Recon tanks are me and my buddy's favorite. One time we used hit and run tactics against a Tiger, kept on getting his engine or turret, and by the time he turned to face us we had bolted away and he couldn't find us. When we came back they were repairing and we got 2 of their crew. After that we were able to drive circles around him and he got destroyed.
It's also great for defending the artillery since it mostly gets attacked by recons in comp matches. It's the ultimate antiflank weapon for defense too since it multiplies the area covered by only one guy
Great guide! My only addition as someone who loves this role. When you are on the move do it quickly. When you are stopped. Turn off your engine. Unless you engage the enemy with your weapons you will stay covert longer. The engine restarts quickly and the transmission will have you on the move fast.
It’s a shame that there’s so much that the community writes off recon vehicles and light tanks as useless because they either don’t use them effectively, or because they don’t like to take risks. Had a game of Omaha Beach last night where we proceeded to use a Stuart tank to get our team off the beach by targeting MGs and other annoyances. All we did was just dive five meters off the spawn and had another SL act as an additional spotter for targets.
It’s sad really as I could imagine a well coordinated team assaulting an area with the knowledge of any enemies and effectively eliminate them. People most often forget that having someone giving information is crucial as eliminating a tank/assault team from pushing through the defense lines. Without any information people often die or miss an enemy in their sights.
Nice video, Mono - recon vehicles are great! Had a fun recon vehicle rush recently where we destroyed the enemy's initial supply truck, supplies, garrison, and Panther just in the first 5 minutes of the match. FYI for newer players, be careful about destroying enemy vehicles sitting in their HQ spawns; some servers will kick you for doing so. It's not considered very sporting, so I usually abstain from doing so unless we're on their last point.

The 'Radioset primary' reload of the 'Recon capture' in the tanks F3 (commander position) stops when you leave that position. This makes the recon-capture unviable for solo or even two-man squads.
