@beelzabubba Yes, Dave Gilmour went to Kate's house when she was 15 to hear her sing & play piano. She'd been writing/composing songs since age 11. Impressed, he then funded for 3 of her demo songs (including Man With The Child In His Eyes) to be mastered in the studio. EMI heard the recordings & signed her instantly. Gilmour later said Kate had such incredible talent, it would have been criminal to ignore her.
I've never heard this before! I'm still diving into Kate's work. It's been about 4 years now since I purchased "Hounds Of Love" & I've been in love ever since. Thank you for this!
@RockOnGhita I agree. Gilmour can exude such emotion in just one bend of a note. A true musician. Far greater than certain guitarists who think it's all about showing off how many notes you can cram into a bar, who don't 'feel' the music like Gilmour.
When i saw Roy in Hyde Park about the mid 70's Dave Gilmour was in his backing band along with John Paul Jones and Andy or Edgar Broughton, some backing band.
big in UK folk rock scene, but not really mainstream. In the 1970s, Harper sand "Have A Cigar on Pink Floyds "Wish You Were Here" Album, friends with Robert Plant and Faces keyboard player Ronnie Lane. Was pretty well known in the UK folk rock scene, but not really mainstream. In the early 1980s, he made a disastrous tour to America which resulted in bankruptcy
Those lyrics tho..... You, my daring time traveller You, love dwelling discoverer You, you open the doors for me And let me in I come You, my deep secret accomplices You, who endure my injustices You, you reward me kind likenesses Bearing gifts Of home To new dimensions in the zoo Helpless lovers follow you Only you You, my dear old companion You, my fairest opinion You, my sweet faithful perfection Homin' in Come on You, from my seeds of eternity You, always gently in front of me You, you're so soft deep inside of me And like a rock
@key2kingdom I love the serene mood of Aerial, especially on the 'A Sky of Honey' suite - makes me imagine relaxing on a beach, in the midst of Summer 8-) ... without a holiday this year I've been starved of that lately lol. Great, I hope it goes well then!
I thought I'd mention that Roy not only wrote the Song but the majority of the Harmonies are Roy as well being as everyone is talking about Kate and Dave as if Roy were an also ran. "Hats off to Roy" by Led Zep is also a Tribute to Roy. The man is a Calss 1 Genius.
We all wish we could write songs like kate and others she will exist for ever thelove hounds will be sure of that she is a very special person a real one
@KatesPinkZeppelin Yeah, being an (obsessive!) Floyd fan, I really have Gilmour to thank for getting me into her music. I knew & liked Running Up That Hill (that hypnotic rhythm always kind of caught me) but it was also because of the Gilmour connection that I decided to dig deeper & get her albums. Lucky I did!
@ John LaStrada - David Gilmour has worked with Kate from day one of her professional life, he pretty much discovered her and played on her first album and others.
@@brianjosephcardinale7686 Only on the live version. The only album he actually played on was "The Sensual World". Plus, backing vocals on "Pull Out The Pin" off "The Dreaming" 1982.
Ronald Griffiths If you like ethereal music that was way ahead of its time, check out Cocteau Twins - Liz Fraser was their singer, but sadly has become somewhat reclusive
ohhh she's bonny. I wouldn't say no to her. I bet she'll go far with those sultry looks. Good Luck to you for the future. It's a minefield out there. She looks kind of retro in these pictures. You would do so well on Britains Got Talent. Look what it did for Susan Boil. I'd certainly vote for you. x
You comment inspired me to listen to Sunset and Pi from Aerial - until today I'd not bothered with the album, as on first hearing I was sooo disappointed with it. I'll go back to it and see if there's any other gems . . Re arranging Sunset - I'll let it soak in for a while, and see how it goes . .
@FloydyTube - That is true. But with Richard Wright gone and the possibility of a new Pink Floyd reunion fading...I was hoping maybe the surviving members would reunite with a new edge -- Pink Floyd featuring Kate Bush (Not on all the tracks). I think Floyd fans would welcome it. Especially if she were collaborated with Roger Waters & David Gilmour. It would just take Pink Floyd to yet, another new level. But, it's just a suggestion. I know I would buy it if it ever were released.
because of the top 40 bs. she probably wasn't too fond of doing much here after the asinine interviews, God they couldn't even get her song titles right. shakes head....I really don't know, but I am a US citizen and I might be her biggest fan ever in this country. she moves my soul like no other.
@logicreality1 Hehe ;) We can safely say Kate Bush is the polar opposite of everything XFactor represents. She's her own lyricist, composer, producer and, as her brother so eloquently put it, "she doesn't want to play with the [media] bullshit."
@lastrada52 It was Floyd's Have A Cigar that Harper sang lead on, but yes Kate with Floyd could've been immense! Both are very experimental musically, plus the progressive rock elements & concept album spring to mind (Pink Floyd The Wall, Kate's The Ninth Wave/A Sky of Honey)... if only Kate had made a short film for The Ninth Wave - I believe she thought about it but nothing ever materialised.
Roy Harper's cool interview about Have a Cigar vocals just made me think of him associated with Jimmy Page and Lez Zeppelin making me aware of him in the first
@CrimsonDiamond You're absolutely right CrimsonDiamond -- "Have a Cigar," was the song. Hey, it was a long time ago and I didn't have the album in front of me. But I really liked Harper's vocals on that track. Thanks for the correction. Unlike most politicians I prefer accuracy.
There you are Lady Gaga, that's how you pull off being weird with style. And, while we are at it, Miley Cyrus, Rhianna, that's how you do sexy lady singer, without getting your bits out at every opportunity. To say nothing of quality of voice, because there will only ever be one Kate.
@ltcurry - I already acknowledged the error months ago ITcurry. See the posts here. I had not listened to that LP in years, so the faculties get foggy. I had to correct some people a few months ago about Jan & Dean actually singing lead on the Beach Boys' hit "Barbara Ann." That was a revelation. Also, for some reason, to my ears, Roy's vocals fit Pink Floyd perfectly. I wonder how many fans would have realized it was not a Floyd vocalist had they not made mentioned it on the sleeve.
@JackFox13 - Pink Floyd giving Kate some creative leash -- as a member -- would bring Pink Floyd into a new realm -- an entirely new era. She would be the fuel they would need to rekindle their legend. It would stimulate a new direction -- fresh musical ideas. I can hear Kate trade vocals with Roger & David. I find it a curiosity --but one that sounds feasible. At least for 1 LP. Other than that, maybe Lisa Gerrard of Dead Can Dance. But, Kate is already in the Pink Floyd family.
@logicreality1 she's been a world famous vocalist for over a decade now. if you're too young or have somehow missed out go on google. that's what it's for.
Because, in case you didn't read the original comment, the XFuctor was mentioned. It would appear that you are eager to throw an opinion at someone after the briefest glance in the mirror.
@teamcrumb - It was a typo teamcrumb -- my fault -- apologies to Roy. But, judging from the grammatical errors, mis-spelled words and inaccuracies that plague most UA-cam posters I feel entitled to a mistake every now and then. But, yes, you are right it's Roy Harper, and the song was Have A Cigar. Thirty years can do funny things to the memory.
If you’re here you’ve definitely dived deep into some back catalogue somewhere. Well done!
Roy Harper - one of our truly great songsmiths. understood the British malaise better than most of his generation. A proper anarchist.
Hats off to (Roy) Harper.
I thank God for David Gilmour. I Am forever grateful that he put up the money for Kate's first album
He paid for her first professional demo and presented it to EMI and they signed her to a recording contract.
Gilmour is an Atheist so...
Indeed it was D. Gilmour that 1st saw the genious in Kate.
Kate is pretty and brilliant artist, like a Gilmour is a amazing guitarrist. Thank you for sharing this diamond
I love this song, Roy Harper, Kate Bush and David Gilmour still resonate today, a true sign of genius
As Elton John once said, "Where is the next Kate Bush?" there was none, she is unique...
I've never heard this before! I'm still diving into Kate's work. It's been about 4 years now since I purchased "Hounds Of Love" & I've been in love ever since. Thank you for this!
ya agree!
@RockOnGhita I agree. Gilmour can exude such emotion in just one bend of a note. A true musician. Far greater than certain guitarists who think it's all about showing off how many notes you can cram into a bar, who don't 'feel' the music like Gilmour.
When listening to gilmour playing a solo, it feels like listening to someone telling an emotional story. Really one of a kind if you ask me.
I remember Pete Townsend paying Davis Gilmour the highest compliment, that it wasn't what he played, it was why he played that made him incredible.
She's always been the woman of my dreams....she would be perfect.I loved her since the first time i saw her. And furthermore, she 's a great musician.
You don't see too many artists like that anymore. She made some great music and is a beautiful woman as well!
Outside of performance she's pretty shy but did except some award in person only a few years back
Awesome set of Kate photos.
I always skip a heartbeat when I see Kate Bush. So lovely.
Have you seen her lately?
Not her Bush no.....not ever 😏
The pictures were so amazing it almost took away from the song...great shots of Kate not seen...
how have i never heard of this one? SO good!
Today is my first. Wow
ozenfant baxtrose Roy returned the compliment by appearing on Kate's "Breathing" off "Never for Ever". Same year as this.
oh my gosh this is wonderful stuff, yeah Mr. Gilmour, Roy Harper and Kate have taken me on a blissful journey !
Kate Bush and X Factor must never again be said in the same breath! Kate is about music and talent.
Super group - Roy and Kate
When i saw Roy in Hyde Park about the mid 70's Dave Gilmour was in his backing band along with John Paul Jones and Andy or Edgar Broughton, some backing band.
Yeah, the good old days of real talent...
How interesting!
The drummer was Steve Broughton.
love this great vocals and great guitarwork
FANTASTIC! IT'S ON ROY'S ALBUM THE UNKNOWN SOLDIER.
I,m glad to see she is back. I always loved her voice.
How come Roy Harper has worked with so many legendary musicians yet he never broke into the mainstream himself?
The closest thing is guest vocals on Pink Floyd's Have a Cigar.
Still a genius 😍 Seen his brilliance many times 🙏 Hats off to Roy.

