  • In this video I show you how to cut 1/16 basswood with your Cricut explore series machine. You will need a purple strong grip mat, a deep point blade and housing, and painters tape. My wood is from JOANNs.

    Hi, i am very interested to try this technique! I've seen a lot of other videis about it but the comments are always off... do you know if theres a reason that is? Is this not recommended to do by cricut or something?

      I cannot speak for others but this is not on the recommended list by Cricut. But the size is within materials you can cut so it’s worth a try.

    Is there any difference between the Deep Point blade and Deep Cut blade? I've seen both online.

    katie, I used basswood from Joann's 1/16", i set the setting on my Explore Air 2, to 350, and did two passes each of 9x, and it still didnt cut all the way. I was trying to cut a 2020 sign in thick block font. Any idea on what I should be doing different?

      And you’re sure the basswood is 1/16 and that it’s basswood?

      the second run i thought it will end up cutting through my mat, instead it was like the second run did no more cutting than the first!

      @@katieodonnell-vicente6632 so it says on the label. I got it from Joann's, I am so confused, because every tutorial I see shows it such a breeze, and here I was trying to go over the cricut cut with a blade to get cut separated from the negative space, if I tried to pop it, it broke the image based on the direction of the grain

    Hi what would you recommend the explorer 2 or the maker? X

    • @katieodonnell-vicente6632
      @katieodonnell-vicente6632  3 роки тому +1

      I always will recommend the maker over the explore BUT only if you feel you will utilize the maker to its full potential. I personally do so the investment was worth it.

      Thank so much for the quick reply; I'm wanting to use the machine to cut hot laminated card, wood for outdoor signs, puzzles and names.
      Would it be worth paying the extra 100 for a maker or could an explorer do them? Xx

      You’ll definitely want the maker for those things. You’ll also need to know how thick of wood you can cut with the maker. Here is the list from Cricut as well as lots of important information about using the knife blade!

    I’m trying to use my Explore Air 2 to cut out wood. I’m using 1/16” Basswood using the deep cut blade for the explore air 2. After I cut the wood it’s very flimsy. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

      Collette Newman wood that thin is very flimsy and depending on your design it could be even more flimsy. You can cut a few layers and glue them together for a sturdier piece

      Katie O'Donnell-Vicente Nancy Backes I’m not exactly for sure what settings to use. How many passes, pressure, etc. I’m not for sure which way the grains should go. I used 1 small sheet and I followed some videos and the 1st cut the letters just broke on the mat. I used 345...6 passes and more pressure. The 2nd time I used default pressure, 340, 5 passes and didn’t cut all the way through. Both tries, the power button blinked red.

      Michael Florant sorry to hear that. As you can see from my video, the settings do work for my machine. You may need to adjust for your machine.
