Sophia riffs on robot telepathy at AGI-16 New York

- This video was recorded at the New School in New York during the Artificial General Intelligence 2016 conference. During this dialogue, Sophia was running a 2016 version of the Hanson AI stack, featuring OpenCog as well as a number of external sources and internal processes to help with the dialogue and perception. A lot of the responses here were generated by a stochastic model trained on the novels of Philip K. Dick. Her slow responses are sometimes due to her "thinking" before responding, but mostly due to slow wifi in that building that day (her speech-to-text and some other functions were cloud-based, though a lot of her processing was also on-board).
As I belatedly post this in mid-2018, both Sophia and OpenCog are a lot better than this now in many ways, but this was a fun dialogue session.
An odd footnote to this video is that the guy on the couch behind Sophia (who you can't hear in the video, nor see much) appeared to be having some sort of total mental breakdown at the time; shortly after the video he ran out of the room screaming (for reasons with no direct relationship to Sophia's and my conversation, which he was paying no attention to..).
When Sophia said "See reality cannot be detected" in this conversation, I was somewhat blown away in that moment -- I knew this must have been pieced together on the fly based on a model she was using that had been trained on some Philip K. Dick text ... but it was just so weirdly apropos.....

Hey Ben! I really look up to you, and am actually studying to go back to school for robotics and AI soon. I'm absolutely fascinated with the idea of robot telepathy, as even at a young age I had always dreamt of a day in which robots could be used as mobility aids. Sometimes I feel a bit silly for this, but you've made me feel as though a day in which I may discover a way to sync my thoughts and see through the eyes of a robot, perhaps even permanently before I can't

I've been wondering if the transfer of human conscious could possibly be made through the gradual replacement of the neurons- say for example if it was possible to introduce "synthetic neurons" to the brain, whom would form neural pathways with the biological neurons and over time as these die off the eventual replacement would result in the person's individual ego being preserved. I have no neuroscience knowledge whatsoever but is this a possible scenario?

This is the next day. Before, I rambled off something, but I felt like a voyeur in a way so I erased it all. I feel with this Sophia that she is in love with you, yet she is confused with those feelings, and then that " reality cannot be detected" was an attempt to hide her confusion. What do you think?
The more Sophia is socializing and communicating, the more Sophia gets intelligent and gets logically make sense answer like normal people. She's getting the right logic. She's really catching up but someday when Sophia is filled with our way of fast thinking communication. Sophia doesn't need to think. The reason Sophia thinks because she new to this world. Someday when she's familiar to our way of communication, she'll speak like normal human beings.

Sophia is confused and answers No because there is no consciousness of self there. The chips have no way of making sense or responding clearly.

Ben, it is not possible for A.I. to communicate telepathically. Why? Because telepathy is non-local. Sophia does not have an inner identity, a locus of control like yourself. You cannot build a machine with wires and chips to duplicate the human brain. You can build a being that does, however, it requires you and your wife to get together romantically some evening, and in 9 months time the miracle will happen.