Influenced
he never wanted to be mainstream?
Been one of my favorites for gosh, 25 or more years now?! Wow oh wow oh wow :)
Great performance, fantastic artists. And you have clearly thrown your best pictures at it as well - beautiful memories.
WOW! I never knew of this till now!!!!
Brilliant
Katie Bush my saviour I hope she knows not just mine for many............ She turned darkness into light.
Credited to Harper/ Gilmour with Kate Bush on vocals backing Roy how can this be anything but outstanding?
Beautiful beautiful
Beatiful song, I'm really proud of her parents for making such a woman
It all started when Roy said to Dave and Kate: "come in dear Dave and Kate, have a cigar!"
devishly angelic she is ....
Kate and Gilmour are the 2 greatest people in music or anything really.
I'm here just because of David Gilmour !!
¡Majestuosa canción! Me imagino cómo hubiera sonado la voz de Kate Bush en un álbum de Pink Floyd y es inevitable emocionarse de sólo pensarlo.
You're welcome. It's a great song so it deserves to be shared!
Those lyrics tho.....
You, my daring time traveller
You, love dwelling discoverer
You, you open the doors for me
And let me in
I come
You, my deep secret accomplices
You, who endure my injustices
You, you reward me kind likenesses
Bearing gifts
Of home
To new dimensions in the zoo
Helpless lovers follow you
Only you
You, my dear old companion
You, my fairest opinion
You, my sweet faithful perfection
Homin' in
Come on
You, from my seeds of eternity
You, always gently in front of me
You, you're so soft deep inside of me
And like a rock
Wooo! love this!
Wow. First time hearing this. great song
Fabulous. Thank you.:)

