The implications of Moore's law is to make electronic chips smaller, faster and of course... Cheaper But apparently it is not the case with smartphones
The price per performance is still dropping though the cost of pushing the envelope has been starting to grow exponentially for some years now as ever more quantum headaches keep coming up trying to miniaturise transistors to ever more insane levels. It's not affecting consumer PC's and laptops as much as they have just quit even trying to keep with the cutting edge in x86 CPU tech to keep prices more stable just compare the enterprise Xeon line of x86 CPU's with the consumer i7 chips for the last few years the gap has been increasing exponentially in favour of the Xeon for a few years now. Smartphones though keep pushing the state of the art AIM chips aggressively problem is that the price per performance while improving is doing so slower than the performance of the chips is increasing so the net trend is upwards pricing. Then again if there Intel still had any real competition in the PC market then perhaps they would be doing the same probably is going to change soon though at the rate AIm chips keep pushing the envelope recently they are going to overtake even desktop x86 chips in fairly short order. Can't wait to see it happen actually wont be the first time Intel has gotten too complacent and lost the initiative to an upstart even if temporarily.
the problem with moore's law is we are nearing the end of it in regards to silicon we cannot go any smaller then 7nm before quantum fuckery sets in and you get stuff like quantum tunneling and electrons jumping to the next circuit and shit
The phone prior to my current phone was bought around 6 years ago and in total cost me around £700. When it broke a bought a new mobile phone for £170 whose performance far outweighed the previous mobile phone(except for not having a barometer or thermometer within it). You don't need to spend a lot to get a really decent Android mobile phone nowadays.
Watching this on my Galaxy Note 3. Don't see the need of chnging my phone every year. Just gonna use it until it breaks catastrophically. But if everyone be like me the phone makers will go bankrupt.
Bitch im using my xperia Z since 2013 September lul still works amazing and still looks new . i only use my phone to make calls or to use social media and texting .
Xperia Z2 here. Yes, if everyone was like us innovation would slow to the extent that everyone would still be using Galaxy Note 3s and Xperia Z2s etc. However, far from bankrupt the phone makers, it would increase their profits. R&D costs would be much lower, manufacturing processes would have become more efficient and cheaper and marketing costs would be less too. I imagine those who upgrade every year are in a minority. Perhaps the biggest growth market will be kids getting their first, good phone. Then there is the replacement market - those who lost, broke or had their phone stollen and those who had a phone fail on them.
Anas Takiyudin same here, galaxy note 4, with 2k resolution, a great camera, all note features and a ok processor, removable battery, there's no reason why I should upgrade
This is why I always buy phones with replaceable batteries because batteries get hammered on new phones. Developments in android system will prompt me to eventually get a newer phone than features on hset.
Okay its a tiny annoyance, but the part about qualcomm chips running windows and them demonstrating what is basically a mobile game, and photoshop with a single layer open and one effect added, is rather disappointing.
You need to know the limitation of the CPU. It wouldn't be advertised as a computer for gaming, but instead light gaming. Which most people would class as "Facebook gaming". I personally would use it solely for work or consumption and nothing else. (UA-cam, Twitch, Netflix, Facebook and so on)
the cyantist I would have preferred him to use example of the a11 fusion chip get in the same benchmark scores as the Intel Core i5 found in the latest MacBook Pro 13-inch models.
They already lost me when i saw 4 Gb ram. Todays Computer OS are just not made for so low capacity. We can go and use Windows 2000 properly on it yea, however there would be compatibility problems i guess, so nevermind! ;)
The cyantist You guys are missing the point. A few short years ago there was no hope of a mobile chip even loading a full os that wasn't watered down let alone opening a full unwatered down version of photo shop or a basic game. Of course they cant run the latest cod at 4k and Max stats that isn't the point!
Actually the phones are becoming cheaper. The luxury ones do become expensive. It's as same as a regular rented flat, vs the house with a pool and garden.
Because the same company that sells the $1000 phone also sells an also-new $700 phone and a series of progressively cheaper phones all the way down to the $350 iPhone SE. The iPhone X is not the new baseline iPhone - it's an ADDITIONAL product at the high end of their market. Their mainstream phone is in exactly the same price range as it was last year and no one seems to have noticed that amidst all the excitement over the X.
Have you ever heard of Cheap Knock Off or Rip Off? Like, Samsung S8 and Bluubio or whatever for 150% then Again, Even if it's not perfect, all the features that has been On that phone has been in there with somewhat perfect copy.
Have you ever heard of Cheap Knock Off or Rip Off? Like, Samsung S8 and Bluubio or whatever for 150% then Again, Even if it's not perfect, all the features that has been On that phone has been in there with somewhat perfect copy.
Connor Fin Its never been the most expensive to build. Except maaaybe the first one. They just charge more because they can. Any claims of anything else is just being bias and or naive.
Not really that expensive to make if you manufacture most of your stuff in China like Apple. They have suicide nets around some of their buildings for crying out loud. That should tell you something.
A whole circle jerk of people here that didn't even watch the video they are responding to. The lowest estimate of iPhone X material cost is well over that of the Samsung. I don't care who you prefer...that's the facts. If people could pull their heads out of their asses long enough to stop playing "teams" over brands, they could see there are real reasons to debate between platforms instead of sounding like blithering idiots who completely ignore facts presented right in front of their faces.
dilip - yeah me too, such a great channel. Been ignoring them coz not really much of a techie, but this a consumer one, and as always, great channel, great info.
yes the on board graphics are not great but if you were to use mobile chips as cpus then they would be rlly good. apple a13 for example. has more singlecore performance than an i9 9990k and runs of a battery
