I just upgraded from my 7480 to a 5591 with a quad and dedicated graphics. I love the build. It's nice. I got a 512gb M.2 in mine. If you can, upgrade to it. I run Mint linux 19 on mine, and the performance is sweet. Way too much hardware for what I typically do. But it should last for years.I stand corrected. WD black. Your the man!!!
@Mana_Beast_Beats Well it depends on the configuration I believe. If you want a smaller battery, go for it. But given the low price of fast M.2 drives it would be a little silly.

WD10JPVX are really easy to get a hold of. They go for like, $19 on EBay usually. I don't want to be stuck only being able to use M2 drives.
@Mana_Beast_Beats Well, there you go. I would rather spend like $50 extra bucks and have an insanely fast 1tb of storage myself. I mean I bought a Samsung 980 pro the other day for like $65 dollars shipped. To me that's a no brainer. Not only is it a lot of storage, it's insanely fast and uses less power than mechanical drives and can use bigger batteries. But I am sure you could easily find a scenario that makes your idea not only great, but an advantage. I just don't readily see it. But you do and that's what counts. One of the reasons I love Dell Latitude is you can build it up exactly how you want it. Lots of flexibility. Your not stuck with what Dell ships with, you can make it your own. Enjoy!

To add the M.2 drive, you will need the following Dell Part number (which I have bought on eBay several times for a dell 5590 I own and I also will upgrade my 5490 with the same part : The Adapter part number is: 2FFR0 Google it with the word Dell in front of it and you will find copies for maybe a bit more than $10? Further comments from the article referenced below goes on to say: The adapter needs 2 screws. 1 to screw it into the motherboard casing, the second to hold down the NVME drive (and heat sink) This part is REQUIRED in order to install the NVME drive. Otherwise, there's nothing to hold the drive down. Now the following article has pictures and its agenda is a bit more aggressive for the Dell 5590 15.6 " screen (not the 5490 (14" SCREEN) which is a bit smaller) - on how to install not one but two hard drives (SSDs) both M.2 and the normal SATA interface for a SSD drive (to replace the slower HDD). I actually did this successfully for my 5590. I bought the 7400, I was highly disappointed that it doesn't have a nub so I bought a slightly used 5490 to do most of my writting on. It has most of the nice options but only an i5 7300u, so I am going to see what it will cost to upgrade that to the quadcore like whats in my 7400. Very good instructions video.
Neither the owner's manual or you didn't give a tech-spec mention of the WiFi Card or the WWAN card - an M.2, I presume. The WiFi cards are readily outdated, with Bluetooth 5 widely available along as AX wifi standards. If the owner's manual or you had displayed the connector-tips, we'd have seen 1 or 2 notched connectors for the existing card, and know then the connector was suitable - or not. On some previous generations of WWAN-slots, those can be bootable M.2 slots in the BIOS, so we've loaded smaller (but now rare and expensive) Boot Drives (128/256/512gb) SSDs and load the OS there, and save the M.2 1180s for 1-2gb drives. Or use that for boot, then move all the TEMP and PAGE SYS FILES to the smaller, cheaper M.2 in the WWAN slot.
How is the sound quality? got my new 5490 and a little bit static buzz noice from the speakers when the volume is over "50". Do you have the same problem?

I have a Dell 5480. i want to add a second HDD to the laptop. i can seen in you video where, on the top left, where you have a blank space for WWAN card, i dont have anything written there. will it support M2 sata. can i use two M2 sata? on in this blank space and one in place for the regular HDD. This new policy from vendors like Dell and Lenovo to make it stupidly hard to remove the back-panel is a disgrace. Having to forego the 2.5" Drive for an M2 is also stupid....all that space in there, wasted.

It's good that you can plug a WWAN 4G card, but it's unfortunate that you can't use both SATA and M.2 NVMe at the same time. I have Probook 440 G5 and I added an SATA SSD in adition to the M.2 2280 SSD. I have no free slot for WWAN, but at any time I can plug USB LTE adapter, which is minor minus, but I have 2 storage slots instead in a 14 inch laptop, so there is no excuse for Dell or Lenovo (for their 14" ThinkPads) to invent a better motherboards with space for 2 storage drives.
I know that there is no option to have both ssd, and hdd at the same time as only one can fit in the disk bay, but is there enough room to fit m.2 ssd and sata to m.2 adapter with small 42mm m.2 disk in it? There are adapters as wide as just the sata connector. Would they work if there is enough room?
I don't think so. I believe you are referring to an adapter like www.aliexpress.com/item/2pcs-B-Key-M-2-NGFF-SSD-to-SATA-2-5-7-15-22-Pin-Converter/32833687312.html . However, I might be wrong about the second M.2 connector in that Dell may be discouraging the caching SSD by simply labeling the slot WWAN and dropping the caching disk option from the spec... but the slot really looks like just a standard "M-Keyed" PCIe slot and if so, I think it might work. I am considering finding a small M-Keyed SSD right now for the slot labeled WWAN and will report back if I find that it does work.
So far Dell has confirmed that the WWAN port is nothing more than a standard mini PCIe port and it looks to me like a 22 x 40 M Keyed port. Once they tell me how to order the 'clip' for the main m.2 port, I will order parts and test again. I am hopeful that I can get the mini M.2 port to use a 60gb SSD and then I can use Intel RST to configure it as a caching disk, even though Dell says it can't be done.
I've read on some forum that somebody already tried connecting an m.2 ssd to that wwan port but to no avail. That's why I was hoping to fit two drives into the drive bay, one by m.2 port and the other via sata adapter. Too bad dell doesn't make it easy to expand functionality, as lenovo does. T480 allows connecting ssd drive via their wwan m.2 port... That's why now I consider buying lenovo.
I have rerecorded this video explaining the two PCIe M.2 heads because it really seems like you should be able to use a Caching SSD, but you cannot. I am also recording a new video right now benchmarking the various disk options including the 2242 SSD. Both will be posted tomorrow.

The back was very difficult to get off... but then popped surprisingly easily from the small notch/leverage point with a small flat head screwdriver.

He should have gone to the BIOS to cut off the power from the battery to the motherboard before removing components.
