In this video, we'll take a look at what goes into training at fighter pilot to fly the F-16 during the F-16 "B-Course" or Basic Course at Luke Air Force Base, AZ. Two Luke AFB instructor pilots discuss the training and mindset that are involved with preparing a pilot to fly combat missions in a deployed environment or to perform other aerial combat missions.

I remember as a kid all I ever wanted to be was a fighter pilot! Then I got no excuses I just gave up on that dream :/ but it looks and I bet feels amazing
I live about 5 or 6 miles from Luke. I still act like I did when I was a kid on Luke Days where u can sit in the f16s and stuff. I used to love going down to the end of the base and watch the planes take off. and now they have those f35s. nasty. nasty. nasty. machines.

Liberty prime Robco its expensive yes, but it is the most stealth fighter jet we have, being maneuverable and able to land in several places the f-16 and the f-22 raptor can't. So it doesn't suck.
Isaiah Bryant But compared to enemy competition, it's slower, has a lower flight ceiling, has a lower range, is less maneuverable, and over all would not win in a dog fight.

You don't enlisted to be a pilot. Either college first then pilot school, which is 4 years each. Or service Academy, four years overall.

@Ben H if you’re 15 now since this comment was posted like one year ago, you should prepare, since grade 9 onwards is when you start planning on joining the Air Force. Do keep in mind, generals make 120,000 dollars a year, but you won’t always live at the base, so you might have like 75,000 dollars to spend, depending on how your lifestyle is. Hope to see you in the Air Force when I get there :)

Im sure everyone here has watched the'Top Gun' movies. To all inspiring fast jest pilots This is not Hollywood. You are bottom line a soldier with a very expensive weapon platform. Still have to go through basics keep that in mind.

What's the maximum hight like boundary in the air force for pilots because I'm sixteen and almost done with high school and I'm looking at the military but the only problem is that I'm six foot five and I'm still growing. Any info would be greatly appreciated!
TheSith Jojoson I believe a chart is on the Air Force website that lists the appropriate weight to height ratio. I can remember if 6 foot is the maximum but I think it's close. I'm 5'11" and my minimum weight is 140Ibs. and I'm about 135Ibs. as a senior in High School. So, I got some gains to make!

I don't know about USA but here in Belgium you must be between 1,58m and 1,96m height to apply as a fighter pilot

How do pilots determine what plane they fly?
If they like you, you get to fly the cool stuff, if they don't like you than you fly the crappy stuff!
Form 90, aka the “dream sheet”. If you’re top of your UPT class you get your first choice of assignment that you put on the paper (usually).

Well both, because a lot of astronauts started this way. Fighter pilot -> Test Pilot -> Astronaut, It's a pretty long journey.

What about F1 driver?
Personally don't want a job/life where my number one duty is to take orders without question to instantaneously kill large sums of people, so astronaut.
People can become astronauts without military flight training experience too, unless they plan on becoming the pilot or commander. Quite a few astronauts are civilian researchers & engineers, as well as non-pilot former military.

Awesome plane. Thing is, it's easy to kill from thousands of feet in the air, when you never have to see the pieces and hear the screams and crying. Sorry to spoil the mood. Love the plane. Not a fan of war. Just something to consider if you want to be a fighter pilot.

Listen to these proud guys talk about killing like they're head chefs in a 3 star restaurant. I have no doubts that they have been well trained, but well trained in the arts of "Shut up & be programmed". If you talk to foot soldiers, they don't brag about war like this.