in my county people have to pay 4 months worth of their salary to buy iphone, our minimum salary is about 1400 tl and iphone is 5000tl and they still buy iphone and pay it in 48 months. ı am living in it it doesn't matter how expensive it gets people will buy it,because they don't need food they need a iphone to put on the table.
yes our people is weird, they don't need iphone they are just using it for facebook and whatsapp, everyone thinks if I have ıphone I will look rich also more than half of the price is tax we are paying tax of the tax -__- I mean it doesn't have to be be luxury. its like, every time we bought a phone we are also buying one for the government.
For all the cost and features, after using a couple of flagships i have found out that i just end up using them for browsing, phonecalls and a few pictures.Sure you trip over the gimmicks and new features but they soon wear off on you. I think its ego tripping that makes folks shell out huge bucks for phones not necessarily functionality or need.
High end models are like sports cars, they are built to show cast new technology, to push the limits and to impress young people. Mid range phones are like our everyday cars, it uses previous technology which is funded by High end users. Just let them make expensive high end phone, so some of us can have cheaper mid range ones.
Yeah if i have the money, i would like to buy a Bugatti. (Also, cars age well but smartphones don't). What bothers me is young people (eg: fresh grad) starve themselves (obviously exaggerated) to buy the latest phone not knowing they are paying for R&D. Most of them don't even use the latest technology, they just want to be the latest phone user.
I don't think they keep increasing the price because people will still buy a new one every year. I think the *opposite* is happening. People keep their phones for longer due to lack of innovation and brands need to increase prices to maintain the profit they made in previous years.
dr FeelGood Its not a waste, it’s a investisment. Paying 1000$ for a Iphone will garanti reliability, longevity, and ease of use. Plus, Iphones do have a lot nicer look and user interface than any other Smart phone... And did I mention IOS? It’s far more stable than any other os, user friendly, a lot lighter to run and extremely more secure. I’m not an android hater, they are, for the most part, good phones, but saying that Iphones are shit is really dumb
dr FeelGood So you are telling me every single cell phone is a waste of money? Because you dont get money back from it? You’re right on the fact that this is not a investment, but still, I believe a Iphone is worth the price...
Louis C You are right, it's an investment for one year until the next one comes out. Then here you'll be spewing the same crap to convince yourself to buy another.
Pretty much. There are so many options at different prices ranges that will serve the needs of an average consumer. There's absolutely no need to get the high end unless you just have to get the newest Iphone everytime they make one.
I personally went for one that's actually worth its price-tag due to being ruggedized with an exceptional battery life. But I prefer a phone that can take a beating, doesn't mind getting wet and wont fail me if I forget to charge it daily, also for me it's 90% just a phone as I prefer the full PC experience when I can get it, IE at home.
Yup. Xiaomi Mi A2 (Android One, SD660) FTW. Unlocked bootloader, can use custom firmware, advanced audio, etc., etc. Mi A3 is a miss, unfortunately; but, waiting for the next good one from them. :)
@Ryzvtj_ I even built a leather bracelet strap for my samsung galaxy core prime.. and now im using it as a smart watch. My Xiaomi still goin strong.. stricky following the 40%-80% battery rule with very slow charging (1A) to keep battery healthy.
SAS Productions It would be great if humanity would wise and rise against greedy corporates and our governments. Sadly their evil ways persist. And billions of dumbass sheep not only fall for it but defend and praise it
Ryan Kamal hey the price has been infalating quite a bit compared to let's say 10 years ago, but most people haven't been getting an increase in their pay
Yup Apple has a serious bank account. They can afford to sell cheaper but why bother. The stupid consumers will buy at higher prices. Samsung is doing the same too with their flagship model.
Manick N not defending any Android OEM , but luckily most of them have a price cut after a few months.. unlike iPhones since people mostly buy them for the status that"comes"with the logo.
I would pay 1000 if it's worth it, which in my case has to be more than just subjective status or taste. As a content creator I need good cameras, gimbo, audio setup and a decent i7 equivalent laptop for video editing. These things aren't cheap. If a phone can replace all of that then, great! My only fear would be how easy it is to break, lose or have it stolen....
I disagree with the reasons other than stupid people keep buying new phones when they don't need it. Phone price has pretty much doubled since Samsung Note II and what do we get for it? Mostly gimmicks. Battery is still around 3100mAh but it's made of nice glass or metal!! Eventhough most people just slap a case on their phone anyway. Oh but it's waterproof!! It's actually just water resistant and not recommended for anything other than "fresh water" as many Sony's customers found out the hard way. What else? Oh, bunch of camera gimmicks that most people don't use anyway.
Yeah, the (lame) excuse people use to justify buying a gadget they don't really need. "I need the latest and greatest to watch UA-cam, check social network, listening to music, browse internet, play Candy Crush... Oh and the best camera to take shitty snapshots and selfies that I completely ruin with filters."
Oh yes!! Now my instagram app can open 0.5 second faster!! This iPhone X is so worth the $1900 I spent on it!! And how much different is the camera in this year's flagship compared to last year's? Not much at all. I bet any money you wouldn't be able to tell the difference.
If you have a Samsung, you're either smart enough to know that Android is better than iOS or you just have one because they're a bit cheaper than iPhones
Most of the money you pay for the iPhone X does not go into the quality of your phone, but to Apple's profit margin to keep its share holders happy. Keep that in mind when you pay for that overly priced mediocre facepad.
Four months ago, EUR/USD pair was 1.08. Today it's 1.19. Not all currencies are getting weaker otherwise we wouldn't be able to tell that they are getting weaker. Inflation is steady but maybe incomes have stayed more or less the same over the years which makes you think that there's a loss in buying power. Beeh, who cares anyway.
