‘90s supermodel hair might be the perfect way to usher in the new year. But, the next-gen version relies on strategic layers dictated by your natural hair texture. “This year is all about soft, contoured shapes that fall gently and naturally into place, the hair should have just enough thickness to deliver a beautiful blowout. “You want round layers and volume that starts at the root. To nail the look, I suggest prepping your strands with a styler like Joico Joi Whip for extra lift.

Yeah 🤘 we need to move hair to next level 👏
YES WE DO!!!
The head shaking and aggressive brushing/combing is hysterical. Too funny.
I just snorted my coffee, yes😂
“This is how I built my business” as he’s raking her hair after a good head shake 🤣. Love this guy!
(And his explanations are very helpful!)
So simple! Just what I need 😂 Really wish this had been done on a head of straight hair to see how it looks before styling it curled though.
I agree, I have no wave to my hair at all .
If you have thick hair with lots of volume, this cut is a no brainer and takes no effort to style. I grew my hair long for the first time during the pandemic, and I came across this technique while browsing to find what to do with my hair. I tried it and loved it immediately! After years of coming out of salons dissatisfied, turns out the best cut for me is one I can do myself!
I am definitely going to try it because I have thick wavy hair and want more layers than the butterfly cut gave me. Thanks for your input ❤.
I'm old and had this haircut in the 80's, loved it then and I'm back to it now. Loving it all over again. Perfect for long thick hair
As a stylist of over 30. Yrs I love seeing these styles making a come back and thanks Paul for taking us as stylist to the next level of hair and making it so easy . Love that completely explain every about the cuts you bring our creative world .
It would be great to see it on straight hair that is then curled as you can’t really see the cut.
That’s what I’ve been missing all these years…. The Paul experience of yanking a brush through my hair and then flipping me to do the shake lol. Actually I love your videos thanks for sharing and I love pony tail cuts I’ve been doing them for a while now with your help.
Hairdresser of 32 years here and you taught me something NEW! Thank you! I love the way you break down the thought process and do elevation and length at the same time.
You are so welcome!, great to hear.
You describe it all so easy and perfectly! I'm not a hairdresser but I understand the concept behind the cut! Thank you 👍
Thank you for all your videos! You changed my life with your wolf cut, I had never been able to find someone to cut that kind of layers in my hair. I can’t tell you how many compliments I get on my hair.
I have asked for this so many times and never got it in salons here Will now be able to do it myself Thank you so much for this tutorial.
The hair brushing was the best!😂😂😂 Beautiful! 🙌🏻🙌🏻🙌🏻👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
I started doing this easy haircut during covid. It's great being able to save money and time. I have gone to the salon since, but ended up just re-cutting it with this technique :)
💝💯Stunning! Timeless style in reality. Thanks from uk Paul-
Trained as hairdresser in 80s when alot these modern versions of these cuts were created (this one more in 70s farah fawcet), but great to see various ones seen your videos about, with modern twist! Where are you based, prefer male hairdressers over yrs! Thanks! Know you'll be helping alot women, who cant afford to go to salon. Mothers who hv to cut their teenagers hair!
We appreciate your videos! ❤
Absolutely adore ur aesthetic 😻 I've never had any Cosmo classes and do all the things to my own hair, from cut, dread extensions, dye, lift, deposit, ombre, wolf cut, etc etc. Your tutorials are now the *only* "suggestions" i seek out!!🎉 i def need to share u with my audience!!!❤ Ty ty ty😊
I think your videos are very helpful to new hairdressers AND to those of us who cut their own hair at home. You are a blessing to us all. Thank you bc you could be at your salon bringing in more income in various ways.
The combing! 😂😂 what a peaceful and gentle salon experience 😂
SO happy I found you!!! Cutting my hair today and you are absolutely hilarious btw! A whole vibe for sure❤
That is how my old hairdresser used to cut my hair. (Not that method though)
Then she moved.😢
And other hairdressers don’t give me that balance of layers.
Now I can recreate that same style all by-my-self 🎉😊.
Update: I just did this cut and it turned out beautifully!❤The perfect and easy cut for my long thick wavy hair, thank you! ❤. Thank you for explaining the "why"! It makes a huge difference in remembering details when you understand the "why". You're awesome ❤!
Omg you gave me the spot, the position, I needed! I knew this cut years ago. But couldn't rmbr where to center it from. I need these layers badly now coz my hair has gotten so thin. This will add fullness. Thx.
This haircut, is what I want! It looks so beautiful!! Well done! 👍🏻
Great to hear 😊
This is GREAT,and so simple to do! I'm going to try this as soon as my hair gets slightly longer. Thank you,Paul! Love, Faith Falcone
Awesome 👍🏻
I love how you explain it so my visual/kinesthetic brain can understand 💯✅️🥳🥰
It’s beautiful!❤❤❤
I watch haircut tutorials all the time and this is the most amazing one I’ve seen yet. Genius !
