      @@xeratube Just got mine installed at my Service Center. After a ton of complaining with the reps through the app, they offered for me to come in and they offered to install it for $1011 out the door. Only took about an hour or so.

      @@xeratube also just a heads up, the new consoles do not do data so if you use sentry mode, you’ll want to look for this part “Tparts CONSOLE DATA TRANSMISSION MODULE” to get data back. It only does power now because Tesla wants you to use the USB port in the glovebox but I would imagine you don’t have it on your car since that started popping up when this console came out in late 2020.

    Seems like pulling the HV loop (or the HV connector under the seat on Model 3) and then disconnecting the 12v battery would have been the wise thing to do, so you don't risk "bricking" the computer by it waking up while you're working on it.

    I have a 2018 Model 3 and am very interested in this... You should be able to compare the old and new wire harnesses and make an adapter, ordering those CAN bus plugs from Digikey. Or you could transfer the old wire harness from the old 2018 console to the new one. The wireless charging cradle might need to be spliced in and some wires may be too short, but that would definitely work. The fact that the security component is a compatible plug is huge. Also, probably, you should have disconnected that power under the back seat before doing any of what you did. That seems to be the very first thing a Tesla Ranger does when they come to work on my car.

    I love the “warts and all” style of videography. Too many videos just completely gloss over the pitfalls and errors. You’re probably the only person who mentioned the clip for the wireless chargers needing to be in to stop it fouling the lid.
    One thing that wasn’t obvious to me is where you get power from for the wireless chargers on an older car? The new console has 2 x USB-C ports at the front, and the wireless chargers, whereas the old one had 2 ports and the removable charger plugged into them.

    • @tesbros
      @tesbros  2 роки тому +1

      Great observation. Tesla's manual on page 23 says a wireless phone charger is integrated into the front console to provide up to 15W of power to charge via inductive charging. (www.tesla.com/ownersmanual/modely/en_us/Owners_Manual.pdf)
      So, I think as long as the console is connected to the car with the CANBUS, then it has power to charge wirelessly too.

      It should be swappable. The CAN BUS connector for the 2017-2018 models and 2019-current models are different sizes. So, since you have a 2019, it should match! As for the next question, you shouldn't have to mess with anything in the glove box. The CAN BUS is actually what connects all that.

      This one did come with the data USB-c module - but this was a couple years ago. It might not anymore, so it depends on what year 2.0 console you get. Hi. What type of can bus connector/adapter is needed to upgrade 2018-2019 model 3 center consoles to the 2022 console? Is it a 20-pin (2018) to 26 pin (2019+)?

      Unfortunately, there isn't an adapter out there just yet. But I've heard from techs if you splice it, it may work. But that's not confirmed. I meant to possibly try to confirm this but didn't have the time. :( Sorry!

      @@doomam Most likely this, I posted on another comment near the top. I would assume you just got your new console, unfortunately the new consoles after a certain period of time after release do not do data so if you use sentry mode, you’ll want to look for this part “Tparts CONSOLE DATA TRANSMISSION MODULE” to get data back. It only does power now because Tesla wants you to use the USB port in the glovebox but I would imagine you don’t have it on your car since that started popping up when this console came out in late 2020.
      The part is $85, just make sure you choose the appropriate processor (Intel I imagine since AMD is on relatively newer models within the last few months.)

      @@tesbros I played with that mini-usb connector for a while since it’s easy to access on the side, with no results. It seems like there is no power since wireless charging doesn’t work as well. When I connect my thumb drive directly to that USB wire under the cover, it works. However when you plug it back in, all 4 USB ports are dead. I’ve checked the big power connector and it seem to be OK, there is a 12 V power coming in, but doesn’t seem like there is 5V present. Might be some internal breaker that was triggered during installation (I’ve unplugged 12v and under the seat connector) and could be switched back on remotely, but since that wasn’t TESLA approved upgrade, I would be liable for the payment.. even if they can fix it. I will switch back the old one and see if it works, and will go over the wiring in the new one.
