Roro Roro - I had the honor and privilege of working with Sam for 5 years. I worked for Redken NYC as a colorist and finishing artist. Working alongside Sam was always inspiring. It was also intimidating. 😬
The perfect teacher for this day and time the way I've been cutting hair for 52 years everybody said I was born with a pair of scissors and a curling iron now on 73 too old to be able to do it you are the best teacher that I have seen for over 50 years I guess I learned from the best now you're the Next Generation best I understand everything you're saying if your cut down on one side it's going to flip if you cut up on the other side it's going to turn under your wanted to turn under if your cut down on one side cut down on the other side if you're caught up on one side cut up on the other side distance plus guide equals length would purchase your dry shares but don't know if I'm going to live long enough to use them enough I really enjoy your videos cuz everything you say makes sense there's no excuse I wish I had this platform there's no excuse for bad haircuts with you around teaching the way you teach sorry for the length I digress
I saw this technique done by a hot-shot stylist years ago on a style show. I duplicated it once. Best. Haircut. Ever!! Since then, I've been explaining this very same thing to many hair dressers. They all look at me with that the deer-in-headlights look. SO frustrating! I will be saving this video to show to a hair STYLIST in the hope that they know what I'm talking about and can do it for me.
Content Omnivore same here, it’s really sad how they don’t keep up on the classes that are providing, you never stop learning, a lot of so called stylist don’t even know how to do a basic layered cut or point cutting, it’s really frustrating.
New stylist watching this to see if there's a better way to do things than the ways I've been taught. I'm trying this out on my daughter today and I bet it turns out great. This is a lot like the V cut video I watched in school, the front sectioning and cutting is the same minus the texturizing. That cut turns out perfectly so I'm sure this will look fantastic. Thank you for all the free education you offer online. I can't understand why anyone wouldn't watch all these videos and become a better a better stylist. I'm always amazed at how many ways there are to do the same cut! Each stylist leaves their own mark on their designs. My hope is that my clients love my interpretation of the cut and that I can do what I love doing, which is make people feel better about themselves 😊
Wow. I love this. I would never dare try to cut my own hair, but am fascinated and love watching the instructional tutorials on how it's done. Then I can discuss what I want with a new hairdresser and make sure I get what I want and not what they want.
I'm a hairdresser. I cut my own hair at times. Basic cut no texturising blunt cut. I was so happy after. Even all over. My hair has thinned over the yrs. easier to cut. But you can't cut the length to the neck yourself....
Sam. Thank u so much for this video. I’m actually learning layering right now in school. We are not in person. It’s all on the web. We are using pivot point. Great info but I find your videos help me out more. Hand position. Palm position arm position. Plus all those little tops n tricks you mentioned. Thanks again. This was a great help.
If only I could find a stylist who would take the time to learn these superb techniques. It would have to be someone who strives for excellence and truly cares about executing and delivering a cut and style of this caliber. I have never found a stylist who cared enough to follow through as you have demonstrated here. You sir, have integrity and an incredible level of talent and skill. Thank you for showing how it's done.
As a former stylist I was often frustrated getting my hair done, because it didn’t seem like the stylist cared as much as I did in techniques. I realize I probably frustrated them by telling them exactly how I wanted them to do it. Ha-ha-ha! I only wish I could see the back of my head when I cut my own hair.
Gracias gracias. Te admiro un montón ♥️♥️♥️♥️
woow! this was instructive - i really lived it. The other day my friend asked me to cut her hair like that.. but i was thinking of doing it the regular way - but this is much easier ! thank you!
I love how you come up with new techniques, then share them with us!💕 I will give this one a go. Could you show us this technique with a side part please? (Would they just be disjointed from each other?)
Thats always a tough decision... sometimes it's best to still cut from center and then just adjust the balance of the perimeter lengths. Sometimes when cutting too specific to a part, it makes it so the it can only be worn in one spot. But, honestly, there is plus and minus points to both approaches. If you cut off of the part, it has to be slightly disconnected from each other.

I've begun doing vintage wet-sets and was told I'd get better results if I had a middy haircut. However, the middy is only attractive if you style it everyday... Do you think this would be a good alternative? I really hope to hear from you. Thank you in advance for your time. Kind Regards, Krystal Skye
Hi Krystal, the "middy" cut is very heavy so you are correct... it doesn't look very good if you don't take time to style it well. This could be a good alternative because the layering will have a much softer look. When styled with the rollers, it won't have quite the same vintage look to it, but will still look very beautiful.
@@samvillahair Thank you so much for responding! I'm excited to find this alternative & appreciate you for sharing your beautiful techniques & wisdom. 💇♀️❤ All the Best, Krystal Skye