Wow, thank you!
I agree
WOW, So Easy, Thanks Paul 💇♀️
Love this! ❤❤❤
Love it, your funny. I think she has a little more advantage, so it definitely rocks! But I may have missed whether or not you mentioned if the hair was naturally wavy? Definitely saved this. ❤
Would this also work for finer, thinner hair?
Absolutely stunning. X
All this haircuts are nice 💕but all are based of middle parting - it doesn’t work with side part - would be nice if you could show how to do😼
Really great haircut👍😀
Love this cut
Nice and easy 👍!!! ❤❤
Love it!
You could show us the hair before you grab it, so we could see the before & after 😊
💃 MARACAS🕺 Great & Thanx again... Gonna try It on mom tomorrow ❤️👍
Stunning master ❤
Love you Paul and the music and absolutely the hair would this work on little bit longer than shoulder length hair 🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍🤍
Thank you! I wanted to let you know that this was incredibly helpful! After having some bad experiences with other hairdressers, your video made it easy and the results were amazing. Thank you so much for sharing your expertise and helping me to achieve the look I was going for. Could you please create a video showing how to achieve the same haircut but with connected, face-framing bangs? Any tips for making the process foolproof/easy would be greatly appreciated!
Love it! That mannequin is prettier and has prettier hair than the others you have used.
Yeah, she has been on holiday, she looks rested hahah
Beautiful haircut!
I have a lot of straight hair. Please tell me how could I do waves in this haircut, using de same ponytail.
I'll would appreciate it.
The right haircut for me. ❤❤❤❤
I think this is the cut I’m going to do! ❤❤❤
Awesome
What’s the difference between cutting it in a ponytail straight up and cutting in a ponytail at more of a 45° angle?
Perfect ❤
You’re the best🎉
Paul can you please do a video of how you’d do this in salon sans pony tail?
@paulwattshair Beautiful cut Paul! I was wondering...Ive heard that square layers are preferred for finer hair... is there a way to modify this cut (angle of holding hair /cutting?)to where the layers would be square? Thank you!!
Would this cut look good on fine low density 3b curls? Or would it make my ends look see thru?
Wow even easier than the butterfly 🦋
Can you please show us how this haircut would look if you cut it shorter and shorter? Like this was after one inch, next another two and so on until your reach the ponytail. I am growing my hair out and want to just get the pony on top to be maybe 5 centimeters long to get short layers and I'm curious if it would look like I imagine it or not.
Can I do this on a bob that’s grown past my shoulders?
Paul you’re amazing! How do I know how high to take the cut? If I don’t have that length and I cut it closer to the head would that give me a wolfy vibe? And what kind of curls do I do or do I just shake my head ? 💞💞💞
Less is more. Trim those ends and what your layers appear
Will it work on curly hair?
That’s fantastic & will work for fine curls/waves? Love it, Paul! Don’t know that I could reach it myself, but I’ll give it a go. Loved the wee music exit too 😂❤
Less is more on fine curls
@@PaulWattsHair it’s not suitable? Or be careful with the chipping?
@@CL-un9ggI think he meant not to cut much off with fine curls, probably less than he did on the wavy hair. Makes sense.
@@stacyanderson1593I cut it with the bunches either side video. Had a lot of old hair to get rid of.
It is …beautiful…! ❤❤❤
T-rex version for longer pony tail please😅🙏Love the simplicity of this cut with fabulous results.
i try this......
I'm not going to unsee you as an awesome unicorn 🦄 now
thanks Unicorn Stylist
It would have been nice to see before and then after
Apparently, your salon experience is something to behold....and by that I mean survive...First, you get the cut and then you get the thinning via the maniacal brushing routine... I'm thinking you must also provide a neck brace instead of just a neck wrap.
You, dear sir, are hilarious.
It is something you'll have never experienced in your life!! 🤣
@@PaulWattsHair I wish I could come have you cut mine - I'm in NC
Does the hair need to be one length when you do this 🤔 cut?
Nice! How does this compare to the results you would get from the Manes by Mel pigtail cut if you put the pigtails right behind the ears in the middle of the head on each side?
It's completely different, Mel's is more rounded due to the pigtails, longer on top, whereas this has shorter layers
I personally hate the pigtail cut and any cut she does, I have curly hair and it looks ugly AF on my tresses.
@@PaulWattsHair , I’ve been doing the pigtail cut on myself, and you have a video of a similar cut using the two pigtails on the sides and the one on the fringe. What I like about the pigtail cut is that it’s layered but not chopped into-so the result is a smooth and gradual rounded, full shape. I thought that maybe the reason I like it is that it’s a stationary guide cut, and this pony tail cut is as well, so I thought I might like the pony tail cut too.