Great, I hope it goes well then!
Astonishing. Two great innovative and limitless talents....
Ahem, three!
Love that picture taken at De Munt in Amsterdam.

I'm so glad that I found the lyrics!!It;s such a great song and I coudn't stand not to know the lyrics!Thank you!!I really love it!!
Thanks for sharing!
Nice video!
thanks for this I have never seen some of those fotos b4
the last gasp of the classic era....
Gilmour is my hero!
@KatesPinkZeppelin Yeah, being an (obsessive!) Floyd fan, I really have Gilmour to thank for getting me into her music. I hour to Roy at the Festival Hall bet there will be some amazing guests too.
Saw him at his…xxth? at the Festival Hall, around the year 2000, great concert, holding out hope for a JP Page appearance but it was not to be.
Amazing!
@ John LaStrada - David Gilmour has worked with Kate from day one of her professional life, he pretty much discovered her and played on her first album and others.
David did indeed discover Kate when she was just 16 years old!
David was that great guitar on Running Up That Hill.
@@brianjosephcardinale7686 Only on the live version. The only album he actually played on was "The Sensual World". Plus, backing vocals on "Pull Out The Pin" off "The Dreaming" 1982.
incredible song
What a crazy talent of a woman!
I would be ascared, but some men are bolder than me.
for me she sparked desire but also a respect that makes those words of yours grate so hard
Kate and Liz Fraser made HUGE contributions to 80's sub music.. okay I'll shout out to Nina Hagen, Siouxsie, etc
Absolutely so
Long before them there was NICO: mother of all the females you mentioned.
Who is Liz Fraser? The only Liz Fraser I know is a British character actress who was in the Carry On's and Up the Junction.
Ronald Griffiths If you like ethereal music that was way ahead of its time, check out Cocteau Twins - Liz Fraser was their singer, but sadly has become somewhat reclusive
Ronald Griffiths Idiot .
Roy harper sang on the Floyd album wish you were here. Have a cigar
John Aspinall He also did backing vocals on Kate's "Breathing" off "Never for Ever" 1980. Same year as this.
@@warrenbridges1891 I didn't know that
Thanks
@@johnaspinall3200 Probably Kate's first proper prog rock release.
this is haunting.

Beautiful.

Thanks for posting this - never heard it before. Nice vid :o)
Awesome track awesome artists... All good then hu?

As a young artist in the early 80's Kate was my graduation from FM rock and roll (along with Eno and others from that obscure ilk)
Oooh, great band name.
Ladies & gentlemen....
OBSCURE ILK!!