KILLERMEMESTAR step back a few years and those things will seem pretty incredible 😄 That said, I put mine through the ringer... Glad to have every last drop of power!
I disagree with you dagogo. People don't want gimmicky new features every year. They want better experiences and longer phone support. Most people use their phones for atleast 2 years. There are people who use it for longer too. Nothing can justify the prices of the note 8 or the Iphone X. I mean, how much can you even do on a small screen ?
ImJaoquínTheDog that's because they're not making their own money for it. Once they get to college, and have to restrict everything, they'll understand how much they're actually paying for stuff like smartphones etc.
ImJaoquínTheDog Excuse me but not all teenagers are brainless. Some of us can actually see the bigger picture of what we actually want from our products.
apple is getting ridiculous. like the headphone jack sure maybe it is abit outdated and probably would have been replaced at some point anyway but it was removed from the iphone too soon. but that i can somewhat forgive with the rise of wireless headphones and Bluetooth replacing the need for a aux cord so it isnt a deal breaker. but the fingerprint scanner i dont get why cant i have both a fingerprint scanner and facial recognition. if samsung can do it why cant they. thats one feature that should not be removed at any point in time
Exactly, the obvious reason. They can get away with it. The actual question he proposes is stupid. Why? He doesn't actually have the answer, just a bunch of assumptions that attempt to legitimize the reason for the cost. Not the actual reason which is correct, Greed.
M Ragunathan no, I just want the thing I'm using all day long to be high quality. If you're going to use something all day long, you should be getting the best.
The title caught me attention when i saw it in my notification because daigo (sorry for wrong spelling) really does alot of research before making a video and has right point every fucking time. Sometimes ill just watch his videos and assume that its been said by a expert and never really cross-check the facts myself. I just accept all to what he says. Great work man Love u. Keep posting such videos. Edit: i also get to know alot of new stuff by watching cold fusion videos. This happens every fucking time.
IPhone 10, a so-called "Premium Phone" with a price tag of 1200$-1800$ that doesn't have a headphone jack and you actually have to pay 80$ more to use the BRAND NEW FEATURE Wireless Charging
You also have to buy a USB-C charger for the new iPhones since they support fast charging BUT they DO NOT come with the needed fast charger lol Only the ancient slow charger.
Fash Pone yes they had these features first but when Apple does it, it influences all businesses to integrate wireless charging. Look at Apple Pay. They weren't the first but it's huge now because of them.
Not really I think, I'm not sure now, but I think (pixel 2 = $850) vs. (i phone x = $1000). That's a 15% difference. i guess it's an abstract thing. $150 does not seem like much to $1000. To me, anyway.
Edwin Infante Leocadio lol now they are gonna see that even the new pixel2 and pixelxl2 will be a bit of a bargain. #Pixel to #Pixel2 will Google answer your most important questions of a smartphone ua-cam.com/video/KH40hugdnZs/v-deo.html
Sorry, I didn't mean to sound high and mighty, i live on a disability check. I got limited resources. I'm not getting either phone. But I do have a nexus 6p and I enjoy it. Battery sucks. but they all do. There will be wireless power soon. Google it, it's a good read.
The fact that we can now get nearly desktop-level performance out of smartphone hardware is nothing short of incredible! If you think about it, the phone is arguably the most challenging form factor to design for: it's very small, has no fans or other active cooling systems, and must be built as thin and lightweight as possible. And yet users expect their phones to have a battery that can last all day, a screen bright enough to be easily viewed in broad daylight, enough computing power to play videos games, an internet connection that's fast and stable enough to stream HD movies, and a camera with capabilities that rival those used by professional photographers. Not even counting all the other more recent innovations (like VR/AR capabilities and built-in "artificial intelligence") This is an extremely daunting list of demands from such a compact device, and the fact that all of these have not only been made possible, but widespread, is a testament to the sheer ingenuity and expertise of smartphone designers and makers. Truly some of the most brilliant engineers in our modern world.
I'm not changing my presently working older cell phone. // Hereafter, and further more, suspicious of any inanimate object labeled or described as "smart."
And still the top computer industries use iMac and iPhone that is because they need a secure software and not a open based server like android which easily hack able
Please don't go around saying that android is easily hackable. Cheap, bad software that uses android has given android a bad reputation. There are loads of decently priced, good Android devices
The phone I am using right now is a cheap Android phone you have never heard of, but it is pretty secure, has an amazing camera four times better than the iPhone 10 and tonnes of other features like second space, split screens and more
Dude iphones have been expensive since day one. IT OVEPRICED! evev if apple gets the components for free they would sell it for 1000 dollars. I will never get the iphone craze.
People need to understand that Apple has always overpriced their products. Some of you may remember the kid in school who boasted about having a Mac system in the late 80's - a sure-tell sign that their family was rich. All the while, your family could only afford a C64 and barely at that too.
because apple is a designer brand (compare it to high fashion brands like lv or gucci , versace etc)sometimes they have the same quality as cheaper alternatives but you pay for the brand and the feeling that u got something special thats why.
I was an Apple iPhone fan boy but ... the last 3 years iPhones are the same bland outdated design with no headphone jack and basic lcd screen .. i want more from apple for less than $900 Android has caught up and innovated and have what i want -- LGv30 im comming for you baby!