I would love to see a video on how the shape comes out differently based on different placements of the pigtails on the sides of the head, if you are ever interested in doing that.
This pony tail cut looks great on the mannequin!
Thanks for the great videos. I’m one who can’t find a stylist I like so am trying to learn how to do my own hair finally at the age of 52. I’ve had one too many bad cuts.
@@meowmeow1stgen668 , interesting. For me, it’s great so far. I like it that it’s smooth and symmetrical without any holes.
You Sir, are adorable!❤
How does the back look? Is it very V shaped or more U shaped?
V
Is there a kitty cut and/or butterfly cut with these voluminous layers? ❤
I'd love 💕 to see you create styles like that!
Me encantó el recorte, pero me dió dolor de cabeza 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂😂amo❤❤❤❤❤❤
How is it possible that you get a V at the back while when you cut a ponytail you get the middle shorter than the sides right?
Because your hair from the back has a longer distance to travel. It is wrapping around your whole head, starting from the neck, up to the occipital bone up and around the biggest part of your skull and still forward to the pony tail, if that makes sense... the sides have less to travel around just going softly up and around the sides to the ponytail. When the hair is in the ponytail, imagine the back section is shaped like a question mark and the sides are shaped like a parentheses. The question mark is a longer line than the parentheses... oh gosh I hope this makes sense!!! 😅
😂You put as much strength into that as if you were grooming the tail on a Shetland pony 😂
It's a stunning cut though, very mid 70's ❤️
Please, i don't have lot of hair but It's long
Will this work for me ? 🥺
You need alot of hair to have volume on this level, BUT, with a goo stylist and blow dry, you can have it!
@@PaulWattsHaircan you tell us what color hair she has as well? It’s just gorgeous
Love the cut
Will this method give you a v cut in the back
I really dont like my hair cut into a v
You didnt turn the mannequin's head around to see
It looked absolutely beautiful
the V shape would be my concern also. i like my hair blunt on the ends. It looked rounded or V shape when he shook it out.
ROFL. “Little shake” my ass!!
Love you, you make me happy 😆
My favorite part 7:45
ALSO 6:12 Wrong day to wear BLACK, eh Paul? 😆😆
Where are those white shirts and white vest and striped shirts that I DESPISE? 🤣
Would this work on straight hair too?
Absolutley, make sure youve got enough hair to allow a big blow dry
@@PaulWattsHair i have! It's all one length halfway down my back. I'll have a go myself. Thanks for getting back 🙂
Awesome!!
Beautiful...you do great hair cuts. I'd never let you rip that comb through my hair, lmao! Too funny 😂
hahaha my mannequins love it
AUAAAAAHHH!
I would love to have my whole head yanked around like that when i get a haircut. lol.
❤
was the hair originally all one length on the mannequin?
had similiar haircut in the past and after having ends cutted this way my hair were awfully bad in keeping in good terms, brushing them was awful, after cutting ends back normal way, they were easy to brush so no thx I like my hair being cooperative with me.
😊😊
I hope he wouldn’t rip through my hair with a comb like he did with that mannequin! Haha. Btw, does it work for straight thinner hair?
When you do the head shake you're going to need to put in some dance moves and a little song please
❤🎉
But you can’t see anything because I’d the curls 🤨
Check out one of my last year videos on straight hair. I often get the comment, "what's it like with curls" so for 2024 it's all about the curls.
WOW , U GET THAT W/ JUST 1 PONYTAIL.....COOL, ALSO LIKE THE COLOUR OF THE HAIR.👍U'RE FUNNY😂THAT POOR HEAD🤣✌💞
Going to grab my scissors now!
Looks great but no one has that giraffe long neck😂!
Its just for thick hair or curly wavey hair. For thin hair you look like that you have less hair
5:30 He is giving us the reason why we shouldn't go to salon😂
Queria ver sem os cachos
Brad Mondo was doing this haircut a year ago
That’s silly. It’s just barely trending.
Yeah but I can't stand watching Brad mondo so i appreciate Paul's easy going tutorials MUCH more. Besides trends are stupid. Just do what you want and don't let your life be dictated by general opinion. So boring
Not sure how this would do to thin straight blond hair lol
Volumous? I don't think that's a word. But your vid title is correct... voluminous. Why the difference
3min hair cut costs a fortune at the saloon. What a rip off!!!
paul you need to speak less, anoying!!!
Stop being rude. We love him talking and joking. If you don’t like it then don’t watch.
Beautiful haircut!
I have a lot of straight hair. Please tell me how could I do waves in this haircut, using de same ponytail.
I'll would appreciate it.
