At only 75 health, to pair with many big-bads having sweeping attacks, if they get off their cycle even once they are gone and wasted. Better just to use the fuel for shadow armor or dark swords, or just more gathering capabilities. To each their own though.
Could you imagine how godlike it’d be if Maxwell DST was an exact replica of singleplayer Maxwell? Lmao, the sanity gain of 20/min plus shadow puppets only costing 15 HP and the max sanity (day 1 trail mix best regen food lmao) and doing any of the jobs you’re doing at the time, and starting off the game with a night sword, night armor, some nightmare fuel, and a purple gem
The Beard 777 honestly I see so many people trash on singleplayer Maxwell when I’m like “he starts with the second best armor and the best weapon in the game, and has a sanity regen so high he can wear night armor at night with 100% wetness and still be GAINING sanity, with his only downside being frailness which is negated by night armor and if you have enough basic knowledge of the game to kite stuff
I haved tried both DS and DST version, and I would say that DST version is ,in fact, better. While having +20 sanity per min seems really good on paper, but it makes sanity managing a whole lot harder. Staying insane is a pain in the ass. I have to wear dark sword and armor and eat green mushrrom, yet killing one nightmare creature and I am sane again. Also, the fact that the shadow minions only last for 2.5 days doesn't make me want to even summon them because they are not really great at gathering resources or fighting. However, his DS version still has something that I like: He can summon up to three fighters, and summoning them cost HP instead of tools. His minions are universal. (In my opinion, HP regening is much easier.) With that being said, I think Klei has planned to have every characters refreshed this year, so I hope that after the refresh(if he ever gets one), Max would be even better than both DS and DST version.
@@POOH_LY DST Max is amazing at gathering. DS Max is good at everything. As for Nightmare fuel farming in DS, the ruins are your go to place to do it. You dont need to be insane for more than several dozen nightmare creatures to start following you around before disintegrating into several stacks of nightmare fuel with you just needing to run them around until the nightmare phase ends. The ruins I farm drop 2-3 stacks of nightmare fuel per phase and i didnt even get a good ruins spawn.
The only issue I have with DS Maxwell is that his puppets don't work automatically. Although as a duelists they are far superior to those we have in DST, and starting off with night armor and dark sword is insanely powerful, I still don't like that he has to actually mine or chop stuff instead of just watching his clones do that for him
I can only see Maxwells puppets usefull vs single target enemys like treeguard or even dragonfly. Because, if you are in that battle with your puppets, the bosses will mostly target you then the puppets

I only recently learned about Maxwell reading Wicker's books--I'm super pumped to use Wicker's books to farm reeds more efficiently now for Night Armour! And bring on the tentacles!

Technically the monsters wouldn’t attack maxwell except the ones he called failed (the birds) so he would really just be a sandbox character or something because he is king of them

I wonder about the lore implications of Maxwell being Wendy's uncle. It's my theory that Maxwell lures people to the constant to create insanity, AKA nightmare fuel. When he builds up enough, it could hopefully destroy the constant and end the mess that the ancients started. I'll have to look into wendy's lore some and see if Maxwell did indeed lure her as well, and if he regretted it. It would help answer some questions.

Shadow Duelists aren't bad. Your supposed to assist them in the fight and either take the aggro against a single boss monster, or use your duelists as meat shields against swarms of enemies while you pick them off one by one before they reach them. I took out a medium sized Beefalo herd with their help, and that was in Regular Don't Starve, where the duelists don't have their natural regen and don't even try to kite. Other then that, good video!
actual lumpy saplings actually do appear also, I had 3 saplings spawn next to me ingame and onscreen, no stumps turned into saplings in the process but that's definitely an interesting one!

Hello! really enjoying this guide! As a new player player here and trying to be a resource main with Maxwell, My toughest challenge is nightmare fuel. are my only ways are to: farm monster rabbits, kite monsters, and make them using dark petals?
not really, Wilson is the mc for single player DS cuz he's cannon for the throne, on DST there's no correct MC because they are all trapped together. When Charlie free's wilson and take the throne, wilson and maxwell work >together< to build the Jury-rigged portal, and charlie transformed it on the florid postern later.
You can wear armor though and hold out for much longer, they can't. Although seeing as we can give helmets to some mobs, it would be cool to have a shadow helmet to match the suit and sword (why isn't there one?!) and be able to give it to the duelists.
I really hope none of that story was spoiler material, cause I still haven’t finished the base game if don’t starve and am still working on it right now.
There are plenty of ways to farm nightmare fuel, you just have to be creative. The ruins are an easy mid-late game choice, during the nightmare cycle, shadow creatures spawn and aggro regardless of sanity. Besides this, you could craft 2 Duelists + 1 other shadow guy, which leaves you at 20% sanity (AKA: always insane). Even simpler, you can collect Green Mushrooms. Just 4 uncooked Green Caps bring Maxwell to 0 sanity (even fewer are needed if you happen to have one or more Shadow Puppets out). When you defeat a shadow creature (especially a Terrorbeak), you will eventually need to eat another Green Cap to get back to insanity. Repeat for as long as you'd like (the best part is that you can cook the green caps if you need to go sane quickly, like if a seasonable boss shows up at an inopportune time). I like to gather some Blue Mushrooms before I farm this way as well, because they are great healing *and* will help keep you insane :)
There are no final bosses In DS. But in DST how ever you can call the ancient fuelweaver the final althought the game doesn't end. You can kill him every 21 days

actual lumpy saplings actually do appear also, I had 3 saplings spawn next to me ingame and onscreen, no stumps turned into saplings in the process but that's definitely an interesting one!

not really, Wilson is the mc for single player DS cuz he's cannon for the throne, on DST there's no correct MC because they are all trapped together. When Charlie free's wilson and take the throne, wilson and maxwell work >together< to build the Jury-rigged portal, and charlie transformed it on the florid postern later.

You can wear armor though and hold out for much longer, they can't. Although seeing as we can give helmets to some mobs, it would be cool to have a shadow helmet to match the suit and sword (why isn't there one?!) and be able to give it to the duelists.

i think other things might drop nightmare fuel? im not sure, i could swear i got nightmare fuel from a birchwood treeguard once
You get some from hammering pig heads on poles during a full moon, regardless of your own sanity level :)

There are plenty of ways to farm nightmare fuel, you just have to be creative. The ruins are an easy mid-late game choice, during the nightmare cycle, shadow creatures spawn and aggro regardless of sanity. Besides this, you could craft 2 Duelists + 1 other shadow guy, which leaves you at 20% sanity (AKA: always insane).
Even simpler, you can collect Green Mushrooms. Just 4 uncooked Green Caps bring Maxwell to 0 sanity (even fewer are needed if you happen to have one or more Shadow Puppets out). When you defeat a shadow creature (especially a Terrorbeak), you will eventually need to eat another Green Cap to get back to insanity. Repeat for as long as you'd like (the best part is that you can cook the green caps if you need to go sane quickly, like if a seasonable boss shows up at an inopportune time). I like to gather some Blue Mushrooms before I farm this way as well, because they are great healing *and* will help keep you insane :)

There are no final bosses In DS. But in DST how ever you can call the ancient fuelweaver the final althought the game doesn't end. You can kill him every 21 days