Usually a better CPU and better camera, but not by much. The most significant gains are in graphics and RAM. If your phone ships with twice as much RAM as it needs when new, it will have exactly as much RAM as it needs in 3, 4, or even 5 years. A low-end or midrange phone with 1-2GB of RAM will be unpleasant to use with a large amount of apps installed in just 2 years' time. Graphics cards are very important too, because they usually don't last long in smartphones. By that I mean a midrange GPU, even on a device marketed for gaming, will be unable to play the latest games without overheating within 6 months, if you're lucky. 2 versions of Android down the road, toward the end of the OEM's update cycle, it will struggle even with the latest version of material design. A high-end GPU will stay reasonably cool while playing the latest games for 1-1.5 years, and will run Android well basically forever. My rooted HTC One M8 still runs like new, and will continue to for as long as somebody makes replacement batteries, though I gave it to my sister and got a used Galaxy S7 because the camera was starting to show its age. It was great in its day, as good as the average Best Buy point-and-shoot at the time, but now everyone's phones, even the cheap ones, take such good pictures that mine looked like a bluish, dark blurry mess by comparison. Cameras don't change much from model to model, but over the course of several years, the difference is night and day. If you plan to keep your phone as long as you possibly can, a flagship is still by far the best value, especially since you can get them with minor cosmetic scratches, none of which are on the screen, for 50%-70% off on Ebay and Amazon. 4 years down the road, you'll still love using it.
Sean Kurth which mid-range phone even sells with 1-2 GB ram anymore 😂. Even with OEM skins 3-4 GB ram is kinda the standard. Atleast in Asian markets. And I'm pretty sure the purpose of a mid ranger isn't to sustain for 4-5 years, heck people even with flagships change their devices every 1-3 years max. So if you are like me, Someone who likes to change every so often. The mid range area is perfect (mid range as in like 250$-350$ ish) and as much as you could say that innovation comes with flagships, now these "flagship features" are usually passed down to the new mid rangers that come soon after. Eg- infinity display/ 18:9 ratio, debut on uh.. some flagship (I forgot sorry) and now maybe a year later max (infinity hype is 2017 though) LG Q6 with that 18:9 ratio at like 250$
Sean Kurth I don't disagree with you. I'm a photographer so I don't see myself spending shit tons of money on a high end phone. I'd rather use that money to buy top end lenses and accessories. Atleast for my usage a top end phone doesn't make any sense. To each his own I guess. But still I'd rather change mid range phones every two years and still be left with some money than splurge on a high end phone and be stuck for few years.
Sean Kurth The one problem you seem to have ignored is that you can no longer hold on to a flagship phone for 4 years, since the battery in them can no longer be replaced. So once that dies, good luck finding a shop that can replace it. And if they do, you will get charged a lot and possibly end up with a shitty chinese knockoff battery.
ok, for you maybe... but you represent something like 0.1-0.01% of the population... vs over around 70-99% of the people who use their mobile phone dozen of times more a day than their gaming PC...
There are still people who want the latest and greatest but I think that crowd is thinning out because phone innovation from gen to gen isn't a large gap like it once was. Will see continued demand for cheaper smartphones
"The smart phone industry is one of the only sectors where the consumers constantly expect innovations and new features every year" No, but if they don't do it there wouldn't be a reason to get a new one. And practically speaking, almost no normal person actually needs most of those upgrades
FYI In Italy the iPhone X starting price is 1,420 $ and let's be honest, the majority of people that buy an iPhone is because they feel cool and "because it's Apple, duh", since the top task they perform is playing candy crush. Apple prices are all the same no matter if there's Black Friday or things like that, but still, people buy and buy... Ok, in US prices are better than here, but still pretty high (in Italy a MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar starts at around 3,500$, like WHAAT!?! Which has only 256GB of storage, that's insane!) At least where I live, Samsung have good deals if you want to upgrade your smartphone, for instance now they offer 352$ if I give them my S7 and I buy a S8 or S8+ or Note 8.
You're not lying about the iPhone x part, but about the s8+ party you are. It's 869 Euros for an s8+. The only way you would be buying that phone at that price is if it's locked to a specific carrier.
Argf what do you mean "lying about the S8+ part"? I've never mentioned the price of the S8+ if you read carefully. I just said that if I want to upgrade from my S7 to a S8 or S8+ or note 8, Samsung is willing to give me 352$ for my S7 (final price for a new device = price of the new device - 352$)
Fly Intercourse it would be great! But sometimes you pay for the brand. At least now there're brand like OnePlus, Xiaomi, etc that have good high end hardware products for decent price compared to other company... not to mention the fact that the average person uses around 50% of the hardware power, meaning that they don't need an high end product at all
I stick with my phone for around 5 years, I don't buy and don't want to buy new phone every year. I can justify yearly phone updates if the price of the phone is below 150 USD.
People love to complain about the high end phones but : 1/ They have all price options from multiple brands 2/ Older phones are super capable 3/ No one forces them to buy yearly phones. They last 3-4 years no problem
The problem for me isn't how much money it is, its how long it will last. If i buy a $1000 Samsung phone, It better last me 5 to 10 years, just like a $1000 computer would. If its only going to last me 2-3 years, which is what apple claims an average phone will last, Id much rather buy a $400 phone that has (almost) all the bells and whistles because either way, ill need to upgrade in 2 years.
Depending of what you do, it can last you a long time. If you only use it for texting, camera, facebook and instagram, for sure you can use it for many years. The same with the PC, if you are using it only for youtube, music, movies and documents, for sure it will last you a long time... but if you want something more pro (like gaming, programming, video processing) for sure you'll need to change it more often if you want great performance.
Still using a Note 3 from 2013, heavy-use, works perfectly fine. The key is the removable battery since batteries can only last 500 or so recharge cycles before crapping out. And a memory card slot helps keep it future proof for storage purposes.
yeah the old galaxy notes were really robust. I´ve used my note 1 for 4 years before it started dying every time i would take a photo. replaced the batteries 4 times and the chip with the charger 2 times but hey spares are only 12€ or so :D

