great tutorial! i usually just use a double hitch to finish mine but i like yours, nice and clean. my fg has held up to fish 2oz to 30lbs, my go-to connection👍🏼
Thanks ish! Yea that rizzuto finish cranks the finish down onto the FG really nicely and it’s clean and doesn’t loosen over time. And lol what fish was 2oz!?
Love this knot, I usually give 15 per side so 30 all together, an then I’ll double up on that loop knot, an wet it all before the cinch, but the knot is definitely worth tyin even if it does take an extra 5 mins, an when I’m on my boat I’ll do the double uni to uni knot, there’s pretty much a different knot for every application, but the fg is my go to 🤙🏼🤙🏼, stay safe brotha
You are absolutely right. In a pinch that double uni is a great join! 20 wraps has been good for us. 30 is fine. The lighter the line the more you’ll want for that cinch down grip to hold. It’s funny because when the braid snaps before the FG, it’s satisfying knowing your knot held
To each their own brotha, I don’t think there’s a wrong way to do it, unless your doin it wrong if that makes any sense 😂, a lot of people try an avoid the fg cause it is one of the most difficult but yet strongest an worth the tie, peace brotha
Legit vid brother. I'm tying up my surf rig today and always use a double uni. Looking forward to tying this FG knot. Where did you pick up those lure clips? See ya down the road brother.
Thank you so much! The fg is much stronger because the braid acts like a Chinese finger trap at the fg. Give it a shot! Take your timer with it. Everything we use can be found at kit.co/Hook2cook
I have that double uni also, dings my guides though when I cast, I think it’s really limiting the distance. I believe I had the Alberto knot before this current setup.
@@Hook2Cook took some practice but looks real clean. Hitting a laval jetty Sunday for stripe perch, Lings, and some red tails. This knot slides through the guides so we'll. Good looking out brother!
Nice video!! Really appreciate what you are doing with these instructions videos. I just started fishing and I followed your advice. Got me a okuma celilio 962mla with daiwa BG 4k. Also went with FG to 20lb braid to 20lb floral. First time at the surf with this set up throwing LC super glow and had alot of wind knots. Any advice on how to reduce wind knots and casting that LC far?
I feel like when I don’t use a swivel surf fishing I get line twist really bad, I throw lures as well. Not necessarily the first or second trip but by the third trip it’s happening real bad, getting caught in eyes and whatnot during casting. Do you do anything to help prevent this?
Sorry I’m communicating with you thru UA-cam bro, it’s cuz I don’t have social media like I told you and don’t want to text you thru your personal phone for your space 😊 but good luck with your dad today and I’ll trade you for some perch for toilet paper!😜
Yea anytime. The fgs advantage is you’re not doubling over your leader material like the RP therefore making it thinner. The wraps on an fg act as a Chinese finger trap and tighten as it’s pulled as well. Very strong and thin. Back to doubling up that leader, when you go above 8# test it really makes a difference with micro guides like on the Phenix! Thanks for the compliment and the support!🙌
One last thing to add is the rp is mostly used in situations where you let line go- not necessarily for accuracy and distance casting. Also typically on rods with larger guides.
Sorry, didn’t realize I was commenting under my wife’s account. I sort of see your point, but, the knot thickness is negligible, especially with how involved that knot is. An easy option is just to shorten your top shot. Plus, the RP’s strength connecting braid to flouro has never been questioned, at least to my knowledge. I mean everyone should fish with whatever gives them confidence, and I’m sure you believe in that knot which I respect. I just think the involved nature of tying that one is a little much.
Hahah almost typed - bro and saw Hilary... those are two separate topics- form and function vs ease and convenience. There’s an application for each. In fishing there’s 3 ps. Preparation, presentation and placement. Setting up this knot falls into preparation- which we fishermen do a lot of anyway... also once you get it down, it’s can be done in 5 minutes or less. This video is a little slowed down with all the explaining. But to address the thickness- it’s also a matter of where your tag end is pointing. When you cast the rp (with velocity) it’ll bang every guide on the way out. With the fg, the leader tag faces the reel so there’s less resistance. The only time the fg leader tag can tap the guides is on the reel back in at a reel speed verses a casting speed.
Thanks guys for sending me this link to the video 🙌 🙌 Legends
Thanks Katie! Happy to help!
This is FriedGreen btw on Insta 😃😁

True! With all the steps it’s easy to slack on one of them which can cause the whole thing to fail
I've been looking for a video like this that will give me a better idea of an FG knot thanks bro!
Thanks for the H2C Tips Bro Beans 😎💪🏼
You’re welcome! HB jerker!
Thanks!! First time fishing
Nice man, I’m digging these tutorials! Tight lines indeed!
Thanks for the continued support brother! Give this a shot but take your time if you haven’t yet. It’s gamechanger
Educational bro. Thanks. Keep it up. BOTO FISHING CREW
Good stuff brotha!!!
Thanks a lot!
Great explanation brotha...well
Done
Thanks Mike!!! BOINNNNG
Cool video. Keep them coming
Cool video bro.. have to try this one.. i usually do double uni knot..
It’s strong bro. It’s worth the extra time too!
Thanks Ed !

nice video, just wondering why u r using the fg for perch, seems like a lotta work
You got a maximize bro. Do everything you can to make a good presentation for the fish.
We also do a lot of other things to prepare for a fishing trip. What’s another five minutes to tie the fg?
U should make a video how to catch fish during Coronavirus lockdown 😳😷& where to catch...
What knot do you tie to the clips? And do you prefer 50 or 25 pound clips? Awesome video! Stay safe.
50 lb clips tied with a simple uni knot with 5 twists

Bg 4000 is a bit big. Something 2500 or 3000 would work better

What technique specifically or what are you throwing when this happens? Plugs shouldn’t introduce line twist because they have a bill
add a small swivel to your tac, helps negate line twist with spinning gear👍🏼
Wow !
How fast can you tie it normally?
Probably 5 minutes... you want to take your time for this knot! It’s a good one for top shot too!
Do you prefer the FG over the Alberto knot?
Almost never use the Alberto now. Doubling up 20#+ line gets bulky and could knock out ceramic rod guides.. 🤢
I use this knot to tie my shoes.
Good morning Bro🤜🏽

No perch no toilet paper 😜 jk at least you had bonding time we Dad🙏🏽
Serious question: why not an RP knot? It's easier to tie, seemingly lower profile, and proven and recommended on sport boats.
Your videos are dope man, just a serious question.
