Thanks a lot sir....It helped me a lot....But anyways, in my book it is written that both the masses m1 and m2 are moving in the same direction and u1 is greater than u2 that is why m1 reaches m2 and hits it from the back....Then according to Newton's 3rd Law of Motion, m2 exerts an equal but opposite force on m1 and so their velocities become v1 and v2......never mind just wanted to share a piece of information....

Sir I suggest to solve the dynamics of Newton's cradle through shockwaves.....coz if momentum has to be conserved two balls at the end could go up with a less velocity thereby keeping the total mechanical energy and the momentum constant
