced in his past life and the following 20 years of being a shut-in. They are actively making use of the Isekai setting for the sake of a unique way of character development. It's brilliant when you think about it.
she healed the tree because it's alive.
Especially for the Isekai genre.
also it's because this show is a full run of 24 episodes instead of a half season like most
Well, yeah there is this pervert thing.
Why does he sound like Gigguk 😭
first one here!! I really like your video!!! hope you will enjoy it😂😂
Isekai is kinda just any story about someone going to a different world, kinda like Alice and Wonderland but a lot focus on more modern fantasy.
Just found your channel today and started the Mushoku Tensei playlist 👍
Oh boy this as your first? Hold on Buddy it's a rough ride sometimes.
people who watch this anime will end up with 2 types whether you love it or you hate it because of mc
But let's see what will happen😂😂
In my opinion it's a one of the best anime isekai
(Edit) hope u enjoy the show