Jothish FX watching this from my xiaomi redmi note 3 pro.. I've got it over a year now and I get it 130€.. still a beast I can't see a reason to go on a higher price
Nowadays a $200 phone is actually usable. I had to suffer through my highschool years with a couple of those ultra cheap early Android (Gingerbread) phones that casually froze for half a minute if you overloaded the 300mb of ram they had. Finally getting an Oneplus 1 in college was such a bliss.
My problem with people spending this much on these phones is the fact that it's such overkill. Yet when I used to work one and build computers no one wanted to spend over $300 for a machine that they were going to do just as many tasks with. Now, somehow those same people(the masses) have no problem dropping $1000 for a phone. Yet, most only do a few tasks with it. Text, Facebook, Instagram, and pics. I don't get it. I usually know more about their phone than they do.....and I've never owned an iPhone. Heck, I used to get iPod owners asking me to help or fix them. Yet I was using the cheaper mp3 players. My current phone is a Moto G5 plus. On Amazon it was $180. I don't see why these people spend the money when something like the G5 is even overkill for them.
Marketing man, marketing... the companies make them think their phone is amazing, top quality, premium, etc. And they want that. Why? Because they want to have "the best" phone and for sure, let their friends to know that, so they can feel better about their acquisition + some extra self confidence. What are you saying it's really sad, really. These phones can do a lot of stuff and they buy them and use them like a $100 phone. That's like buying a GTX 1080 ti and play on a 720p 15 inch monitor.... or buy a Ferrari and drive only with 40km/h.
Watchandjewelryloft phones are more convenient and can be taking anywhere at anytime it's became another appendage to the masses. A desktop computer on the other hand is not. The common folk would rather have a phone rather than a computer these days
not really there is not much features the iphone has over the moto g5s or whatever phone he is using , maybe just few like face id and AR capability and thats it. most people buy it just to look cool or to be in the "me too gang"
My price target is exactly $200. I generally like to get as close to that price as possible, and tend to pay within $30 of that target. Sometimes $30 over, sometimes $30 under. I find that it's the most practical price point. Whether you get a 2 year old flagship device, an off-brand phone, or a second-tier model that's not quite a flagship, there's usually a good phone around that price point. Unless you really need some cool feature that the latest iPhone or Samsung phone is offering, you're probably being sucked in by the branding. You don't need a high-end phone to run Skype, watch UA-cam, listen to music, text message people, or use Facebook.
I feel that it is ridiculous that the hardware in all mobile devices these days are much greater that what is actually need to run any app, the cost is greatly influenced more on marketting gimmicks and hardware/firmware which no one needs really than what is actually need and the quality for example 108mp camera with x30 time zoom really!!! Micro zoom I mean I doubt anyone would even use 50% processing power of a phone which these days are powerful enough to run computers, i don't know about cost of parts coz iphone has about 4gb ram and all hardware is lower than most Android phones yet they cost more than Android you may say r&d but both samsung and iphone brand spend plenty on r&d yet there is a huge price difference price to performance
·AdzyFee· well 30$ is 1month's expenses for some people in Africa and 10000$ for someone with a high paying job. Food is also more valuable to a hungry person. So why should an iPhone not be reasonable at 1000$ for some people, maybe not to you but for others?
_ psychø you totally missed the point. You re too young to have a broad perspective. To a hungry African all he cares in his day is food because he might die of starvation, to that person a phone of 10$ is ridiculous to even think about. To a salesman/politician or any status valuing person, trying to show you are a man of high status is also essential and 1k or 2k phones are a higher priority than to you.
