  • This W9 motor makes about 1034 horsepower at a little over 11000 RPM, and still makes a decent amount of torque down at lower revs. This is due to what I did to make it make that much power, for one thing, in this platform, the vehicle can achieve roughly 19 MPG at a 60 to 70 MPH cruising speed in eighth gear. Its supposed to basically be running a super race fuel to give it such power, and I believe its compression ratio is very high as well. Its a little monster and it tops out in speed at 230 MPH simply due to the downforce being simulated as a high drag coefficient.
I'm using my fictional Merlani brand, like the company made this for F1 and raced it, but this is the experimental high-compression version running a very potent in-house fuel concoction to push its limits.

It somewhat sounds like a rotary.

I'm glad you enjoyed it, I'm planning on trying more odd engines under my fictional Merlani brand, but getting the ideas flowing in the context of the lore I built about the company years ago is quite difficult, writer's block is oddly enough an obstacle here XP

The configuration sounds like it belongs in an open wheeler.

W9s are such a compelling engine layout. I wonder how complex/difficult it would be to make a good one.

I think it would be akin to adapting three I-3 engines into a common block, with a 60 degree bank angle between them, since a radial 3 engine has the cylinders 120 degrees apart on the crank, or 240 apart in timing, so with the banks all being their own cycles with their cylinders 120 degrees apart, the 60 degree split between each means that in the 720 degree long 4 stroke cycle each bank fires a cylinder once every 240 degrees, and the engine as a whole has an even firing pattern of once every 80 degrees. The way I have this one set up is that the rear row fire one after the other, so this engine isn't balanced well in terms of its firing order, but it does make it quite predictable and easy to make exhaust headers for, and for an ECU to control it, its simply the same I-3 engine but copy-pasted with an 80 degree timing delay between banks, so it could be treated like a set of 3 inline 3 engines just connected together with 3 individual I-3 ECUs mapped to a common throttle body and sensors and whatnot.

@@Avetho I appreciate your comment, it's interesting reading how you did yours. If it was up to me I'd go "I-E E-I I-E" so that there's no exhaust header cooking up a intake plenum. :^)
Once I have some free time I'll try to make a undersquare, torquey 120º V12. My 9yo old laptop probably won't be able to handle it, lol. Cheers!

@@peekaboo1575 Yeah, if I redid this engine or one like it, most likely once Ange releases the first version of ES3D -(or well we make it through the current G5 solar storm at least)- I would certainly mirror the center bank cylinder head, it wouldn't do anything to change engine function, but in real life it would make it lighter weight due to less required heat shielding, the way its set out in this video would require some hefty heat shielding between bank one's intake and bank two's exhaust header and between bank two's intake and bank three's exhaust, and for thermal balance this might be best mounted as mid-engine transverse with bank one being the front-most bank and the exhausts coming out the front side of the engine, so the exhaust heat doesn't roast the transmission, 1000 horsepower is a lot for a transverse gearbox to handle so keeping that thing cool is very important.

Now that I hear it, it kinda does. Problem is, now I can't unhear the leaf blower-yness XD