Your video was a very good one... All of the world except USA, seem to be realizing that they can sell their mobiles for a cheaper price... The more phones sold equals the more that company is put forward equaling the more people want to buy the mobile... I know that mobiles are becoming the same as each other... what is making it very hard to sell your company... so for that reason I think that the length of mobiles will gradually fall, until mobile phone will be as popular as cord phones... People will want a different way of getting in contact with whomever, so unless they are to meet face to face the best ways will be Meta 2, Microsoft Hololens or ODG glasses... Just those three names will be the start of a new fabulous way of interaction between everyday life
@@hehepods35162 It's a shame that headphone jacks are getting removed from Samsung's flagships now. I ended up buying a Sony Walkman 1A as a secondary device because I wasn't getting the most out of my Focal Stellia with a dongle attached to my Note 10+.
1000$ for a phone that will be outdated few month later and lose half of it's value i think it's dumb to pay Apple that sum of money just to fit in society and look "cool". do some research and I'm sure you'll find many cheap phones with amazing specs for fraction of the price .Be smart think different yes i quoted that from Apple.
Iphones actually hold their values pretty good. At least where I live you can sell them for money not for pocket change. Even an older one, like a 4 or 4S worth enough if you sell it that you can buy a new decent, up to date chinese or lesser known brand phone and Apple doesn't even supports them anymore.
Robin Holmquist another video on UA-cam explains it a bit more- I think it's called 'why Apple needs samsung.' I don't know why you expect me to have a source when you couldn't be bothered to check my claim yourself. (just know I wouldn't intentionally lie about petty stuff like this)
I have a Samsung Galaxy S4 Mini and I'm comfortable with it. Many of my friends mock me because I'm the only one with a cheap phone, but in the end I can make fun of them when they drop their phones from just 2 feet high and the screen breaks. I've dropped my phone so many times and it's still not broken. The only thing that annoys me is the small screen, but I save my money for more important things like my drivers license (Which is really expensive in Germany) or a high end Pc, since I enjoy gaming.
Remember, a phone is essentially disposable tech. It doesn't last that long due to the unlimited possibilities of breaking or losing it. I personally will never pay so much for an iPhone, even though I have owned every major version of the phone. I am not a cultist fanboy, and have decided to look at alternatives to Mac and iPhone for the first time in 10 years. It's just not the same company anymore. They can only make overpriced, latently-featured, poorly designed shit since Tim Cock took over. I mean look at that fucking iPhone X notch and the protruding rear camera since iPhone 6. Steve Jobs would have fired the twats that would have had the audacity to present that. And don't get me started on the Mac range. Look, Apple IS going to fail completely in the near future. It has happened before, and a similar pattern of decline is revealing itself again. But what do I know? I'm just a dumb fuck consumer in their eyes. Being a creative pro, the situation sucks worse. But anyway, time to jump ship.
Well technically any phone can last up to a good ten years, the thing is that tech companies like Apple and Samung are evil assholes that limit the longevity of their phones. This way consumers will always be forced to buy a new phone every two to three years. The practice of planned obsolescence should seriously be banned and companies that do it deserve a big fine.
I'm like you. Been an iPhone owner for years - all bought under $300 but had to sign 2-year contract. They don't have that option anymore, so my family will only be able to buy used phones from now on. Apple has already priced itself out of our market.
Hi It's Me Mind Your Own Business Well, it depends on how you look at a phone. If I were looking at it as if I were judging a book by it's cover, that's the conclusion I'd come to. However, looking at the utilities that the top-of-the-line super-phones have (dual-lens pinky-sized cameras with dedicated processing chips, 1440p display, ect), then I think it's worth the price tag (as pointless as most of these features are).
The implications of Moore's law is to make electronic chips smaller, faster and of course... Cheaper
But apparently it is not the case with smartphones
MingforPM we are nearing the limit. Apple's A11 processor is 10 nm.
the problem with moore's law is we are nearing the end of it in regards to silicon we cannot go any smaller then 7nm before quantum fuckery sets in and you get stuff like quantum tunneling and electrons jumping to the next circuit and shit
MingforPM we will hit a pot ehole and the size of the chip will stay the same and prices will go down again
Enter monopolies.

Anas Takiyudin every phone gets slow after fe2 months
World can give any logics or reasons... There is no point these prices are justified.....
Real reason of this pricing is:- brand power + greed
greed? I think every companie's main focus is to maximize profits, that's not greed, that's simply the reason companies exist.
No, the real reason is, people are still buying.

Apple is not Samsung or any other phone company when it comes down to making a range of cheap phones you fool.

RY 82 good yea,i agree with you.
thats why s7 is a high end phone with a good price around 400€ gg

Apex Devil Then everyone also wants the latest flagship smartphone. They're both luxuries that you don't have to have.
Diogo Almeida - Hmm, interesting way to look at it.
Diogo Almeida Totally yes
They may also be increasing prices to add new, expensive gimmicks.

Its not a waste, it’s a investisment.

Yup Apple has a serious bank account. They can afford to sell cheaper but why bother. The stupid consumers will buy at higher prices. Samsung is doing the same too with their flagship model.
not improved, audio jack missing, fingerprint scanner missing, repeat: not improved, just different

IPhone 10, a so-called "Premium Phone" with a price tag of 1200$-1800$ that doesn't have a headphone jack and you actually have to pay 80$ more to use the BRAND NEW FEATURE Wireless Charging
You can buy wireless headphones for like 10$ and charging pads for 13$
You also have to buy a USB-C charger for the new iPhones since they support fast charging BUT they DO NOT come with the needed fast charger lol Only the ancient slow charger.
Fash Pone yes they had these features first but when Apple does it, it influences all businesses to integrate wireless charging. Look at Apple Pay. They weren't the first but it's huge now because of them.
living meme exe no one is claiming it's a new feature
zaksor parkour considering that at times they didnt even give you a charger with 300$+ ipods, i that doesnt surprise me at all 🤣
People were crying about the price of the Google pixel. Now the pixel compare to the iPhone is a bargain.
Not really I think, I'm not sure now, but I think (pixel 2 = $850) vs. (i phone x = $1000). That's a 15% difference. i guess it's an abstract thing. $150 does not seem like much to $1000. To me, anyway.
VanGilder Michael to you is not. But ask a poor person or a kid working in McDonald's if 150 dollars 💵 is nothing
Edwin Infante Leocadio lol now they are gonna see that even the new pixel2 and pixelxl2 will be a bit of a bargain.

It's apple. What can you expect??

Apple lovers are rich in money...and poor in knowledge !
Yes and they use the screen and cpu from samsung and samsung is the daddy
You do know there are expensive androids to.Apple users aren't the only ones poor in knowledge
As long the apple company has more then 200 billion + i think it is over priced lol
Note8: $950
999$ compared to 939$ Samsung?
Hey I really appreciate you making this video and addressing the issue. Much respec for u brooo!!!
I was an Apple iPhone fan boy but ... the last 3 years iPhones are the same bland outdated design with no headphone jack and basic lcd screen
.. i want more from apple for less than $900
Android has caught up and innovated and have what i want -- LGv30 im comming for you baby!

Because there will always be millions of suckers.
Seriously apart from the ego factor what benefits does a top end phone offer that a mid range doesn't?
Eg- infinity display/ 18:9 ratio, debut on uh.. some flagship (I forgot sorry) and now maybe a year later max (infinity hype is 2017 though) LG Q6 with that 18:9 ratio at like 250$
Pradhyumna Gupta mid range are shit
Sean Kurth I don't disagree with you. I'm a photographer so I don't see myself spending shit tons of money on a high end phone. I'd rather use that money to buy top end lenses and accessories.
Atleast for my usage a top end phone doesn't make any sense. To each his own I guess. But still I'd rather change mid range phones every two years and still be left with some money than splurge on a high end phone and be stuck for few years.
Sean Kurth
The one problem you seem to have ignored is that you can no longer hold on to a flagship phone for 4 years, since the battery in them can no longer be replaced. So once that dies, good luck finding a shop that can replace it. And if they do, you will get charged a lot and possibly end up with a shitty chinese knockoff battery.
I say 1000 dollars is too much tbh I can build a decent gaming desktop for that cost
u can build an amazing gaming pc for that!
True that
But you do not carry around your PC gaming, and you do not use your PC gaming 50 times a day.
speak for ur self my gaming lap top is very powerful and since i do game dev at uni i do probs use it 50
times a day xD
ok, for you maybe... but you represent something like 0.1-0.01% of the population... vs over around 70-99% of the people who use their mobile phone dozen of times more a day than their gaming PC...
There are still people who want the latest and greatest but I think that crowd is thinning out because phone innovation from gen to gen isn't a large gap like it once was. Will see continued demand for cheaper smartphones
"The smart phone industry is one of the only sectors where the consumers constantly expect innovations and new features every year"
No, but if they don't do it there wouldn't be a reason to get a new one. And practically speaking, almost no normal person actually needs most of those upgrades
it would be still neat if manufactures release some niche stuff like sliders with qwerty keyboards
I'll stop at $93,000.
Garrettdx1988 lol
I'll stop whenever I have to.
Then you'll get the iPhone 12
FYI In Italy the iPhone X starting price is 1,420 $ and let's be honest, the majority of people that buy an iPhone is because they feel cool and "because it's Apple, duh", since the top task they perform is playing candy crush.
Apple prices are all the same no matter if there's Black Friday or things like that, but still, people buy and buy... Ok, in US prices are better than here, but still pretty high (in Italy a MacBook Pro 15" with Touch Bar starts at around 3,500$, like WHAAT!?! Which has only 256GB of storage, that's insane!)
At least where I live, Samsung have good deals if you want to upgrade your smartphone, for instance now they offer 352$ if I give them my S7 and I buy a S8 or S8+ or Note 8.
Genes LOL 200$ for an S8? Only the material to produce it is more than that... keep dreaming man! 😁
People love to complain about the high end phones but :
1/ They have all price options from multiple brands
2/ Older phones are super capable
3/ No one forces them to buy yearly phones. They last 3-4 years no problem
No no no! I am entitled to a new phone, the bestest one available, every time a new phone comes out! Let me speak to your manager! Lol
@@slackerman9758 😂😂😂
I´ve used my note 1 for 4 years before it started dying every time i would take a photo. replaced the batteries 4 times and the chip with the charger 2 times but hey spares are only 12€ or so :D
today $1000 computer last you decades
Yagami 0128 exactly! And a phone should be the same way!
the pixel isn't cheap though

For me $200 phone is more than enough. But I'll always have a small nokia in my pocket.
Jothish FX watching this from my xiaomi redmi note 3 pro.. I've got it over a year now and I get it 130€.. still a beast I can't see a reason to go on a higher price
Ηλιας Λευκιας I am also using the same phone
Nowadays a $200 phone is actually usable. I had to suffer through my highschool years with a couple of those ultra cheap early Android (Gingerbread) phones that casually froze for half a minute if you overloaded the 300mb of ram they had. Finally getting an Oneplus 1 in college was such a bliss.
It even has a bigger battery than the iPhone😂
They can't carry around a computer and show off the shiny fruit that it doesn't have
Watchandjewelryloft phones are more convenient and can be taking anywhere at anytime it's became another appendage to the masses. A desktop computer on the other hand is not. The common folk would rather have a phone rather than a computer these days
PoloBoyPrince I'm not questioning that. Guess you missed my point.
not really there is not much features the iphone has over the moto g5s or whatever phone he is using , maybe just few like face id and AR capability and thats it. most people buy it just to look cool or to be in the "me too gang"
500-600 EUR is for me already very expensive.Still having my Huawei P8 since it came out.
"..much cheaper alternatives....Google Pixel lineups", It's funny how the pixel quickly rocketed in prices. Still, best value for you dollar.

I'll give you another fragment. Bigger Price People Buy.

0:00 thx for telling me I'm watching, didn't realize
It will be very hard for me to go over $700 for any smart phone.
You don't need a high-end phone to run Skype, watch UA-cam, listen to music, text message people, or use Facebook.
make a video how big is cold fusion
Because why not
Latkar Would you rather pay 600€ or 1000€ for the same, new flagship?

Rich Voice. U can dub for action movies. Superb Video. ☺👌
Still no excuse to pay that much for a phone
·AdzyFee· Why not?
Different way too much
·AdzyFee· well 30$ is 1month's expenses for some people in Africa and 10000$ for someone with a high paying job.
Food is also more valuable to a hungry person. So why should an iPhone not be reasonable at 1000$ for some people, maybe not to you but for others?
Different so food is not valuable to you? Would you rather live using iPhone x for one week then die or use it's money to survive for a few months?
_ psychø you totally missed the point.
You re too young to have a broad perspective.
To a hungry African all he cares in his day is food because he might die of starvation, to that person a phone of 10$ is ridiculous to even think about.
To a salesman/politician or any status valuing person, trying to show you are a man of high status is also essential and 1k or 2k phones are a higher priority than to you.
Time to keep older versions longer. Or buy used.
Just those three names will be the start of a new fabulous way of interaction between everyday life
*My phone has a headphone jack.*
*It's ancient*

@@hehepods35162 It's a shame that headphone jacks are getting removed from Samsung's flagships now. I ended up buying a Sony Walkman 1A as a secondary device because I wasn't getting the most out of my Focal Stellia with a dongle attached to my Note 10+.
@@JacksonWalter735 yea its true but lmao i commented that a year ago
Asus?

Yep! Each new emoji costs $30.

isn't the Iphone X so expensive because they buy the screen from Samsung?
SuperFaroeIslands yeah that's a part of it, Samsung make Apple pay over 100 dollars per screen
Zooper really bruh -_- where have you heard that and can you show the sorce?
Robin Holmquist actually apple pays 170$ for that amoled screen. And iphone x cost of materials is 400$. This time samsung is fking apple
Robin Holmquist another video on UA-cam explains it a bit more- I think it's called 'why Apple needs samsung.' I don't know why you expect me to have a source when you couldn't be bothered to check my claim yourself. (just know I wouldn't intentionally lie about petty stuff like this)
is this real? lol apple is a joke
Motorola Moto G (gen1) started the trend for affordable value for money smartphone. Still using it! :)😄
I think apple is going down the road since steve jobs passed away...
Ozzybux Just build a Windows computer! install windows 7 onto ot and you're good!
G S You know what they say, the rich are getting richer.
I do not see any smartphone worth $500 let alone $1000 but more power to people willing to buy them
Hi It's Me Mind Your Own Business Well, it depends on how you look at a phone.
The oneplus 5 is $500. And its amazing. You get a DESKTOP grade processor for that price in something that fits in a pocket. It IS worth the price.
LoL this channel is cute. See the world from the eyes of a guy with purple glasses.
